I have played it 2 evenings on a friend's comp. Its nice, but... I dont see it being a hit. *shrug* Seemed a bit boring pew pew to me. I will wait what the reviews say and stuff after the game runs a few months. Someone told me it was very buggy atm, so better wait maybe.
Personally I prefer classes. All this tinkering with skills sounds quite complicated. I actually prefer to be "iconic". =P

You don't necessary have everything, but long story short, everyone can change their build, Defense, Offence, Balance and Support. So your not looking for a tank, healer or dps, you are looking for people to group and after you choose who do what. See it like WoW dual spec ex: Priest can be healer or dps, but in Champions Online you have quad spec.

With no villians but having PvP out at launch does help my decision. Learn the game play pvp and when they are ready to pull out a villians part of Champions maybe they wont be like CoX and screw up the pvp. More features then CoH and more to come . alot of things i was waiting for on COH and champions is releasing all of it on launch. MT is ok with me cause it was stated that everything yo uget in MT you can get it in game. ( or most things) and was stated that MT wont make other people strong just cause they paid for something else. Monday is gonna be a good day ... headset on people ignored, Play Champions. OP this was a nice post
Àvailable in game doesn`t tell you how difficult or time-consuming it will be to achieve. Perhaps it will require grinding for months to earn the item. If they are offering it for real money, no way it will be a simple matter of beating a single boss or completing a single solo quest.
this.....
has got to be one of the worst responses to a post ive ever read. the point of making things hard to get is all part of business and keeping you in the game playing and not having everything there is to get within a week of playing. i cant believe a game developer would actually make you "play" a game to get things in the game. what the hell are they thinking? Are they stupid? why not just give you everything right when you log in. that way you can quit your bitching. what has this genre of players come to? everything i read has something to do with, "i want it now" or "i dont want to have to work to get anything in game" mentality. if you dont want to put any time or effort into anything, then dont play the game or any game for that matter.

1) Microtransactions enable us to have a larger development team
2) Microtransactions are mostly aesthetic (costume pieces, pets, etc.)
3) If a microtransaction does have any sort of in game effect, then it can be also be earned in game.
so basicly its like CoX Booster packs
and with the booster packs i dont like is that the whole science pack you cant get the changing of the size of your toon unless you pay the MT for the booster pack .
making your toon from male to huge or female.
but number 3 says anything in game that is MT will be earned in game
costume pieces are ok for MT . In CoX you have to buy costume pieces on WW/BM or booster packs or grind to earn them
i found out that not every costume piece i want so paying alittle money if the game is good on top of my Monthly fee is ok
MT isnt hurting my game play so im not worried.
Now that link was posted a month ago . If they do go outside of those 3 areas then i would be mighty piss and will go back to CoX.
Huh? The NDA is dropped, there was a review in a thread 3 days ago and one of the mods said there that the NDA was dropped???? Are you sure it is still up, this sounds weird.
That thread was removed.

Before the trolls march in, I will say that I am excited too.. But boy oh boy are you in for the fight of your life once the Aion fans catch wind of this thread...lol
Believe it or not, but I'm a fanboy of Aion and I plan on playing both Champions Online and Aion. Though Aion will probably be my main game considering all of my friends are playing it.
Okay i have done some research on both games (Aion and Champions Online). From two sources of untold origin that played both betas in both games and now i have gotten a list of pro's and cons!!
Aion
-Graphical Beauty and very nice details
-Typical class system no need to go in detail here
-Very time consuming game in more ways than one
-Not very fun if u play alone (PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS)
-Bleh Air combat FAIL cool idea but they didnt go far with it
-PVP is pretty fun but like WoW (not really fast paced) but its cool
-Dont get mad at this wow comparison but since it has such a high pop and practically everybody played it at some point it has to be said cause i mean come on its the posterchild for mmo's today so in a nutshell If you enjoyed everything WoW had to offer this is the same package but with more added to it (wings, awesome detail and gfx, and actual fun pvp) oh and as you progress into the lategame lets just say the difficulty skyrockets and things get tough and it becomes not just knockin down monsters but takin on everything which is exciting!
Champions Online
-Very fun Character Creation
-Quests are difficult cause theres so many people at a certain point
-No classes makes it difficult to tell what your about to fight against which is kinda awesome xD
-There are some lag issues but they say they will be gone by release
-Your character is like 1/10000 but you rarely may come across somebody similar to yours but there is always something different
-PVP is very fast paced and is Chaotic! so much happening at once just go in gunz-a-blazin and scream till you die xD but sometimes you can open a can of whoop*** and beast on the opposing team lolz makes you feel pretty good but the pvp is kinda basic with nothing special about it except not knowing what the team could be made of and just hoping you dont get smashed
-If your pc isnt any good and only meats min req for the game ... the lag spikes could crash you ( rarely) like once or twice in the same day but like i said they are workin on it (prime thing they are fixing as of now)
-the whole villian thing is cool but yea everybody would like to actually play as one but meh theres arena stuff u can do and test your hero to its limits
Okay i'd like everybody who actually has experience in the two games to actually be the ones to stand up for them because right now ... weighing the two games id say champions is more fun (as of right now) and Aion seems okay but im still unsure which i will actually play longterm. I'll leave saying this Champions (ill rate a 9.7/10) is made for any player lookin for fun Aion (ill rate 9.4/10) is for the serious player that enjoys really meaningful progress and difficult challenges so both games have great potential and just depends what you would enjoy more in a game fun or somewhat fun but timeconsuming progress.

