Aion.....No Thanks

After all the promises and Hype about no monthly fees I see that greed has prevailed and a monthly fee will apply.

I dont mind paying for the game as I did gladly for Guild Wars but I wont be buying  Aion now.

I wonder how mant others feel this way.

Yeah wow, what good game isn't P2P?  And don't say Guild Wars.  You get what you pay for with any game including that one.  I just tried picking up Guild Wars last night for about an hour and couldn't stand it.  Don't get me wrong, Guild Wars was ahead of it's time when it came out, but it has gone so downhill, or rather it hasn't ever gone uphill.

That is why I've decided to go with Aion.  Only problem is, I can't seem to purchase it at this time.  Fricken purchase system is seeing me living overseas, but using an American Credit Card.  Really lame.

How sad. Why do people have to create a new account just to post a message like this?

Why don't they go do something more productive and useful like pick their noses? Oh wait, they probably can't find it.

it seems that we are having several recent "one post" users who are signing in to essentially state bizzare or negative things that really have no basis in reality.

Well it's better than them spamming the main forums with some half-assed f2p game, or gold spamming.

Aion is different than Guild Wars? Wow, you surprised me!

Wow really?  Man you should read your own quote.  "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people."  Because no where in my post did I make the broad generalization statement of "Aion is different than Guild Wars."  And it's "Different From"  not "Different Than" you loser.

    EDIT:

And I would just like to post this link here to promote the irony of your post Comnitus.  If you, Mr. Elite come on here thinking that you're all big and bad, suggesting that I'm the stupid one, here's an article I think you'll enjoy.  10 flagrant grammar mistakes that make you look stupid

You fail pathethically at your trolling sir, this is not Guild Wars 2.

    Try harder next time.

actually... i hate to feed the troll but the overview page says "montly fee: n/a" i also went on the aion site and there's no word of a monthly fee. i then googled it and found a forum of people wondering if it was p2p. it seems like the developers haven't said for sure. i would assume it's p2p, but i'm not seeing it anywhere. anyone have a source either way?

If you click "buy now" then "more info" you get this

    https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/Store.pl?dnv=6532251419&action=viewItem&item_id=137

Really, its not that difficult to find out.

It's kind of obvious it's P2P. Why would we, the NA/EU market, get to play for free when the Asian market has been paying for it? Plus, do you see a cash shop button or store anywhere in game? I'm kind of shocked people have to even ask this. It's almost like one of those, "Here's your sign" moments. Bleh ...

This genre no longer offers anything that other genres cannot offer besides persistent server rental. If you want to pay 15$ to rent their servers for them, then go ahead. MMORPG players have come to expect to pay monthly fees. And nowadays they are getting ripped off as the quality of play gets worse and worse (in my opinion). If they tried to get players to pay monthly subscriptions for multiplayer FPS or RTS games, they would be laughed at. Again, MMOs no longer offer anything more than these other free-to-play genres. There's no longer any need for the subscription fees.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

They are in business and need to make money one way or the other to pay the bills. Name your poison, FTP with a cashshop or PTP. Someone is paying for these games one way or the other and from what little ive seen of FTP i would pay more than the $15 a month to the cash shop. What i see coming that i dont like is cash shops on top of a monthy fee.

Persistence requires an environment to exist in. That environment is not free. Somehow it's getting paid for, whether it be through cash item shops, monthly fees, expansion sales, all of the above, etc...

I'll gladly pay 15 dollars per month to avoid the cash shop (I know, they're starting to add these WITH the monthly fee which I hate) or F2P atmosphere. If I get that atmosphere anyway, i simply don;t pay the monthly fee anymore. It's fairly simple.

FPS games don't have the monthly fee, but they don't have the persistence or extensive database maintenance either.

How come all these other genres who do frequent patch and content updates do not require a monthly fee and are still in business?
