This. TOR will be what SWG is not - a polished, well supported game by a reputable company with a massive, subscribed playerbase. It will be what it will be, a KoTOR style mmo, and that in itself will appeal to many gamers.

TOR will be WoW in space.

You kids go enjoy your Star Wows. SWG is MUCH improved from when LA forced NGE on SOE. TOR has now these LA devs responsable for NGE.

Just listen to the devs explain how in their New Game Experience players will have ICONIC characters that make them feel HEROIC from the start.

There will be NO valid crafting, or crafting professions, no entertainers, or non combat options, no player housing in the open world, no spaceship game. TOR is NOT the sandbox your looking for.

Yea Star WoWs will have more subs, but that's because they are vocally going for the WoW crowd.

    AS FOR THE LAZY COMMENT...

Bioware DID NOT even make their own GAME ENGINE. THEY SIMPLY ARE USING HEROS JOURNEYs engine.

SOE made SWG from the ground up. With MANY more sandbox elements then TOR will ever have.

With all due respect, you honestly have no clue about anything do you? LA has been hands off of SWG from the NGE on (due to embaressment perhaps?).

You have NO idea what is or isn't going to be in TOR as far as crafting, entertaining, player housing etc. You're just talking out of your ass.

And I'm sorry, but licensing a game engine is not lazy. It's just good business sense. Is Lotus lazy for using crate Toyota engines and the running rings around Porsches twice it's price range? Think before posting next time.

As far as the running while jumping animation, THAT is pure laziness. It's a SIMPLE fix that they haven't done because they have their hands full of game breaking crap day in and day out due to birds nested code that they have no clue how to figure out.

Which I might ad is another reason they're likely to DROP SWG once 'Free Galaxies' is in beta. Fresh clean code (and much simpler in this case) is cheaper to maintain and much more profitable.

For being hands off of SWG, LA sure had a pretty big representation at Fan Faire this year for SWG ;)  There were around 6 LA people floating around the event and participating in some of the panels.

Man why do people still go to them SOE fanfaires?

    You ruined..

The rest of your games were never any good!

It's like : Why would you be an SOE fan anymore?

Because fan faire is a blast?  Honestly, I had a great time getting to meet people in RL that play the game, especially people I know from my server.  I'm sure I'll be back in the future :)

Bioware have made it clear they're making a Bioware game and not a copy of everyother mmorpg out there. So what Bioware do well is voice acting and making decisions so if you don't like previous Bioware games then you wont like swtor.

Tbh though the game couldn't possibly be any worse than SWG.

This is true , Bioware never fail to deliver. And they will deliver on gameplay which is what will ensure TOR succeeds. It's about time that a few MMOs had some real storyline and depth, sick of developers churning out Arena games under the guise of MMOs that fail near immediatley.

I have a friend who intentionally jumps constantly because he knows how much I loathe the animation. Still, if they adjusted the running animation back to its previous iteration (and didn't make characters jump by default when pressing the space bar), I'd be very happy. (I've finally reactivated my subscription just because I love Star Wars so much.)

Unfortunately, from what I have observed, it seems as if the most acerbic critics of TOR are the Star Wars fans themselves. I suppose that I naively hoped that people would be grateful that another MMO based on the Star Wars IP would be released by a renowned company such as Bioware.

Perhaps I thought that the most vehement opposition in relation to The Old Republic would be comprised of fans from "rival" MMOs --you know, the people who inundate the forums with "OMG tis sux!!11" on launch day, subsequently stating that they're returning to <insert MMO of choice here> which they tearfully left in hope that the new MMO would offer them a "fresh start" in a new game, but only now discovered that they wasted the remainder of their mother's credit card on a piece of garbage (even though they had plenty of time to play the open beta test) that will serve as a "drink coaster" --unless they purchased a digital copy, in which case they're suing for false advertising-- while they play <insert MMO of choice here> happily basking in the warm glow of the in-game sunlight, knowing that the newly released MMO must be "epic failz" since they personally didn't enjoy it.

Don't believe me? I bet TOR's forums will resemble the convoluted mess I described above on launch day, albeit without the hyperbole I utilized. Heh. (Although I HAVE heard the drink coaster and lawsuit lines a few times!)

(I know TOR won't be perfect, and that it may not be tailored to certain individuals'  play-styles, but that doesn't mean that I won't enjoy it. I've been wanting another Star Wars game that possesses actual depth in terms of a detailed storyline/plot for some time.)

But, then again, I'm a girl who actually enjoyed the Bounty Hunter game on the PS2, so I guess I'll have to rescind my previous statement about maintaining objectivity. The only Star Wars related games I haven't played are the Lego games for patently obvious reasons; The Force Unleashed because my 360 broke; and the hand-held games due to the fact that I prefer to have excellent graphics when playing action-based, offline games.

Yet most people will agree with me that they all suck now.

I just watched the "trooper" video from TOR, and wow:

What, your hips don't swivel like a turret when you're running around?

See the mobs warp through a wall and then magically reappear in front of the barrier?

If you ever thought WoW's human male carrot-ass run was bad...

Bioware have somehow regressed a decade in game development on an aesthetic level.

    See for yourself:

Oh and having a toon die during a demo.............................................. priceless

I must say that movement system inside of tor, its a big improvement over $WG's thanks for posting the link.

As far as dieing in a demo it beats not having an npc that's a key part of a quest show up.  also that was a known bug for a wile after that.

    But hey enjoy your game.

I am enjoying SWG, and you make sure you enjoy TOR.

Do you ever post anything original or just copy and paste other people's posts from f13.net?

I seem to remember the NGE being demo'd on national TV and Obi-Wan not spawning. I guess they must have fixed all the collision problems in SWG since you are complaining about alpha footage from TOR.

Lets not forget that SWG still has this type of bugs after 5+ years and this game is still in alpha/early beta. What is the big deal with dieing during the demo?

Because SWG's NPCs don't do the same (and worse)? And a Lava spewing gun is better?

Shirley (mean that), you are not talking about the Benny hill post NGE animations that were all but mostly removed for particle effects.

Because, you could not be meaning that.

It is really funny that there is a debate over the quality of character animations between a game that has been live for 6 years and game that is in pre-alpha state of development and most likely won't be released for well over a year.

It really is a great comparison, but I think the meaning is lost to the original poster.
