Anyone find any larger dungeons ?

I like Dungeon crawling with a group for many hours.  This to me is why I play mmo's. This is where I make friends.  I love to be in bad situations and working together with a group to figure out how to kill the main boss. I like to say Yessss we did it after 4 hours and maybe gain a level, and have a lot of loot !!

Up to level 14 I had found several mini dungeons made for two players that last 5 min or so.

Are their any Dungeons ?

Not many people have reached "end-game" yet, especially given the short Open Beta. If you're wary, I'd wait a couple of weeks/months after release to see reviews from people who've reached max level and have seen what it has to offer. Lairs, though, are fun.

Well I poked my head into Dr. Destroyer's Factory, one of three (that I know of) 5-person instances. I was 40 and it was 28, so it was solo-able except for the part that strictly wasn't (need to do 2-3 things at once). Had I found it sooner I would have recruited a team to try it, but I just didn't have the energy to care that much.

Assuming there's more in the closed-off zones of Monster Island and Lemuria, I suppose there's stuff to do. But it bothers me that teaming doesn't fit into the reat of the game, like at all.

It seems to me that in CO (and all WoW clones, and thus apparently MMO from now on), teaming goes like this

"Hi, I see 3 of us are all waiting for this guy to respawn. Want to team up to share credit"?
    20 seconds later
"That was easy. Thanks for the team."

And that excludes the many times when they're actually in the area for something else, and either just did that quest or aren't qualified to get it yet.

It's pathetic. The only time you really team up is to do some limited content designed specifically to force a team up. I don't think there's enough of that, and it isn't that special.

p.s. Apparently the enemies in these instances drop loot at the same rate as ones outside, so fulfilling quests and experiencing the content are really the reasons to do it. They therefore aren't farm-worthy, though whether that's good or bad is up to you.

    Thanks Amarsir,

I'm afraid that's what I was expecting.  To make an mmo they must need unlimited funding, like as in unreal funding.  It's too bad as Champions Online is a good game but just too shallow for now.  The intriguing powers are nice but that would only carry me so far ( About 3 weeks ) and this game would be sitting on my shelf with the rest.

With 100 people zones, I could only assume that :

    1) can't make any real long lasting friends

    2) can't have much of a social hub

    3) getting together with a group in a guild would be a nightmare

    4) limited spamming in chat for groups

Some games do get better after time, unfortunately they loose their players. Best thing Cryptic Studios could do is to shut off the mmo feature, sell it for $49 a box, and call it a single player game.

On to the next for me :(

    1) can't make any real long lasting friends

I think you may be overlooking the BIG detail about the game having only one server. You make lasting friends because you won't find out that your real life friends are on a different server. When you select a zone it will show you exactly how many friends are in each zone. It even favors the zones with your friends in it, so it automatically clusters you with friends.

You friends list is based on their account rather than their character. You won't lose touch with a friend just because they are on an alt or changed mains.

    2) can't have much of a social hub

The Powerhouses are great social hubs. Instance entrances will always be social hubs in any game. I see people having parties in Club Caprice all the time.

    3) getting together with a group in a guild would be a nightmare

Why do you say that? You can see how many teammates, friends, and SG members are in each zone. Finding them is a breeze.

    4) limited spamming in chat for groups

I have no idea what you mean. Does it bother you that players on a different server can't hear your server's zone chat? How is this any different?

Also, its only 100 players per zone to prevent camping and crowding. It will be higher once players get to higher levels and spread out across the zones. Maybe 200 or so. There will always be plenty of players around just like every other MMOG on the market.

The end game in CO uses the UNITY system which is all instances that scale to your group size. It will make for some excellent group content.

wow, ok... The last post touched most of what I would say about how easy it is, but I think you are really off-base. Would you say that you can't make friends in WAR because when you spam in /1 in Inevitable City, they can't hear you in reikland? Would you say that you can't make friends in wow because if you talk in thousand needles they can't hear you in barrens chat? Every game I can think of, most chat is limited to your zone. Also, different areas have different limits. The desert and canada crisis each have 50 limit. MC has 100. I think the desert and canada had 200, unless they lowered it. I KNOW both MI and lemuria are higher... But why would you need higher?

