This game is doomed to fail

I will be very surprised if this game is released before Christmas of next year.

Everyone was so excited to beta test this game and it's not even close to Beta.  I have lost interest.  I mean, if it is so close to release, why cant we see what the cockpit looks like. It must be a secret or something.

Whoops, they are still working on it and working on it and working on it.  Bleh!

You must also realize that there is this other space MMO... If NetDevil speaks too openly about things or shows a bunch of stuff that is going to be implemented, then maybe EVE Online will soon have all of those options too. So it's a pretty good thing to not speak so openly about these things. I actually think that when this game comes out, that it'll be a pretty good one too. The videos I've seen so far are way beyond the graphical experience that EVE Online delivers. And in terms of gameplay I expect about the same quality.

I can't say I have high hopes for this game.  NetDevil as a company doesn't impress me much because their track record is, shall we say, "less than stellar?"  (Yeah, that pun was intended.)
I was in the Auto Assault beta and it was immediately apparent that game was going to have extraordinarily limited appeal and was doomed to failure.  Warmonger was completely unplayable most of the time, and when it was operational it was astonishingly dull.  Which, come to think on it, was how AA came across, too.

Sounds to me like they're making a lot of the same mistakes they made with Auto Assault.  Least, things I thought were mistakes, but maybe they think that failed because of the whole car theme, rather than everything they did to water it down.  They should realize that if they're going for a niche, whether its vehicular combat or space combat, they need to focus on what that niche likes, rather than try to appeal to some imaginary vanilla-loving mass-market audience.

May seem like a contradiction to call such a crowd imaginary, but within the realm of players that will actually be giving games like JGE and AA a shot, I think it's essentially the case.  The real contradiction would be expecting many average players to drop WoW or TS3 to even try JGE.  It's the people that will be trying it that they really should keep in mind.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Personally, this might be the final nail in the coffin for ND if they fail this time. Realistically speaking, JGE has very high chance of failure with ND's track record and constant delays on Beta and release date.

That said, I do hope this game delivers simply because there is no alternative for Space MMO's right now. Competition will do good for both EVE, JGE and other games. EVE has been the supreme ruler of Space MMO's for a while now, I love the game, but with prolonged lack of competition from other space MMO's, quality might suffer.

Sure games can fly under the radar and still be good, but mmos need a certain amount of players to be profitable and evolve..

It DID have alot of hype around the time it was supose to release, in June.  Since then there has been an almost complete freeze of info flowing out of ND

More and more, JGE is looking like a EVE clone.

Everytime you bring out massive PVP you going to end up with people whose only purpose in life is to exploit and cheat thier way to the uberness of all. EVE is a pvp haven for cheaters and exploiters and they do not care as long as you pay them the monthly fee.

JGE I feel is heading down that path as well.

Is it really possible for you to know any less about EVE than what you've posted here?  Probably should read up or something before making outrageous statements.

For instance, I doubt anyone really thinks JGE is heading down the EVE path, in fact, its looking to be so far from it that's what has a lot of folks worried. Just because the game has PVP doesn't make it an EVE clone.

As for another post where someone claimed "insider" knowledge about the developers plans to add piracy I call bullshit, if it was really going to be in the game they would have discussed the mechanics a long time ago, not a few months before their targeted release date.  (which won't really happen until well into next year if then)

Or maybe not, ND seems pretty clueless in how to develop a complete game, perhaps its just par for the course.

Totally agree with you.  JGE is heading down the WoW path, not the EVE path.

Not really, because if WOW's proven anything, there can really only be one (successful) game like itself.  All other pretenders are pretty much minor players.

To garner a good audience a game will have to carve out its own niche and go its own way..... shame so few companies understand this yet.

I doubt it highly, space gamers are a different breed of gamer and generally want accuracy, complexity and realism. What will make JGE a success is staying true to the space sim games and listen to the community and make your game around that.

aye, but the developers of JGE are aware of it, if they weren't it wouldve already been released and wouldve already flopped.

You think waiting helps? With Black Prophecy looming. EVE going FPS integration? WoW with a new expansion. AoC expansion.

And later FFXIV, GW II, SW ToR, The Secret World, etc. etc.

They can wait as long as they want, but the market is still over-saturated the next five years at least.

There are tons of f2p games coming out too and they increase in quality all the time..

Yeah definitely. You only get one shot. Releasing a product early is the only certain way to fail these days, judging by many recent releases. If you want the game to fail, lobbying for an early release is your best bet.

Agreed. If you release too early without the basics fine tuned there is little hope that much will change when they start the nerfing frenzy. Eve clone or not I can not wait to dog fight in the Dancer Engine!

yea I saw the direction JGE was going last year.

Thankfully Black Prophesy will be awesome.  BP is Hearkening back to the days of Independence war meets Privateer meets Freelancer.

They have their head on straight for what people want, not an arcade shooter that has a chat room (JGE)

So has their been any recent news about Development?  about the beta?  My clan and I somewhat fell out of this game but I am curious if this game is alive or not?

It's in closed testing with friends and family until they're confident enough it's ready for a full beta test. The game is alive and kicking, it's just that they decided it wasn't ready and have pushed back beta and release.

Thank you Agricola.  Sounds like SGW where Khatie came from.  They went into "Family test" and well...  Not saying it is Khatie but a few people joked about it who were waiting for SGW and this game.

Thank you again for the reply
