The game is going well so far.  They worked out alot of kinks in their patcher/serverload yesterday so we should see a pretty smooth launch.  All you need to do is get a hit on a mob to get credit for its defeat so questing is pretty painless even in congested areas.  The graphics are only ok, but the gameplay is alot more fun than your typical MMO.

The only things this game is lacking is a sense that you "can play your character well" and a good open MMO world.  Millenium City feels neat, but the desert and Canada are both very artifical feeling.  Perhaps the first issue is resolved when you get more powers to use, and if the strongholds are actually a challenge.

There are a few bugs here and there, but nothing game breaking.  Comparing this game to the ones that have been out for a couple of years already is silly.  CO is in a pretty decent spot.

From what I have heard online their aren't too many people that aren't having a good time.

They aren't designing as much for the console anymore.  Expanding the power tray to 14 slots pretty much proves it.

I use the 360 control and it works just fine with the 14 power slots.  Menus are still clunky, but if you haven't played with the 360 control, you're missing out.

The game is okay, but its not for me.. I thought I would like it but, I just cant find a comfortable way to play this game at its pace with a mouse and keyboard setup.. Perhaps if they added something like TCoS where you can highlight and select a skill using the mouse wheel while aiming.. I dunno, I just dont like it.. time to check out Fallen Earth...

MMORPG.COM should totally give awards for people that posted that they didn't like a game and weren't douchebags.  You would totally get one.  :P

O well the way people talk about the game is it is just ok, and graphic are not great. it really is not worth all the pain of a bad patcher coding , only preorder for 5 bucks and will transfer it to my aion pre.. was looking to try this, but seems the devs really don't want us to patch and log in..

I seriously wonder what happened with the patcher.  I do not recall any issues with it during the whole time I was in the CB.  Really just does not make any sense to me.

I think the game has a solid foundation.  Here is a tidbit of information that most players do not know and it really makes a huge difference in the game.  So, hidden and burried deep within this post is the key.

What confuses poeple ( and me at first to be honest ) about the stats is which one controls the power level for my character?  Meaniing, as a Caster I know INT is the one to stack.  What is it for this character?

It is the SupoerPower that you choose at the first level you get it.  Each of the stats has some affect on your character.  Str for melee attacks, DEX for defense, END for enegy.  However, pick one of them as a SUPER STAT and you know get a bonus to your power set when you incriment that stat.

Each of the builds will list 2 stats that are most beneficial to the power set you are  selecting during character selection.  Most people gloss right over this.  It is like not spotting that the elf gets +2 INT over the Human race.  Those are just recommendations for you to use.  After playing the character a bit, seeing the options on upgrading or enhancing the powers, trying out some of them in the training room, you may find that you want DEX for a character set instead of Str.  STR may make you hit harder more often but DEX gives you those CRITS that are devistating.

There really are SO MANY wanys to build and test each power set it is rediculous.  2 people can have the same powers with different stats and enhancements and play a completely different game from the other guy!!!!!!

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

It looks very pretty, Millenium City is a real jewel (? spelling ^^). The team at cryptic have spent a lot of effort in avatar customisation and power sets, unfortunately they forgot to design a world you could use that customisation in, no matter what your design there's only one thing to do - go bash skulls - only one route from beginning to end, one method to resolve...well everything... you literally cannot exploit the vast variety of powers on offer and the game offers no variety, style or atmosphere, no choice and no consequence...... it leaves you 'all dressed up with nowhere to go' =/

If I were to hazard a theory I think its too obviously a a coporate product, someone ordered a checklist of MMO staples to be implemented without any real thought of theme or conviction, it's designed to consume time rather than involve or entertain you, a functional but sterile experience....like Hellgate and Tabula imo same problem, nothing intrinsically wrong with the games but really nothing to engage you or make you care enough to keep going.

From looking at your post history I can see that you had already dismissed the game months ago.

I get it, it's not WoW, you hate Bill and Jack, and it has MT...but you don't have to insult people that might like features of it.

Should I be impressed that you went to all the trouble to check my previous posts, cupcake? Pity you're not of a mindset to actually read them and comprehend anything beyond your narrow-minded adoration of this shiny new thing. I remember you. You were in love with WAR once upon a time. How's that working out for you now? Wonder what you'll be in love with 6 months from now when you grow disenchanted with this one? Or I wonder, will you even buy it or do you just feel important posting like you're your current love's biggest blind fan? That's the trouble with people like you. You can't stand people who have opposing viewpoints. If anything i've posted on this game or any other is inaccurate, then please enlighten the class. Otherwise, go back to trying to convince the curious and the unwary (and possible even yourself) that this half-finished attempt at a game is the next big thing.

I really don't see how CO could be considered "half finished" or an "attempt at a game" when its clearly not any worse off then any other MMO in the market currently.  The game will hold some subscribers attention, it may not for others.  Me personally, it was fun during beta.. I enjoyed the content, and I will probably sub later then sooner because the content is entertaining.  To me it seems like trying to devalue your peers is entertaining to you,  I guess that is lucky as that doesn't cost anything but others opinions of you.

If anything I still believe everyone should take this time to try CO for themselves... especially while its in OB.