But it's NOT hard to get those items - IF YOU PAY THEM MORE MONEY.
Pay attention.
it really depends on the stuff
i have read somewhere (cant remember where) that it wouldnt be for armor or items to make you better then the next person. Item wise. but not sure on this as no one is out side of cryptic
the whole point of donjuanamigo comment is that you have to work for your stuff if you dont want to use the MT
and i agree with this ... if you grind /work hard for your toon to get the same stuff as MT then you have the possible chance that you can get other things
if you buy it out right cause you want to continue to a alt toon then by all means do it
Your statement makes me believe that you should be handed everything to you cause you pay the 15/mth but ihave never heard of a MMO company/developer giving you stuff cause your paying 15/mth
and if they do then it is to keep you there for your 15/mth. ex. Expansions, patches and such
For items in the game never heard of a MMO giving it to you cause your logging in everyday
so Pay attention to the real world go play your cheat coded games and stay away from MMO clearly you want to get far in a game that you can powerlevel or cheat on with out doing some real work by yourself
I played Aion and pre-ordered Champions(played beta as well). Aion is like one of those movies that has this AMAZING preview, but when you experience the movie, you realize that they only showed you the cool parts, which were not really a part of the gaming experience, as they were just props in the game.
Champions, on the other hand, if you look at the OP's checklist, uses all that as a part of the game. It's all important to the gameplay experience. Can't say much more because of NDA, but wait til Monday, where I'm sure you'll hear some of the good and definately all the bad....
I DEFINATELY feel as though Champions has not gotten enough coverage or attention for it's unique approach to it's creation, without going too far overboard. I think anyone that loves superheroes or control of almost all customization of your toon will definately find Champions to be refreshing, fun and exciting.
Ok, why don't we put an end to all the fear-mongering here. The number one complaint that I hear is about the MTs and how Cryptic will eventually offer the best, most powerful stuff to players for money instead of having to earn it in game. The problem with these complaints though is that they are based on a fear of the worst case scenario and not on the intentions of Cryptic as they have explained the system.
I can tell that the majority of people complaining about MTs have not read the interview on Ten Ton Hammer found here: http://tentonhammer.com/node/71536
Right from the mouth of Bill Roper:
"The idea is wanting to be able to have things there that players can get if they want to, but they don’t negatively impact the balance of the game. It’s not like we’re expecting players to go and purchase things through micro-transactions that then give them some huge leg up. All those things I think people get worried about, but really the focus is on having things that are fun, cosmetic or are things that are more account-wide and maintenance based. "
And if that doesn't make it clear enough for you how about this:
"So for us, the things we’re looking at with micro-transactions are more along the lines of being fun for players to have that aren’t going to be doing anything to disrupt or upset the balance of the game, or give someone who decides to use micro-transactions any kind of leg up on anybody else. "
And if you still want to freak out about how they will offer things that affect the overall game experience, read this:
Ten Ton Hammer: It seems like a main concern centers on the notion that MTs can potentially negate the efforts of tackling high-end content, or that you might be removing certain ‘carrots’ in the game.
Bill Roper: Absolutely not. The thing is there will be a lot of things we’ll never micro-transact. And one of the things we put out there – less because it’s planned, and more because it’s making sure people understood it – was the fact that if we were to ever put anything out that did have a game effect, there would be a way to earn it. I think that’s really important.
If there was some item that had an effect in-game that would give you - I’m going to make something up, so this is not an item in-game or anything – so something that gave you maybe an increased energy regeneration rate or something along those lines, there would be a way for you to get that in the game. I think that the biggest thing though, with the items that people are going to get though micro-transactions there will be some things where maybe that will be the only way you can get them yet none of them are things where you might say, “man, I can’t believe I didn’t get that” whereas there’s tons and tons and tons and tons more things that you can only get by playing the game.
Notice in Ropers first paragraph that there is an emphasis on "if" they ever put anything into the game that effects the gameplay. IF not when but IF, so its not even decided whether or not they'll go that path. Furthermore, IF they do put something in the game that effects gameplay, there would not be one, but many other options in-game to get the same boost. Which suggests to me that it shouldn't be too hard to get an equal item via gameplay.
All of this is just from page one of a two page interview. Seriously people, go read the damn article if you're still flipping out about the MTs. Don't go making claims that suggest they have some evil plot in place to ruin their own game and allow people to pay to have the best toons on the server, it juts isn't going to happen. The only facts that we have to go on are the ones from Cryptic and they are saying that its going to be non-intrusive to gameplay. At this point we have to take them on their word. Anybody who contradicts Roper's statements are simply afraid of the system because they don't understand the business model that Cryptic has set in place for MTs... Again, go read the article.
Lol, i love how every thread in here turns into a MT debate...this has been debunked multiple time; first in gold selling and leveling services ( these things give players an upper hand by spending real life money, even tho illegal its in most/all mainstream MMO's), second with the WoW player cards...this is a real dagger, third is that argument against MT is fear based not factual, Fourth the MT will help fund thier development team which can end up in more/better content in the future,Fifth xbox live and the guitar hero/rock band games is the epitome of MT so its not like CO is the first to use a monthly fee/MT.
In the end its your decision, if the game turns out great but you dont wanna play it because you need to pay 1 cryptic buck for pink butterfly wings then thats your right, but coming into forums making false claims about what could be is a form of trolling because it seems to be an effort to scare people away from the game who might actually enjoy it and see no effect in the MT on thier overal gaming expierence.
CO is something the MMO industry needs, and iam supporting it based on that. They are doing things most MMO's are afraid of. For all of you who cry all MMO's are the same, should take a look at CO. The only other complaint i hear is that is is hero based , not sci-fi or fantasy...this is debunked in the fact that iam sure you can make an elf in this game, iam sure you can make robot characters, wolves, lizards...The reason why iam so interested in CO is its seems to be a perfect mix of sandbox/theme park that almost everyone can find some enjoyment in the game.

