My initial reaction to CO after reading these forums was that the game would suck donkeys, but I went ahead and tried it out this weekend anyway. I was pleasantly surprised! I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. I don't think I will end up playing it for years, but I'm seriously considering buying it now.

I can see it being fun for a few months, but definitely not worth a lifetime sub. That's especially true while we don't know how far they're going to take microtransactions.
In my opinion, it doesn't match Aion's production values (for the same sub cost). And Aion seems to run better on equivalent systems, as long as GameGuard doesn't crash something important or disable your anti-virus.
CO does have a different flavor if you want a break from the traditional MMO. I think they need to make sure that CO isn't too grindy. That's one thing that will set it apart from Aion (which is grindy). The raise in exp/level and respec costs isn't encouraging in this respect.
Not really worth a $15/month sub unless you're a fan of the genre, but the discounted 6-month sub is pretty appealing if you're not interested in the current alternatives. Other alternatives will be released later in 2010.

Kinda of funny its easily worth a life time sub. Aion on the other had is worthless to me. I would actually play a decent Pvp like Warhammer online that has substance in something other then pvp. If Aion was FtP like Alantica Online then I might think about downloading it when I have some downtime.
I dont see the problem or why thisis differnt than any other MMO release... I think this forum give a pretty good picture of the Pros and Cons of CO!
This forum has slowy for the last four years become nothing but a cess pool of constant negativity and hatred. Pretty much if you trust 100 percent what anyone says on any forum and use that 1 person's opinion to form your own..your an idiot (not directly insulting just stating a fact of life).

One reason I've stayed on these forums is because of its diversity, whereas usually on forums like the CO forums you have a great deal of people that are on that site because they are overly opinionated (most likely optimisticly) about the game. I have a large number of posts on the CO forums, both on the regular forums and the beta forums (now they merged though) but when it came time for me to write my review, I posted it here.
The reason I did this is because I wanted to put my experiences out to a number of people that are still on the fence about this game. I've been on these forums a while, and there are a vast number of posters that make up the notorious MMORPG.com trolling team, but if you can weed through the mundane, incomprehensible drivel written by those few, you can find a bustling and passionate community -- and those are the players I try to focus on when I five my thoughts on games such as CO.

Not at T4 it didn't. Up until then I'll agree PvP in Warhammer is a lot of fun and done pretty well. T4 least in the first six months of that game was an absolute cluster fuck. The biggest problem with wh outside of that was the PvE was terrible which isn't a problem with Aion ,least in my opinion, so to an extent his opinion is rather lol. That and the fact they added way too many goddamned servers.
Although it is unfair to infer Warhammer PvP is bad across the board because at earlier tiers Warhammer PvP is rather fun.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

With city raids its far from a Cluster..... T4 is probable some of the best. I even got to attack Altdorf. PvE was excellent. It had so much warhammer history it was uncanny. Aion on the other hand was pretty poor. No history what-so-ever.

Oh you guys actually pulled it off? Couldn't say how those go because every time someone got close on our server the goddamn server crashed and the PvE was rather weak especially the dungeons. Not to mention the amount of cc in T4 just gets to be absolutely ridiculous. Glad you liked it but both CO and Aion have better PvE than that game did as do may other games that came out before it. The only interesting concept they had was the public quests format but that ended up going to hell because they added so many servers so it became hard to find groups for it and most wouldn't even bother with PvE because frankly ti was lackluster and you could level so much faster by doing scenarios.
Anyways, not trying to derail the thread just saw those tidbits and felt I had to jump in hehe
As to CO I thought it was an alright game. Might check it out eventually after its been out for a bit. I wasn't real impressed but it certainly isn't a bad game by any means.

I am going to agree with wicked jelly. T4 is an acquired taste, everything leading up to it I found much more enjoyable... that was me personally, but I still stand by the fact the PvP was enjoyable.. moreso then some other games I have played.

LOL then you really haven't played in a long long long time. Either that or you listen to the haters here on MMO. Teir 4 was only empty because no one was on it. PQ were done wrong and still are becuase they needed to make it a big event. They added so many servers because so many people were playing but there wasn't enough RvR to have everyone playing. Scenerio's shouldn't of took center stage and now its not. Most wouldn't bother with PvE because you could get more exp in scenarios not because it was lackluster. Only the haters say that because it had so much history for Warhammer. If you think Aion has better PvE then I just have to laugh because you don't know jack.
Back to CO. Just talked the wife into getting the lifesub for both of us. Yep its that good of a game. Wished they would of done it for CoX. Would of saved me a ton of money.

Glad you like the game enough for a lifetime sub, I've already gone through just about the entirety of the content and it hasn't launched yet... I think I'll wait a little while before I make a decision on whether I should buy it or not.

What are you even talking about? I never said T4 was empty. I actually said quite the opposite in relation to that hence the reason our server always crashed when someone tried a run for the city. There's a reason they nerfed how many people can participate in the fortress sieges you know. I played for six months but you are correct it has been a while. That would be why I said for the six months after release because that was when I played and sorry but many games including Aion have better PvE than Warhammer and they did not need to add as many servers as they did. They went way overboard on that due to how pcaked a few servers were getting and ended up shooting themselves in the foot.

