Number of worlds in DDO:U?

Just a quick question for anyone who may know:

How many 'worlds' (as in realms) will be available when DDO:U goes live? Will it be just the existing worlds, or will they add new ones?

I've looked and can't find this info anywhere.

Any help is much appreciated.

 Just the existing worlds for now, but they said if it's a big hit they will add more.

Yeah, they've already bought new hardware for that. They pretty much freaked out when number of people wanting to join beta surpassed their expectations... That was pretty much the cause of 1-month delay, according to what I've read.

But there's another thing to that. Each server has much higher capacity right now. You can have 5 instances of one zone and no lag. So even without dispatching new servers, each of them will be able to hold much more players than ever.

TBH I like it if they kicked off with at least one new server at relaunch. It sounds silly but as someone just joining the game, its a bit of a downer having to come up with names like 'Asdilutyjhc Kfseyass' coz all the normal sounding ones have been taken already.

I'm playing in the Beta right now and even on Lammania, which I assume is a test world, it's impossible to call you character something ordinary as all the normal names have gone.

Not a major issue by a long way, but I can see some RP-types getting a bit perturbed.

BTW, I'm absolutely loving the Beta - this game is REALLY good (caps makes it troo!).

Agree! Most good names were taken in past 3 years. Give us more servers! And I'd like to have ability to migrate to different server. Would like to see 2 things there - one to "lessen the load" - like in WAR or something, free character transfer, and paid services.

I still dont get it, is DDO free? I signed up yesterday but says its closed beta and I havnt got a key either..

And also, can europeans play on NA server?

I play on US servers now. There will be a relaunch of new version of D&D Online on 09.09.2009 (what a date - reversed 6.6.6.). So, 9th of next month it will launch and be open free to play to public.

Of course not everything is free, but LOTS of it. And you can earn to buy something while getting favor (similar to faction in WoW), instead of paying - if you play much, that's your way.

Now it's beta, which will close tomorrow, 17th of August. 9th of September game is open again, all servers are live, as beta finally ends tomorrow.

I'm actually looking forward to this.  I thought this game should have been F2P from the beginning.  Not because it was a bad game...just not really ideal for a $15 a month game.  Perfect game for F2P though...cause you can log in once a month to play with friends and not feel guilty and feel like you're wasting money because you don't play constantly.

Yes no platfarmers, no names taken (if you get in early) no spoiled economy, no overtwinked toons (if one dosen´t like that).

But count on that the veterans will go to t he new server to reserve names thou.

But there really is not enough of them to steal all the good names.

Of course they will. It is afterall a gift of sorts to all the patient subscribers. Not to mention that its exclusively only available to subscribers, even though the free beat tersters get to partake in the headstart also.

No, new server Cannith is intended for new and free players : ). Beta testers who never had any subscriptions will get a headstart there too.

People from old servers won't be able to transfer their characters on Cannith even if they wanted to pay for it : ). That's why we can't say it's a server "for subscribers", but rather opposite.
