Though they apparantly didn't test it in their closed beta yet, the crafting system in Mortal Online is supposed to be a sort of mini-game styled interactive crafting system with many different variables and materials you could build stuff with, as opposed to recipe based crafting.  Seems like the type of thing a crafter would like.

    FFXI

A very interactive crafting system. To the point the phase of the moon, the day, the weather, the time, and direction you are facing has effects on the outcome of what you craft.

This is very relevant to my interrests.  I tried so many games but none had good crafting and good gameplay.

If you like allot of crafting, try A Tale in the Desert.

It is not a fast paced game, but you craft everything in there.  The community is great and everyone helps you.  There is no monster killing or any of that.

The me who hears what the other me can't, is the dominant one.

I'd really like to like that game. But the controlls are just ass. Not bad but really ass. Otherwise it's a great game. but the controlls keep me from playing it.

FFXIV attempts to make crafting as important feature as battles are, so I'd say to keep your eye on that game if crafting is what you're looking for. You can supposedly get to the level cap only by crafting or gathering resources if you wish, but we don't have enough details about the system itself to know how fun or engaging it'll be.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

I second Vanguard. Crafting is a minigame, and though I only played the trial( for other reasons), it was my ideal crafting experience.

I am a heavily into crafting in any game I play.  Currently I am trying the open beta for Fallen Earth (ends 9/1 and launches on 9/8 for those who pre-order and 9/15 for the offical launch date).  I become bored easily if the crafting becomes too simplistic and/or repititous (like in WOW).  So far I am enjoying the crafting in Fallen Earth as it is multi-faceted and uses real-time so u can log off and still be crafting.  For example, it takes about a week to craft a car or a dune buggy and about a minute for a bandage.  From what I've read and been told by those who played SWG it is similar to the crafting in that game.   I recommend anyone who enjoys crafting to give Fallen Earth a shot.  I pre-ordered it and plan on finally dumping my WOW account.  Hopefully it will have enough subscriptions to keep it going.    We'll see!

Eve has the best crafting because you  just enable a workbench and you can leave it and just wait until it finishes

you shouldn't be forced to sit at a workbench doing lame minigames or stare at the wall

Vanguard also here too.  Can be hard and understand at first but you can make lots of stuff.  You can also make almost unique items with different setups.

I'm going to throw in another vote for Vanguard.  Deep and complex crafting system right there; as the others have mentioned, you'd want to pay attention to the tutorials or you'll get lost.  Once you get the hang of it, however...well I won't say it's smooth sailing, but at least you'll know how to sail. ;p

For example: You need to gather materials, then you need to prep those materials.  Say, if you harvest wood, you then need to craft it into usable planks.  Then you need to create individual components for your desired end-product.  Then you need to combine those individual components until finally you reach a point where you combine them into a usable product.  The length of this entire process depends on the complexity of the item you're creating.

Creating a spear requires far less than, say, creating a ship.  Further, throughout this process, as you craft each component/item/etc., you will have to balance how much you devote to each step to acquire the desired level of item quality while still finishing that step.  To further complicate matters, various complications will arise and you will need to decide whether they are worth correcting or not (because they have an effect on the crafting process as well).

Crafting in VG is a thinking and strategy game unto itself.  As you gain personal experience (not character, necessarily, although that definitely plays a part in overall success) you'll learn what complications are best to fix sooner rather than later, how far you can push your character in each particular crafting step, etc.

i'd go for fallen earth... it's got a decent crafting system and nice graphics :)

even if it's still a bit 'unpolished' - i think after release and some new patches, it will be a really good mmo.

I would highly recommend Everquest 2, it has a great interactive crafting system.  Its not free but it has  14 day free trial, you should definitely try it out.

Yeah I think it's gonna be really fun and interesting crafting system.    It'll be nice to actually learn recipes that are useful and not be made obsolete by a 'drop' in an instance from a boss.  A lot have complained about the graphics but they have a good feel for the game and fit in with the storyline well imho.

I would check out Mortal Online for the crafting when it is out. It is currently not fully implemented, but they are having player housing (which you have to ACTIVELY BUILD at the site)

I tried Istaria, but at this point it is pretty dated, the controls really drove me nuts.

Vanguard is a pretty deep game, but again, the controls and interface drove me nuts.

SWG has awesome crafting, but if you know what you are doing you could get to max level in a week or two. I recently returned to SWG for a couple of months, and had my fun, but be prepared to deal with an economy that is OUT OF CONTROL.
