And the game is still not patched, thats the cutoff time Cryptic, no excuse so bye bye. Totally unprofessionall and uncalled for. I will stick to Guild Wars GW2 and WOW (and blizz other mmo). These companies know how to run the show you on the other hand need a helping hand. I advise you to go down to blizz headquarters and take a lesson or two.

Sounds like someone doesn't remember what WoW was like during it's first launches/patch days. Server queues anyone? Erasing all mail which takes 2 weeks to restore? People being randomly dropped from zeppelins like meat bombs?

unfortunately you are assuming the OP was allowed by his parents to go on the internet without supervision when that game came out...

    Be nice.

The main purpose of OB is testing scenarios for the comming of game launch.  They should learn from this experience and put procedures and processes in place to prevent it on launch day.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

Maybe the OP joined wow after 2007 or wasn't aware what happened on high pop servers or some of the unlucky servers.

    In the first few years:
Some servers had queues of 3-5 hour wait time continuously. (e.g. blackrock and frostmourne)
Sometimes after a large new patch a few servers would be down for 2-3 days, while the lucky ones were down for just under a day.

Not to mention how much the servers were down altogether and being permastuck in loot status from picking one of the wonderfully bugged harvest nodes until you relogged to queue up again to get back into game.  I never would have stuck around in that game if they wouldn't have offered all the free time they did.

I gave up and went back to playing Elder Scrolls: Oblivion which I went back to in July after leaving it to play a variety of MMO's.  Will check out CO in Sept when I get my game in the mail  - have fun beta'ing yawl.

I'm 33 and don't let me get nast y on here. I played wow when it first released and in beta as well. Yes there were bugs and that was 5 yrs ago, other companies should learn that on first day of open beta you should have a working patcher. Sorry there's no excuse, you want to make money in this business you do it the right way. Cryptic did it the wrong way and could not even get a damn patcher right, that's really horrible IMO. If the patcher is so borked I can just imagine what the servers are like.

    But what do I know.

    :)

Obviously nothing, if you are comparing the launch of open BETA to the launch of an actual release.  This is what open beta is for, to stress test the servers/patchers...etc before launch so they don't run into these problems on launch day.

  • WickedjellyWickedjelly Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 4,990

Well, this is what happens when you push beta as a marketing tool to try and get people to purchase your game.  I'm not blaming the companies because I would do the same thing if I was in their boat since now a days more and more people treat beta as a way to get  a "free trial" of the game but the reality is some are going to raise a fuss if they have issues.

Now a days, open beta is not a beta; its a marketing tool to bring in and show new customers the game.  They lost alot of potential customers today.  This game is not ready for release.

Jeez people are ADD riddled.  I actually have ADHD and guess what?  the patcher was down so I just did something else.  I came back around 8pm and logged right into the game(crazy I know).  I was in beta previous to this so I kinda already knew the game was pretty polished but jeez if you can't wait while they get the queing and the patching server ready on day 1 of open beta when you haven't even paid then mmo's are not the hobby for you.

Beta'd and play'd Wow huh,  sounds like someone has selective memory about the way wow launched.  I'm not here to tell people if CO is for them or not but really if you're 33 and can't wait a half a day to start your FREE beta experience then maybe you are better off going back to a game that has been around for awhile for stability sake.

Open beta is pretty much a bite in the ass for any MMO. The point of open beta is to find bug/issues before release. So on release day they don't see these problems. But many players use it as a free trial and if things aren't perfect then they decide the game is not ready for release.

On the other hand, if a company doesn't have an open beta so they can be sure on their own of any issues. People then claim the company is hiding something and decide the game is not ready for release.

So now they are finding issues that should be fixed before the official release.  As a player, we haven't given them any money yet. Except those pre-orders.  So why get worked up? Treat the game as a f2p game for now. If it runs it runs, if not, find something else to do till it does.

Obviously not much...keep dreaming that Devs manage to find the time to make things perfect or even near so for launch  :) People should of learned that the chance of that were next to nill since the day sof UO and Everquest 1 ...it'll never Happen.

At start time? Sorry, you have the wrong start time. The start time is in a couple weeks. This is the before start time. During the 'before start time', you're allowed to have people not log in.

You guys need to chill out.

This type of thing happens to open betas ALL THE TIME. Happened with WoW, happened with other games, you should not be surprised by this. Sure it'd be nice if Cryptic was probably the first company ever to have an open beta without any hitches, but that's life.

Are you the same people who come into a movie theater on a big blockbuster's opening day, 5 minutes before showtime, and go "Oh no, where will we sit?"

The patch servers are being overloaded because of large crowds. They are adding more patch servers to try and help. They are working on it, but this is nothing new to the genre. The only way to test a patcher/patch server with this many people, is to have this many people try to use it. Guess what, that's us.

Take a deep breath, have a kit-kat, wait for it to download. The world isn't going to end because you have to wait a bit.

I quoted off the wrong person tbh, regardless I was in previous to ob and logging in wasn't an issue.  This was the first day of OB so of course everyone will try to download/patch/login all at the same time and you might see delays.  The patcher/servers are up btw.

Oh well hell. No wonder. Nobody expects anything to work after closed beta. Come on people. Am i the only one who smelled fish when they offered a STO beta key for a lifetime sub to this disaster? Now why would they do that i wonder?

Because they offered it on the 6 month subscription already and there was no reason not to? There was also no "disaster" when they offered it. But then again, tin foil hats are shiny

Oh i thought maybe it was to encourage people to fork over the money, i didnt realize they were doing it because they are such good guys.  If they are throwing in tin foil hats that might help as well.  Problem is if they cant get a patcher to work at this stage of things i see problems but then common sense has no place here i suppose.
