Reusing the beta client?

kamenwatikamenwati Member Posts: 168

Any word on if we'll be able to re-use the CB client for OB?

More importantly, will we be able to re-use the CB and/or OB client for Release?

I'm thinking of buying a digital download copy, and it would be a PITA if I had to re-download everything rather than just patch to 1.5.

your client should just update as they continue the patch.  For me, past games have done that for me when moving from beta to retail.  You should have no problem.

MMOs played: Horizons, Auto Assault, Ryzom, EVE, WAR, WoW, EQ2, LotRO, GW, DAoC, Aion, Requiem, Atlantica, DDO, Allods, Earth Eternal, Fallen Earth, Rift

Yep, keep the same client, it will patch automatically through the NCsoft Launcher. See you in OB.

When I downloaded it, via Steam, it downloaded the bulk of the data, which I'm assuming is 1.0, over the Steam network.  After all that was downloaded, the ncsoft launcher fired up, and it updated it to the current 1.2.whatever.  So, I'm guessing that the 'beta' clients aren't true betas, just older revisions of the existing game.

Thats correct but they are patched to 1.0  not 1.2  there was a patch added before cb5 but was just some additional stuff NCWest added for "westernisation".

people have 1.0.2.14 and even if we read 1.0(.2.14) most people think they are using 1.2

Some games require a whole new download as a lot of times there is a bunch of junk in the beta version that has been cleaned up/removed in the final version. Also it eliminates potential issues.

However, Aion has been out for over a year so really our beta was a final version. So yes, it will simply be patched for OB. Also, this gives NCSoft a chance to spread out the downloads for the massive 1.5 patch rather than having everyone downloading a huge patch at launch.
