In an Interview at the GamesCom the Executive Producer said that the date for the Open Beta will be announced the next week. He did not specify further, but it sounded like the US and EU demo.
In spite of all the potential, the grind and the forced PvP are going to turn off a very large percentage of people looking to play this game. I'm sure they will limit the OB window in the hopes that the bulk of the players won't make it to the gank friendly zones during Open Beta.
Some people will enjoy the challenge of this game, but it's the least casual or PvE player friendly AAA title I can think of. I think box sales will be significant, but the large majority will leave the game with in the first three months (I wouldn't be surprised to see half leave after the first month), feeling once again dupped by MMORPG developers.
The sad thing is that if they hadn't decided to ignore the bulk of the Western player base, there were easy solutions available to them to cater to people who aren't fans of forced, griefer friendly PvP. They basically have looked at the West and said "We'll be happy to take your money for the game box, but we really don't care if most of you don't play beyond the first month".
I'm betting it will be very limited. In spite of all the potential, the grind and the forced PvP are going to turn off a very large percentage of people looking to play this game. I'm sure they will limit the OB window in the hopes that the bulk of the players won't make it to the gank friendly zones during Open Beta. You really need to get your facts straight before you post. After 1.5, there will be no grind (and I haven't experienced any yet before 1.5) unless you want to... and the same goes for PvP. It's possible to hit the level cap and never PvP if you don't want to. NCSoft hasn't promised anything that they're not providing.. unlike many other titles released these past couple of years. As a casual player who prefers PvE, I'm enjoying the game very much.. and am actually liking the PvP aspects. Totally untrue. They have consequences for people who try to grief and gank others. If it's not your type of game, find another... as there are many people here in the West who are well informed as to what Aion is and are looking forward to playing it.

With the game as polished as it has been in the closed beta's, the open beta will, as my other posters have said, very limited. Just long enough for those who haven't been able to beta play the game to get a feel for it.
Just a quick question: And I'll admit that I haven't put in the time to do my research before asking, and I apologise for this.
Is the Open Beta open to everyone, or only people who have pre-ordered the game? I'm considering giving Aion a try, but am too afraid to pre-order (Yeah, I'm poor. No need for anyone to point it out) incase I end up disliking the game and wasting my money. It'd be great to have, in a sense a free trial prior to the games release, so I can then decide wether to jump on the bandwagon and pre-order.
Anyway,
thanks in advance.

Always hating on instances in MMOs! Open worlds, open PvP, territory control and housing please. More persistence, more fun.
those who preordered had access to closed beta , so open beta = stress test everyone is in , even though after all this hipe i think they will limit the time when u can make an account , atleast i would , that to avoid making a fool of myself when my server crashed becouse of to manny ppl

Covers what my response to fiontar's original response would be. Those of us that have played Aion already know exactly what we are getting into. I have a feeling you've not tried the game out at all and just relied on inacurate information from various forums. I may be harder and require more dedicted gameplay but not all of us westerners like to 1 click our way to an end game in 2 weeks. It's nice to have a bit of a challenge for a change and get some enjoyment through envolvement within a game.

The word you are looking for is 'duped'.
For your blinkered information, NCSoft haven't 'duped' anyone. Anybody who wanted to check this game out could do so for little to no expense. If anything, NCSoft haven't done themselves justice by holding the CB on a client which is now obselete, and shows the game in its worst light.
Many, many of the annoying aspects of the game have been fixed in 1.2 and 1.5, including hundreds of new quests added to fill in the 'grinding' holes that were very apparant in 1.0.
The game is the most balanced of any I have yet played of a similar style - my first MMO was DAoC, through to AoC and Warhammer - and has content to suit virtually everyone. It is predominantly a PvPvE game, and handles this effect very well from what I have seen and experienced. New content is being included at a rate of knots, and our version will release with more content that any other rival has previously managed to match.
The game isn't WoW - it isn't log in and gain a level. It is challenging in both aspects of PvP and PvE, and skillful players will benefit, which is quite unusual in this genre since World of Warcraft soiled the shelves.
I agree that a certain amount of players who are used to the dumbed down garbage that is prevelant in today's offerings, will not last too long in Aion, but to me, this is one of the main reasons I will be playing it. If you are from WoW or similar, do yourselves a favour and stay there...

Yeah, having played the game, I'd say the majority of those statements are completely absurd. It isn't grind heavy at all, there are tons of quests - hell you can even level in the PvP zone; nobody is having to sit around for 3 hours and kill slimes. And PvP is rarely forced, if you stay out of the Abyss you will rarely see the other faction. Sure, you may get attacked from time to time but you won't get camped and when there is a rift the home race is usually quick to put together a retaliation force; its a lot of fun.
If there is another MMO out there that you enjoy and you love, there is nothing wrong with that - have fun! But if you are thinking of trying something new, you will likely thoroughly enjoy Aion, it is a polished, beautiful, exciting MMO and it's going to be around for a long time.

Well put. While this game is accesible to younger folks, it won't hold your hand like WoW. This is a big kids game, kiddies should stay home.
Nope, no more closed beta weekends, they are going to be doing an Open Beta. The big question is when and for how long, which is supposed to be announced sometime this week (hopefully today).

I bet open beta is a week before release.
Yeah. Open Betas these days are much more to generate PR rather than anything to do with QC.
I'm betting it will be very limited.
