Day 4: Alternate Paths

So continuing on my Beta journey I decided to see how the alting process was.  My first cahracter was a straight Ice Framework.  My second was Sorcery.  For the first five levels I was a bit disapointed to notice nearly no discernable difference in game play.  Same attacks, and while there was a different secondary effect, it didn't seem to alter any of the fights.  However, after getting the AOE for Magic, things changed enough that I can can see doing some alt work.  How much remains to be seen, but seems to be variety here if you go looking for it.

I also moved to the desert instead of Canada.  Another very enjoyable experience.  Perhaps playing through it more times will make me a bit jaded, but so far I have been very pleasantly surprised with both the variety and types of missions.  Yes, they still have many of the same goals as other missions, but the atmosphere is very well done and I have not felt like it was a collect 10 bear pelts... even if some of them were collect 10 bear pelts.  It's true you have to read the story, but it's not bad for MMO faire and as long as the rest of the game has missions/areas like this I will be happy.

I'm not sure which is a better model: CoH's random missions which are infinately varried, but ultimately the same few expereinces... or CO's themepark on rails with great theme and varriation but the same experience each time.  I suppose much of that will depend on whether or not there is enough content to keep you playing for the long term.  I am hooking up with a RP group that is starting out and looking forward to meeting them in game.

Still very much positive about the game and assuming that Cryptic keeps people working on CO, there should be no reason that it doesn't blossom into a very content/feature rich game like it's presecesor.

A combination would be nice :)

Yeah, I created two characters, ran one through Canada (really snow and native's, I guess the Dev's have never been up here), and the Desert.

Now I'm thinking of creating a third, but I really dont want to play through those two zones again. They should give you more options for starting out.