To the shills and fanboys defending the cash shop:
I don't care what Roper or anyone else says. He's selling a product. Like any other salesman, he will say what it takes to convince you to spend your money. Once you have been playing for a year and the game-effect items come in, remember I told you so.

Haha. With a name like MMO_Doubter I'm beginning to suspect that it is your job to travel throughout the universe spreading fear and doubt about any and all MMOs.
You know, I'm not saying it'll never happen. I've seen more shocking things happen in my time in MMOs than a game company changing its price model over time. However, I think it is a VERY bad argument to suggest that a game is crap because some time down the road they MAY choose to change their policies on MTs. I'm not saying this is your stance specifically, but I have heard the argument before.
But I think there are a few solid reasons that this will NEVER happen. Would anybody here actually WANT to play a game where all of the best loot can be purchased for real world dollars? Where you couldn't be a top contender or participate in the end game raids unless you paid for MT gear? And all on top of a monthly fee? I know that the majority of people would NOT want to play in this kind of game. There would be a mass exodus of people leaving the game and I think it would lead to the fall of the game itself. Pulling the old switcheroo on us would be an exceedingly bad business model.
I have to ask though, do you play WoW or CoX? Because they both have a similar model, albeit with a different interface and they call it something different, its still a similar model. Do you have the same problem with those games?
And call me a fanboy if you will, I'll still call you a fear monger. At least I have the word of the developers on my side, you just have speculation. It's been my experience that generally business models don't change drastically over time and that developers do indeed listen to their customers and would not intentionally sabotage their own game.
But again, maybe a year from now it'll turn out that you're right, that they will change things and implement the system that everybody fears so much. But I'm not going to let that small possibility prevent me from having a years worth of enjoyment playing a very fun game. Fear of the future is no reason to pass on a fun opportunity today.