I played the CB and The Cell Shading and character creator was Awesome. But I did not like the game play or questing and there is not enough PVP options for me. So I will not be playing. Good luck to those that do. I want Cryptic to make Money.... to spend on STO ; ) lol
I don't buy MMO's at launch anymore! And I never ever buy a CE edition either anymore. What a waste of money (Mythic! Looking at you!!!)
This game is way too solo oriented and feels too disconnected with the heavy sharding. It will be really hard to build up a community in this game when you constantly have like dozens of instances of each zone.
This heavy sharding / instancing of each zone is what pretty much killed off DDO and turned it into Epic Fail! Guess people forgot about that. Because gameplay / content wise DDO was much much better then CO is right now.
Not to mention that this game feels really Arcade like. More of a console game, then a complex MMO.
And these last 2 days also show that they have some serious hardware and performance issues with this game! A game to be launched within 2 days (headstart) lol.
So nahh.... I keep on the fence for this one and watch how it goes the first months from a good distance!
Maybe when they do a free trial down the road I will have a look again.
I figured I'd throw my two cents in for anyone who's interested in the game.
For me, the cons were that it was too easy to just run through certain missions and die over and over with no penalty. I liked that the game let you get back into the action quick (I don't believe in downtime, that's just me), but this allowed me to slowly pick away at the mobs around certain bosses and then take the boss on one-on-one. Of course, this was also an entrance mission (to open up the Canadian Wilderness), so it makes sense. It did make the whole experience feel a little light though.
At first, the non-traditional gameplay had me a little displeased. I am used to traditional DPS/Tank/Healer/CC games. I realized that this game makes you fit those roles without forcing you to pick one. For example, in the final beta event I was with a group that actually wanted to work together. We had a Fire/Lightning hero do crowd control with knockbacks and electrocute while the softer mobs were worn down, then moved on to taking out the harder mobs all together (edit from altogether). We had a gadget work on healing (you can overload heal bots, which increases healing output but quickly depletes energy levels) when our tank got hit too hard, but he was able to bounce between heals and DPS as the situation allowed.
In the end, while the system may be a little unwieldy right now, seeing as how the game just got out of beta, I'm really excited at seeing the classless system evolve. There's a lot of room for over-powered/flavor-of-the-month debates, but with a system that places so much power in the users hands it's bound to happen. I like that the game made me feel like I was adapting to situations and solving problems as they came, instead of having to pick one traditional character and stick to one role. i liked the Druid in WoW because it gave me a choice, but then I had to spec a certain way and ended up becoming just a healer (or DPS after respec).
With CO, there's no pigeon-holing. You work with what you have and achieve your own success. I'm sure that when people start reaching end game content there will be huge variety in raid content strategies just because there's so much freedom. It seems like the one game that's willing to take a lot of chances by giving the players the freedom to decide for themselves how each character should be played while still forcing us to prove our worth to a group. Two characters in the same power set will be very different players, and hopefully the community won't stifle that freedom with the kind of stubborn, xp party bias that FF XI has.
In the last few days of open beta they have been fine tuning everything. I love the game the graphics. Yea sure it still has some minor bugs and I know that the devs will fix them. There are alot of ppl saying it is to easy or such and in my opinion it can be with certain builds. But concept characters may have it harder than the min max build. That should be expected in any game, especially with one that has so many powers and lets you pick and choose from them all.

I agree...and btw Nice Toon Sol!!!
I dont see the problem or why thisis differnt than any other MMO release...
I think this forum give a pretty good picture of the Pros and Cons of CO!
If WoW = The Beatles

Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

True, it's a good short term game.
He's not talking about the features of CO but about the community and he's right. MMORPG.com community is not reflective of CO's community.
Just an example, a quick browse of MMORPG.com LOTRO forums and one can easily see how its not reflective on the community of the game
really didn't like it..

With city raids its far from a Cluster..... T4 is probable some of the best. I even got to attack Altdorf. PvE was excellent. It had so much warhammer history it was uncanny. Aion on the other hand was pretty poor. No history what-so-ever.
Now, I also believe Aion isn't going to be anything special. However, your opinion there is just LOL. The words "Warhammer Online" and "decent PvP" should never go in the same sentence. And, to claim that Warhammer has other things to do besides PvP is Epic LOL.
Actually warhammer did have very good PvP, its a vast misconception on these forums that the average MMO can't muster up enough effort to put out any gameplay of meaning in an overpopulated dross of monotonous gameplay, but the fact of the matter is simply that warhammers gameplay is much better then most impudent posters give it credit for.
Not at T4 it didn't. Up until then I'll agree PvP in Warhammer is a lot of fun and done pretty well. T4 least in the first six months of that game was an absolute cluster fuck. The biggest problem with wh outside of that was the PvE was terrible which isn't a problem with Aion so to an extent his opinion is rather lol. That and the fact they added way too many goddamned servers.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
