I was able to get into the beta recently and give this game a nice run.  However, I was disappointed about it.

These are in my opinion, by the way, but:

I found the controls a little annoying, especially when switching bewteen weapons.  Its felt like I was doing too much work to go from my melee to my rifle.  Couldn't they just map the weapons on the mousewheel by itself, like on FPS?

Combat is a pain.  Why do I have to switch back and forth bewteen two modes?  Couldn't they disable shooting in towns or what not, or allow me to loot while in a attack state so I can get into the fight faster?  It just seems they could merge the two modes just fine.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the quest log also bothered me a large amount.  It has no organization that I could find or figure.  I which it would track multiple quests all at once.

I felt that the combat was somehwat standard.  It didn't really add anything new, at least not to me.  If anything, it is like a average FPS.  Nonetheless, attacking was enjoyable.

My biggest beef is the stats, or the character development.  It felt too complex and complicated.  Sure they give you 20 points to spread out, but spread them out among several options.  This may sound silly, but I want it to be dumb-downed a little.

So yes, its a bit rough around the edges, combat animations aren't its strong point but it still provides a lot of fun to those of us who like the more sandboxy games such as the original pre CU SWG or Eve.
You've only got to look at the number of Wasteland Runner pre-order horses in every town to see that a large proportion of beta testers have been impressed enough to pre-order the game already and I'm one of them.
The publishers aren't attempting to take on WoW, LotRO, SWToR etc. It's having a very low key launch, probably with just one server and I'm sure there are going to be more than enough players to keep that going. I imagine Icarus's overheads are a fraction of those of a company such as Blizzard so a relatively small playerbase will give them the funds to add polish to the game over the coming months.

Gamers today are into stream lined Theme Park mmorpgs and need direction in mmorpgs now. The mass majority still like the WoW clones, cause they are simple to understand and get into. Where is my Auto Attack button? Welcome to the microwave age of mmo gaming.

Your right, there are gamers out there that are looking for something new and refreshing. This game boasts a HUGE open world, it does have alot of factions, the setting is not like any other mmo out there now and player housing is the next big talk . It will be a Niche game. As I stated, the devs at FE got something here and I already hear we got a couple of Post Apocalyptic MMORPGS coming out as well.

Post Apocalytpic seems to be the new theme, I wonder how 2012 the movie will be.

Ok I got sidetracked.. I usually go where Angels fear to trend and will try this mmo since its seems to be one of a kind right now. I just need a game that breaks away from the mindless fantasys of Dwarfs, Elves, Orcs and Wizards.

What sold me on the game and I kid you not.. When I was on my horse mount and travelling the desert roads to Depot 66, I was passed up by 2 players on a crotch rocket motorcycle and another on a ATV (LOL). Even though I was going to get this game from the get go, this just sealed the deal when I saw this.

This game is off the hook and different, combines alot of the old school elements of mmo tricks and feels more like a sandbox mmo to me.

Using the WoW fanboi attack are we now? For the note I believe this is bullshit, it has nothing to do with WoW, Lotro or any other games, its simply bad. The game mechanics are fucked up. As an ex EvE player its a fucking insult comparing it to FE, why? Because EvE mechanics are fuckin great! Sure you might say EvE has boring combat etc but the ships act like space ships would in the sense of them turning accelerating and so forth, FE does not so dont you fuckin dare go WoW fanboy on me.

If youd read the thread you wouldve known this has nothing to do with theme park vs sandbox. I dont give a shit wether you like this game or that one, if you like FE or WoW but to say that people who dislike this game are pure bread RPG fans, or WoW fanbois is fucking pathetic. I can think of several things you might like about this game, the game mechanics however its not one of them, they fucked up the most important thing in a game and it will never recover. If you like it, good for you I didnt.

I played in the CB a few months back and tried very hard to test the game. I do actually 'test' when I'm in Betas, not just try a game to see if I like it. This one thought I just couldn't force myself to keep going on (not the worst by a long shot) but not the best by an even longer shot. I'm a bit disappointed that things are still in such rough shape. *shrug* Such as it is.

