Review of my 3 builds so far (plus more).

So ever since cryptic got the patching issue taken care of I have really taken the time to delve into the "meat and potatoes" of CO's character creation and advancement. At first I was extremely confused as there is almost no documentation to help new players figure out things like "power replacers", how to change the look of your weapons, ect but after the really helpful community clued me in I have been hooked.

Let me tell you, this game has some depth. Never have I had more fun just trying out new things than in CO. The powerhouse was a masterful stroke in character creation and kudos to Cryptic for that idea. I have been playing the game about 80% grouped with a buddy of mine and man is it fun.

Here are a couple of the builds I have come up with.

"Cash"

Munitions energy builder (ranged)

Munitions basic 2 gun attack

Munitions melee gun kata skill with a chance to stun

Munitions Grenade Toss

Regeneration

teleportation

Right now Cash is only level 12 and I have not branched into any other sets yet. I think I am about done with the munitions set though and I will begin to add gageteering skills to his build.

This build was my first and plays very well for a straight ranged character. I even set up the targeting to work like a 3rd person shooter for a while and enjoyed it. The 3rd person shooter mode adds a crosshair on the screen and adjusts your camera to be a bit over your character. You aim the crosshair to "soft target" an enemy. I would have left it like this if there weren't a few bugs that made the targeting mode a litte frustrating. I have the auto attack set to maintain as it feels more like a shooting game.

"Vampira"

Supernatural Energy builder (mellee)

Supernatural basic "chain lariat" attack

Supernatural BITE! attack with bleed

Supernatural Energy Drain

Regeneration

Acrobatics

Let me tell you CO is the first game where I have made a character that actually feels like a vampire. All I need to do is build her strength up a bit more and add some more melee skills and I will be happy. Not sure if I want to pick tank skills or martial arts yet. The acrobatics movement power just screams vampire though. I use a more action game oriented targeting mode with her and the melee energy builder isn't that bad for PvE. Actually I believe melee energy builders do more damage than ranged ones. I have her autoattack set to NONE because it seems like I can make her attack faster by mashing the button (I might be crazy though).

"Kinetica" (Current Favorite)

Telekenisis Energy Builder (ranged)

Telekenisis basic energy sword attack

Telekenisis blast power with knockback

Telekenisis well.... Telekinesis ability :D (extremely cool)

Telekenisis shield for block

Munitions sub machine gun

Kinetica is my favorite right now. I am building her to be a support character that sits in the back of the group and flings semi-trucks at baddies with her mind. The energy builder is fast, and if anything gets close to me her energy sword does impressive damage with the 3 hit combo.

I also picked up the Telekenetic blast power/sub machine gun so I could fling bad guys backwards and waste them with my gun while they are still flying through the air. You have to try this out! Very satisfying.

I plan on grabbing one of the better defensive passives for her and maybe a few more ranged damage skills from trees that will work with high ego (possibly telepathy). I have been using a basic MMO control scheme with her as I find it works best. I have auto attack set to none as well.

My next character is going to be called Fanboyy and will be a jedi clone. I plan on using single blade, force, telekenisis and telepathy for him. Yeah he is going to be a complete cluster **** but hey....thats whats fun right?

My friend has been using an ice character and is loving it. Some of his aoe skills are both highly damaging and visually impressive. He has an aoe knockback that summons a large iceburg like thing and sends mobs flying 30 feet in the air and 60 feet back. Totally over the top and awesome.

The biggest plus for this game is that every character I have made has felt super and has been fun.

Now if they could get the performance problems ironed out then I would be in super hero mmo heaven.

I found  that heros feel even better when they delve into more than one power type. My Blood Sucking Cyborg for example :)

    O.o Now that sounds cool!

Most of mine will have multiple power types....just haven't gotten there yet!

I'm having a lot of fun with the Power Armour set at the moment.

    That Eye-Beam is frankly overpowered!

Wasn't too sold on the game at first; the different sets seemed extremely samey, but when you get into the game a bit more it starts to diversify nicely. I do think that the lack of early skills makes the introduction of the game very "meh", 'cos at level 10 I've still only got a couple of decent attacks so the gameplay isn't complex compared to other modern MMOs where you get a couple of new skills every other level.
