Magic damage stat? which is it

jugularveinjugularvein Member UncommonPosts: 371

Hi all got a silly question but according to the descriptions via ingame I really cant tell which stat adds to your overall magic damage.  Im guessing intel, but I have noticed mostly all of the items Im recieving is adding to the strength attribute.  Any help would be great thx

    There isn't one.

Every player can choose two primary statistics (at specific levels). These two statistics affect the damage of your powers.

Im not quite following cause when i tried to customize strength clearly states it affects melee damage but their isnt a clear stat that says increase magic damage.  If i went the psi route then, which stats would increase magically damage output?  Is it the two recommended stats when ur making a character? So confusing lol any help would be great.

I believe Intelligence affects your energy damage which magic probably falls under.  I'm not completely sure but that's my guess.

It's funny.  There are a lot of complaints about the game but a lot are just silly and irrational.  My complaint about CO is that things are not explained very well.  It may be the game is overly complex when it shouldn't be.  Cryptic needs to make things much more clear without making players read pages of in-game information.

Look for a common stat between Fire, Ice, Lightning..im pretty sure its intelligence.

I could be wrong. And yes, the descriptions could use work.

green13 is correct.  There isn't a stat directly associated with any particular power.  The devs had a long post explaining this.  Basically, you get to choose your two "Super Stats" while playing, and those will eventually determine your damage.

It was done this way so that if you wanted a hero who could lift a truck because he was super strong you could pick Strength.  If you wanted a hero who was superstrong because his mind allowed him to be "strong", you could pick Ego.

    That is actually pretty cool.

So a very dexterous person can whoop butt with precision, a smart guy knows all the pressure points, and a brute can damage with strength!

    Outside of roleplay reasons

why wouldnt someone pick stats that would give them the greatest advantage

    from the secondary aspect ?

If I am understanding your question correctly that is what people should do. A person should pick the two stats that will help their particular build the most. Each stat does something different so depending on how you want your character to play you should pick the ones that will give you the best advanatages.

the problem with min/maxing here is that unlike in WoW all stats are usefull to all roles. except maybe presence for the DPS.

im doing the whole gun thing and raising mostly dex and ego for more criticals and so that they will hit harder too.  And some on the stats thats good for maintaining energy.

EDIT: I got a item that has +2 offense, so I guess thats the stat for more damage?  But I dont see it on the character overview though.

When you select a powerset during character creation it will show you what two stats the set favors in the description text.

There are some strange synergies. Fire for example is Presence (for aggro reduction) and Recovery (for big alpha strike damage). Also, the passive power Fire Form will scale its damage bonus with Presence and its resistance bonus with Recovery. Most sets have at least one power that will scale based on one stat or another.