Also, he said that at lvl 40 he was able to solo the lvl 28 dungeon up till the point where he absolutely HAD to have a group, and he didn't try any of the higher level dungeons or end-game dungeons at all. Not sure how that was "what you were afraid of" unless you were afraid that you wouldn't be able to solo lower lvl dungeons when you hit max level...

I wholeheartedly agree with everything this man says. The only thing that limits the making of friends in this game is the individuals, the actual game itself goes out of it's way to make sure you can keep in touch with people.

Every MMO is not a WoW Clone.  How is a game with no set character classes a WoW clone?  WoW required a healer and tank combo for every bit group content.  Now I haven't tried any of the end game group content, but I don't get the feeling that a tank/healer combo are going to be absolutely required.

I do agree with your teaming conclusion, at least for the lower level stuff.  Again, haven't made it into end game content but I suspect that you are correct.

Although if you really wanted to, I'm sure you could put together a Super Team with people who actually liked grouping.

    Stop crying in my beer.

I will add a few more things:

1 - the zone you are in may be limited to 100 or 200 or whatever people. But remember that devs can raise this limit. It will depend on things like lag, zone size (so you dont have people fighting over respawns). Its more than likely they will set it to 100 on release and after one month or so raise it to 200.

1.1 - Average MMORPG dont usually have too many people on the same area. You may be thinking that a game with 300.000 subs would have thousands on a given place. But you need to split that in several servers. Then check how many are online at the same time. Split it again on the several zones. In the end the number of people close by is quite small.

1.2 - one server: no matter if there are 200 lvl 40 online or 10.000 lvl 40 online. Its easy to find them.

1.3 - one server: one big problem that MMORPGS have as they get older is that the starting areas become dead zones. Its hard to find people to play with, to team up, to socialize. CO has a big advantage here. Lets say that on a given day there are only 50 lvl 20 people online. If the game had 10 servers, that would put about 5 people on each server. In CO they will be all in the same zone. They will be together.

2 - is it hard to find/form a group because they cant see your zone chat? Lets see:

2.1 - there are global channels (user made). Join a left for group channel, a chat channel, a rp channel, a <whatever> channel. You will be able to chat with everyone in the game that is on that channel, regardless of where they are!

2.2 - group search UI -> you can filter for people looking for a group, groups looking for more people, level, etc. Its server wide. If someone is level 20 and that hero is in MC and you would like to invite him to your Desert group, no problem! He will show up on the search window! Just invite him and he will be there in a few minutes.

2.3 - traveling: even with large zones as MC traveling doesnt take too long. Its easier to gather for a instance/quest, as you wont have to wait 15min, 30min, ... for someone to travel to you. Travel powers ftw!

3 - long time friends: as it was mentioned above CO uses a global name system. Your hero shows up like this: <hero name>@<;global name> . No matter if you are playing alt1, alt2, alt3... you will still show up on friend list, when you talk in chat people will see that its you.

3.1 - sidekick system: but if my friend is playing a alt level 20 and I am on my level 30? No problem, if you guys want to play together, just use the sk system.

4 - getting together with your group/ guild group is a nightmare. Wrong. Lets say you just formed a 5-man group in MC and everyone is in a different zone. Easy. Everyone but the leader hits <M> key to open the map. There is a button there that says: "Change Instance". Click it. Voila La. You just joined the team leader zone.

4.1 - how do I know if my teammates are on my zone? People on different zones shows that info on the team UI. It says the name of the hero and where he is! Easy as that, no need to ask, type, search... just look at the Team UI (same place where you see theirs health bar, energy bar...)

    my 2 cents