I liked playing this game so much that I actually took a *cough* sick day *cough* to play an extra day in the BETA. The thought that I like it so much in a less than perfect state (which is what a Beta test is) just makes me giggle with excitement considering retail is just weeks away.
And as for MT. Meh, so what. However they do it won't affect the fun I'm having, or will have.
I don't need any non-gameplay affecting perk so much that I'd feel miserable if I didn't buy it. If it was some really snazzy costume piece that I REALLY liked then sure, I'd consider spending a little extra cash on it. Hell, I've been known to spend $50 in a night hitting bars and stuff. And the only lasting effects of that is a beer gut. I'd say $3 or whatever for a cool costume piece that I have available to me forever is no concern.
And if they happened to eventually start selling gameplay affecting items. So what? I'm not competing to be the best person in the game. I don't give a rats behind if someone does 20 more damage than me. And again, if I REALLY did want that super duper Orgazmo Gun Mark 2000 I suppose I could give up buying a beer or a McSandwhich this week. Big whoopty ding fart.
What it boils down to is envy. Some people just can't stand the thought that someone else has something they don't have. It matters more to them that nobody has anything better than them than it does to whether or not they're simply having fun playing a game. Those people must not live in the same world as I do. Because I'm surrounded by humans that own nicer cars than I do (although mines fairly nice and I pay way too much a month for it), have nicer homes than I do (crap, who cares? I eat, sleep, <bleep> and play video games here. Who cares if it has way more rooms than I have any use for?), or fancier clothes than me (So what? Those fancy threads will be out of style eventually and end up in the landfill someday anyhow.)
It's a game. You play them to have fun. If you can't have fun playing a game because you perceive someone is better than you or has more money than you then I feel sorry for you.

I agree with nearly everything you say.
Both are very fun MMOs, but the fun is delivered differently in time consumed. Champions will be fun right off the bat. Aion maybe not as fun (But don't get me wrong, it will still be great). Aion is more like Lineage 2 was. You had to really put effort and time into your character. It will be rough and tiresome along the way, but worth it in the end. With Champions you are awesome all the time. But your awesomeness won't feel as rewarding 30 levels later.
Two different games to fit different gamestyles. I'll be playing both for sure.
And btw, I have played both betas.

Well it's a superhero game. It's going to have action, sorry. There are plenty of less exciting MMOs out there already, most of them fantasy based.
As for classes, you can have preset builds; you don't have to customize your powers. If you want to be a pure ranged damage dealer, then pick only lightning (or whatever powerset you want). If you want to be pure melee DPS, only blade skills, etc.
But the option is there for those who want it.

Huh? The NDA is dropped, there was a review in a thread 3 days ago and one of the mods said there that the NDA was dropped????
Are you sure it is still up, this sounds weird.

One sticky on this board, go read it.
Àvailable in game doesn`t tell you how difficult or time-consuming it will be to achieve. Perhaps it will require grinding for months to earn the item. If they are offering it for real money, no way it will be a simple matter of beating a single boss or completing a single solo quest.
this.....

Thanks donjuanamigo for saying this .
MMO_Doubter why do you play MMOs?
it was stated on the Champions forums http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=23349

Believe it or not, but I'm a fanboy of Aion and I plan on playing both Champions Online and Aion. Though Aion will probably be my main game considering all of my friends are playing it.
I personally love both games.

Loving both champions and aion and will be playing both for the next year till ToR finally releases.
But if you fear in game shops then get a job, i earn lots and like spending lots so its not a problem for me.

Interesting Fact - I own 27 Tarantula's
Just saying this: If the open Beta doesn't let you see everything which was in closed Beta and the NDA doesn't drop - WATCH OUT.
Open beta is the full game. From 1-40.
