Reasons for quitting WoW

havok527havok527 Member Posts: 80

I've been playing WoW on and off since its release in 2004, but I have not played for three months, and I probably won't be coming back because I am currently in college and this game took up too much of my time. For people who have quit, what reasons do you have for doing so?

when I played, I loved it, I had a 70 Draenei Shaman and pvp most of the time, I was never invited to any raids which eventually got me frustrated because I was tired of all of the pvp and wanted to experience some pve...thats what ultimately led me to quit wow, but yeah I know that they made new patches to allow quick groups to go on raids but from what I have heard about that, that makes it even worse because its not even organized and people often leave the group before completing the full raid which takes forever to do...

so the main reason is, too much pvp and hard to get involved with organized groups for raids...

It became a gigantic, gated, gear grind. The same instances over and over and over. PvP wasn't much better. Most of my friends had either moved on to other games or other guilds. Plus LotRO had just come out, so I had another game that interested me.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

Basically just tired of the same treadmill, it's stale.

    Got tired of it.

Created 5 level 60's, played on both sides, raided up through EQ 40, and when TBC was announced I saw the future, more levels, more quests, more boring PVP combat (I loath arenas and BG's with a passion)

    So I left.

But I had a good time the 18 months or so that I played, have to admit that.

Hmmm, quitters (or rather people who leave the game) ae not bashed for it, everyone pays for their playing time and if they are not enjoying it then they have every right to stop playing it. What does piss people off (ok, pisses me off) is the section of people that happily play the game for years, but then get a sudden urge on leaving the game to come here and explain to everyone else how bad the game is and why they should leave the game as well??? Why???

I still like tha game after all these years, but if at any point it got stale for me i would have no issues with clicking on thet 'cancel' button and getting on with something else, probably another stint in EvE :)

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

    To OP:

That's one very long discussion that was discussed excessively in the past. I don't think I want to repeat myself, nor does it really matter.

What matters is what Blizzard is doing to rekindle my interest for the game. Hopefully the next expansion will introduce solutions to some of the issues that drove me away from the game.

No. The fanbois dont bash the people leaving for quitting, they bash us for not thinking that every little thing Blizzard do is amazing and perfect. Try reading some of Zorndorf's posts sometimes.

And this is an independent WoW forum. People leaving the game after 4 years have as much right to post here as someone who thinks patch 3.2 is the greatest thing since the wheel and want to have have Ghostcrawler's babies.

I'm going to respond to your OP only since I don't give a rats ass what others say in this thread.

I quit because WoW is nothing but a soulless gear grind.

You have two options in WoW You can run raids forever or Instance pvp forever for items.

Not much of a choice tbh.

The items you grind thousands of raids and pvp mini games for get replaced by expansions and new armor updates constantly.

Basically giving you a less than satisfactory feeling of achievement.

WoW's crafting is a waste of time tbh and all that's left is rolling alt after alt.

I just got tired of it. All the money Blizzard makes and they release content on the average of your run of the mill 150k sub P2p MMO.

After trying other MMOs I've found that WoW really wasn;t anything special and that I wasted years playing a game when I could of supported a better MMO development house.

Do you really want to go back to running instances everytime your on for purple items just so they could be replaced within months? WoW is just the same content over and over again. Look at the latest patch they gave players a one room dungeon thats basically a loot pinata and the playerbase being so addicted is eating it up lol.

    Don't waste your time seriously

    rune of magic was good

and when i saw they were upgrading the quality of the game

i just left wow and took off from gaming for summer till book 2 is released (september)

i tried aion, sorry but rom is just better since it doesnt cost anything to get it .

some will say they dont like it aion seems better

good for them for me it will be rom for a good while

next fix will be either wow cataclysm or diablo 3

wich are very far from release lol

I quit WoW 5 months ago because I, like many others, felt that the game was repetitive and I thought that if I waited a few months a lot of things in the game would change. I had a level 70 character when I quit and I am now considering coming back. With the WOTLK expansion out and various patches after that I will have a plethora of content if I choose to return. The thing I loved about WoW is that even if I only devoted a small amount of time it was still enjoyable and I could still slowly progress my character.

Overall, I think "quitting" is not necessary, but instead taking a few months "break" is more sensible. Stop playing for a few months and then come back and you will be pleasantly surprised about how refreshing the content is once again. =)

So you would want to skip the huge final raids against Arthas for a badly animated free to play and soulless money maker "RoM".

I guess not. You'll be in for that giant content patch 3.3 against Arthas, no doubt and to be prepared you better do the upgrades in 3.2.

    :))))

It's almost like  it's illegal to dislike WoW.

    :))))

I had played since beta. That's a long time for one game. It was a good run and I had good times with it. However, the game has run its course with me. I was just tired and bored of the game. I haven't touched the game since January. What also help me make my decision for quiting was also that almost all of my longtime wow friends had quit, so there was no real attachment left for me.

I'm not a big fan of the game or anything. I've just always wondered what it would feel like to have hellspawn in my belly.

I quit cause I got burnt out on the game. Not to say I didn't enjoyed my time in it, cause I did. WoW is one of the best, most immersive mmo's out there at the moment. No other game can compare, or even get close to the polish and work put into WoW. The numbers speak their tale as always. It's just not for me anymore.

Enjoying my time in Warhammer pvp'ing now, however long that will last. My guess is a few months maybe...

My son in law and two of  my grandsons told me i just had to try it  Having played many console and PC single player games but never playing an MMO i thought it would be fun to play with my grandsons so away i went. Played for around two years or so then LOTRO was released and being a Tolkien fan for many years i moved to it and EQ2. And like a previous poster said, i realized WOW was nothing special and in fact lacking in immersion for me.

I quit, because every time I would bust my ass to get a set, a new one came out.  I don't mind getting new gear, but they push new gear out quickly.  Another reason was, they didn't put out new PvP content consistently enough.  Sure it got a little bit better after TBC, but not much.  IMO for each PvE update there should be a PvP update to go with it.

luckily won all rolls on gear in 7 months, got burned out of doing dailies and waiting for raids

Of course anyone has the right to post here, even someone who has never played the game has the right to post about any subject here, but you have to admit that it gives you a weaker platform if you are talking from second or third hand experience. Someone who quit pre BC talking about how the changes in Lich King have affected the gameplay is on pretty shaky ground to start with don't you think???

Zorn is Zorn and can be a little over zealous in defending the game he likes, but as you have already pointed out yourself he has every right to do so and at least he does take the time to research an answer or speaks from direct experience when doing so.

It is strange when people who play a game for four years suddenly come to the conclusion that it somehow is the worst thing in the world.  It really doesn't take 4 years to figure something like this out.

I can respect people who say they got bored, don't like the direction blizzard is taking the game or just never got into it in the first place.  Some of the hyperbole that goes on is just as much over the top as zondorf can get sometimes.

I really think people get bored of wow and when they move on realize how bad the rest of the market is in comparison.  That is why it is so commonplace for people to keep coming back time and time again even when they are bored to death with the game.

For all the talk people do about how wow is the worst at this or that, you almost never hear anyone back up those claims with a game that is better.  To tell the truth I can somewhat relate to the frustration, because I would love that "new game" feeling again from something fun to play again, but it just isn't our there right now for me and I suspect others here as well.

Why do you think it's strange? It's happening with married couples all the time.
