Ok I got into Open Beta I played it a bit, plays great on my PC on everythin maxed out / loved the combat / plays smooth etc. etc.
I'm wondering tho..
I played WoW mostly then LoTRO and EQ2... So I'm wondering...What's the purpose of this game ?
I'm not flaming or anything it's more of a question to people more familiar with the genre/game...
I mean, there's no gear so I don't think it's a raiding game...I can't see any extensive questing / storytelling ala Lotro... And most certainly is far away from Warhammer's RVR concept...
So what am I looking at here ? 
I've been scratching my head for a bit so help would be appreciated!
BTW before you start saying "play the game" etc. I have to add my wireless internet is not functioning anymore so I can't play the game for 2 more weeks I'm afraid... And being at a netcafe right now I can't do extensive research (I'm looking at the site/forums etc. right now but I thought a post would bring me up to speed faster!)

There is gear/items that improve your characters statistics. The best stuff is from the high level Omega PvE system and PvP. I would assume there are some pretty decent drops off the Legendary/Cosmic villains and Lair bosses as well, but I'm unsure.
They also have a perk system similar to WoWs achievement system you can use to buy stuff with, unlock costume items, etc.
Its basically like the badge system WoW uses for PvE, and the Honor Point system it uses for PvP... with a few differences. Not really bad considering the game hasn't released yet.
so the game is just a perk / min-maxing grind with no substance? O_o
The game is a super hero game. The object is to be the best hero you can be. If you can't handle that without putting the WoW map over it, it's probably not the game for you. It uses a different style than a classic fantasy mmo. Just learn it and play it under those aspects, and then decide if it's for you.
DING DING DING! I never even had to break the NDA or spread negativity for people to figure it out. I guess the world doesn't need trolls or fanboys.
Well being a super hero game doesn't matter ... In all games you try to be the best you can be etc.
Don't use the "go to WoW" here I'm not flaming the game, I played it for a short while I loved how it looked and played and just wanted to understand the deeper aspects.
From what I'm hearing the PvP is just mindless slapping in an arena as well with no rewards? :S
I really hope it's a "not yet released thing" cause I'd love to play or even lifetime sub it... :
If you can't figure out what it has to offer, I don't know why you would "love to play the game" or even get a lifetime subscription. Furthermore, if you're hearing that PvP is just mindless... why would you believe someone if they told you different... you sure aren't making any sense.

What it has going for it, is it's fast pace combat... the more comicbook style settings and story... fun powers... public missions... as well as pvp and a crafting system. It has enough to keep people playing, that's what really matters.
I'd love to PLAY a game that plays like that but I can't just run around killing things for no purpose.
The flow of the game/combat is what makes/breaks a game for me and then I look deeper into it. What doesn't make sense from what I said ?
I liked how you customise your character and how you move/kill stuff but I wanted more info for the actual gameplay/content.
I am gonna play it further myself but I wanted to get some more info till I am able to play and judge with my own logic skills.
Thanks for feeding me with info you can see from 2 screenshots and a 10 sec gameplay vid... Fast pace / comic book style / "fun" powers and public missions...
Even Pacman has people playing doesn't mean it's filled with content...
don't get it why some of you guys have to pretend you're fighting a trollwar in every single post .. Sometimes people just need info/opinions...

That's because most people are tired of having to justify why you or anyone else should play any given game.....that's an issue most of us have come to terms with that was deemed pointless to debate years ago. That responsibility should rest solely on the shoulders of you and the makers of said game....does that make any sense to you?
Trying to mask your doubts about this particular game with a weak attempt of an outcry for feedback from the general populace is nothing more than folly...like us trying to guess your favorite color. We would never know that and we would never know what type of features in a game you would truly enjoy. You asked for an opinion and got one, then you shot back with a negative retort of "So all this is...." comment. Which in itself is a indicator of your lack of excitement for the game.
Here's a word of advice: Just because you see others excited about (enjoying) a game does not mean you should try to convince yourself to feel the same way. What you find purpose in is for you to decide, not us to dream up for you.