By the way, waiting to download a beta client, or having issues with a beta install is not a deal breaker for me, and it really means nothing.  I'm talking about the gameplay and feel of the game.  Anything good at all?  Or is this a one that should be passed?

Well, I have something good to say. Finally got the game working.

it looks great. It reall does. It looks like a comic book, with very rich colors. It's wonderful.

Now, if people don't want a game that looks like a comic book then I suppose there is nothing to be said. But I putt my settings to the highest I can go and I have to say that I am certainly glad I did not listen to other people who harped on the art design.

It's very stylized. So if you have a charcter in your head that you want to make right down to the very detail, I think you will be out of luck. However, you can definitely create a character in the same ball park as the one you want.

Don't listen to nay-sayers.  So far its a really good game.  Got myself to 13 so far (levels seem to be less of a steep curve that many games) beat up 100 mobs at level 1 go up a level, bear up 100 mobs at 10 go up a level.  good scaling.

It is a pretty challenging game in some instances (had to teleport away numerous times to escape a group of mobs that were too much for me)  Death is no huge deal and grouping is more fun than solo (for me at least)

Very Comic-booky, in my oppinion it is everything I wished that CoH/CoV would be.

This is from 2 days of play (few hours each) and 13 levels so I'm no expert.

    Fun combat though

Most of yesterday was spent trying to patch the game, so not very many people actually got to play it.

Now that we can actually play, expect to see comments on the actual gameplay coming in. The only thing I've been able to test so far was the patcher, which everyone knows is a steaming pile of crap.

No, I have no problem with opposing viewpoints.  I have a problem with people who can't just say that they don't like something without having to convince everyone else that they should hate it too.  You can look at the current US health care debate for plenty of real-world examples :)

I did like the comic book feel to the game, customization  and the travel powers were fun. Other than that I just thought it would be more exciting.

What Im noticing of the posts is that nearly all of the supporters did not play in Closed Beta.

So many "Ive been playing for 2 hours and its AWESOME" type posts.

While the Closed Beta testers that have been playing for months are saying its bad.

Hmm, who to believe? Someone who has played through all the content the game has to offer or someone who is 10 minutes out of the tutorial?

I wont be getting Champions Online. The convoluted process it went through to arrive where it is now clearly had an impact on the game. Also, the way Cryptic handled CoH after release doesnt inspire hope for the future of this game.

*raises hand* I was in closed beta and ive posted some good things about the game.  Also, before the boards were merged (closed beta with public) there werent really too many rumblings about people disliking the game.  Actually many closed beta testers were enjoying it, but thats not to say those that didnt enjoy it just moved on and didnt feel the need to push an agenda on the CO forums some folks are here.

but what Im noticing is nearly all the people who do not like the game were not closed beta testers.

I just played for the first time today for a couple of hours, having already preordered with the 6 month subscription to go along with that.  Im probably not going to play much if anymore at all until the 3 day headstart.  I like what I have experienced and dont want to overplay it on characters that will be wiped.

I played last night after I got home from work. Played for about 6 hours I think.

I've been playing COH for years and was excited for CO but that was a negative as much as it was a positive I think.

CO is different from COH, thats not good different or bad different just different. I'm still "getting to grips" with the character creator. Main reason is that it's just soooo expansive. There are a huge amount of options in there but I still found my self looking for a particular piece of gear or look I used in COH.

I played passed the opening tutorial last night and got my travel power - acrobatics and I have to say I was very impressed. Very easy to use and really well implemented I had my character jumping/rolling and back-flipping around the place in quick time and I really like the ability to try a power before locking it as your choice.

I'm still trying to define my "look" within CO again becuase it's a different style to COH which I have got used to over time.

I do like what I've played so far and am actively looking forward to play again tonight. Tonight however I'm going to try "forget" all I know about CO and stop comparing the two..... see how I get on.

That's awesome, cause I've been noticing the exact opposite.  I think you're cherry-picking posts you want to prove your point because "zomg the patcher didn't work on the first day of open beta".  You realize that's the reason for open betas right?  The actual GAME has been very solid with hardly any problems.

As  a prior closed beta member, the beta forums where always generally positive.  Most people enjoyed the game... and 95% of the arguments where generally about two different ways of making it better.  The only negative complaint that ever came up that was generally championed by the majority was the lack of teaming at low levels, and that's been somewhat alleviated by the adjustment of difficulty across the boards.

I love how everyone is just making shit up about the lifetime subs at the moment.... NOTHING is stopping you from playing open beta before you buy one. NOTHING. You have until September 1st to make up your mind.

The game is fun. Which is something a lot of other games are missing right now. You can min/max if you want, or you can do your own thing and try to create story and theme driven characters. Combat is just as exciting as every other MMO at the low levels (not sure about the high ones) and the graphics are actually very good if your system can handle them. I play at fully maxed on 1920x1200 and the game looks amazing.

You realize that closed beta does not mean they actually played. A lot of people giving bad reviews logged in, played an earlier version and decided they didnt like it, then logged out for good and started sprewing flamebait that "the game sucks!"

Honestly I really love the graphic style of this game.  I love the attempt at a single server even if it creates a ton of instances.  I like the pace of combat even if it is monotomous.

These are the things I like about the game.