Then theres the gameplay.. a mmofps my ass this is "some kind off hold mouse buttom on target RPG", like Tabula Rasa but without any feeling whatsoever.
Once you get into weapons mode and attack an enemy his template pops up as well as the cursor which for me... Its nood a good FPS... and its certainly not from that limited experience I had a descent RPG, for crying out loud this game makes every F2P game game of the year.
Im so disapointed, Ive been waiting and cheking up on everything released, from dev blogs to trailers and supposedily gameplay vids. The game looks like its been made in the 90s, its not the graphics of the characters or the world itself. That I can live with, some could even say it looks quite nice but the inventory, the big ugly name/hp tags (yes these can be removed but its too impractical to do)
This game lacks everything that a modern FPS game would have and by combining a poor combat system it also fucks up the RPG side of the game and its clear to me what kinda game this will be.. I reckon it be a game for hardcore fanbois.
As for me, well Im sitting here trying to think of a worse game Ive ever played, I feel so screwed over but hey atleast they let me try it that way I wouldnt have spent 50$.
I would like to hear what others actually like about this game since I find it shockingly bad.

agreed 100%... wtf was that? lol!

I am playing this game on a HP dv5 laptop (C2D 2,2 and a 9600M GT DDR2), so it really is not a high-end system. The major towns in the game are about 10-15 FPS, but it does not really matter, as there is no fighting inside of the towns. The FPS goes outside from 30-60 (no shadows or AA, AF, maximal view range, 1280*800).  An the game itself? I just stopped playing the beta because I am going to buy this game. Try it, really. And if you do not like it after playing and crafting a bit, let it be, this game is never going to be your favourite.

I agree with many comments on the UI, and the bugs in the game, but you are passing judgement on a game that isnt complete and is still 3+ weeks away from its ship date.    Lets try to remember that.    I too didnt like the combat system, and the constant killing NPC mobs, or running 1 of 20 or so quests...  At least they werent instanced.

Graphics could have been better, but I understand the need to cut the corners there... only so much a computer can handle.   (And dont say FO3 runs so much better on my system because... cause thats a MUCH smaller world and data is NOT transmitted over the net)
The crafting system is nice, but I see it more and more.... hundreds of options, thousands of possibilities.   Thats great, for those with NO lives.   But it is nice to see that kind of depth in a crafting system unlike other games, hey find 3 things and right click on this cool thing and POW! you have a new uber talisman!

But I wont pass final judgement on this game till I see the released version.    Right now its got potential, but 3 weeks isnt alot of time.   And its further along than other games I have seen put out by indy companies before.... need I remind you all of WWIIOL's release?

This man brought up the WWIIOL release...arrrrggggghhhhhh.

Well the tone of this post and all the others by you in this thread simply reinforces my view that you just because you dont like it, it goes over your head that other people might. I have news for you, there are plenty that do.  We know it has lots of faults technically but  IT DOESN'T MATTER because we can overlook them and still enjoy the stuff that does work.

So in conclusion I suppose the most apt thing to say would be the usual  "if you don't like it, don't come crying here, go back to WoW" or more likely, another free beta to add to your growing list of games played.

Thats the one thing I don't get about these forums. People will play a game, decide they don't like it and come on here to sound the alarm and rally the troops on some kind of great crusade against a product as if they have the power to sway humanity. No matter how punctual or how many big words you use, people are going to play what they want and that's what it all boils down to...

Im sorry if you misunderstood the purpose of my thread, its not for hardcore fans of FE obviously but rather for those of us who waited for the game and thought it was gonna be real good. The reason I made this thread at all is because of the shocking state the game is in, its one of the worst games Ive played. I have played a lot of mmos, most mainstream and others smaller  ones but I never made a thread about how I despice the game because in general their just bland and mediocre.

But in  this case its so frickin bad. That is my opinion, for those who like this game fine have fun but those of you who hasnt tried it and is thinking about buying it, take a long look at this game, if your not into crafting or in a bad bad need of an apocalyptic mmo dont buy it. Wether your a WoW fanboy or an EvE PvP hardcore player it doesnt matter. The game mechanics are simply not acceptable in the 21th century. It is a bad joke, its fucking sad as it seems to have a descent crafting system and a good lore.

    /agree with OP.

Played tutorial, thought it was ok, combat was pretty bad. Got into the main world found nothing all that exciting or engaging.

I liked the lore behind the game, but the actual gameplay mechanics are way behind the times. True the game doesn't hold your hand,  but if the combat / questing / world is bland, then who cares about character development and meager sandbox elements.