I said I played the game for approx 10 mins (spent 2 hours in creating char) then my internet DIED.
I can't play anymore ! I did 1 quest and I was left satisfied with the FEEL of the game.
I have no clue about the game's intent since I wasn't following it much before !
My questions were simple. You chose to turn my questions into a "convince me to play <insert game here>" thread.
One of the replies stated just perks and some stat increases. No mention about storyline, encounters, how quests are - nothing.
When you start discussing about the game rather than how people hate it/judge it then the game may bloom.
Otherwise this is just a pool of negativity. In a few words, I have to wait 2 weeks to actually login again possibly having to buy it without playing more than 30 mins just to see what the game offers - Because people who religiously follow and read about it don't care to talk/explain/guide newcomers but they'd rather point fingers and declare herecy !

I'm going to give 2 quick answers here to 1 question.
The point of any game is entertainment. The actual point and focus of this particular game, is to build an amazingly powerful superhero to combat the forces of evil (created by the developers and also user created evils such as your nemesis). In doing so you have to have A) the drive to want to be a superhero and
The drive to want to play a game without a given core aggressor.
For instance, there is no defined direct opposing faction other then "Evil" that you will be facing. You will face many different opponents of many different factions, none of which will be any more then the next plot in your overall storyline.
To some people, creating their own hero story and becoming something great (and fighting fellow heros later for PvP, and creating new nemesi) is the point in which makes the game worth playing.
This doesn't mean there is a lack of content.. because right now, there isn't (for new players at least -- for my I've played it all over CB) it just means that as far as many players could be concerned, there is no *point* to the game. There is no war to fight, there is no end all be all villain. SO if this game does not entertain, then you have nothing else to really play for.
Wait a second...wasn't that the reason you posted in this forum to begin with? To find a purpose for having a game such as this? The mere mention of you not wanting to fork over $40 before you know what it is about this game that will keep you playing, is asking for a sales pitch no matter how you try to dress it up. You can put syrup on shit, but it still don't make it pancakes.
But I'm getting ahead of myself like always, because I'm assuming that you've already went to the CO page on this very site and read through all the Q&A interviews provided by our fine site managers. If you did then you would have just as much knowledge about this game that any of us here would have within a few clicks. And if not, then clutching straws by trying to compare what you deem purposful as oppose to what I do, is not a debate that I wish to engage in at this time.

Nooo I was a big fan of the superhero idea since CoX but I discovered it too late to be honest ( 2 months ago?) so never gave it a try ! I wasn't looking to find a purpose for this game to exist. I was merely wondering what its direction is. Superhero WoW ? Superhero story based like Lotro ? Superhero clashes in RVR style? etc. etc.
I got a mail from fileplanet for beta keys so I was "new superhero game?! GOTTA TRY"
I managed to d/l and patch spent 2 hours in customisation and 2 quests in the game and 5 mins of wacking mobs just cause it was fun, my internet died and I'm now posting from the neighborhood wireless (games don't work with this one, it is limitedweb access only and tremendously slow for any graphics heavy site/video streaming).
Wonder how many times I have to repeat this story...
So I was all excited and wanted to know more so I managed to get here and ask a bit more till I manage to get info on my own...
It seems a game worth spending the 40$ to buy but I'd prefer at least some info to get hyped up rather than gamble with it and end up getting dissapointed. Don't you at least see a trailer or review of any other non-MMO game you buy before you buy it ? Or even ask a friend about it ?

I'm gonna hope my net is up so i can properly play it..If not I'm buying it anyway and risk it, seems a decent game either way !
Edit: I rather prefer it's more open ended in that way than holding your hand in the fight against the greatest evil etc. - Or at least it's gonna be nice if they add events as they go along that makes the world feel more "spontaneous' and superheroic
