Do Not Come Back To EQ2

Matt_UKMatt_UK Member Posts: 420

A warning to anyone thinking of returning. Don't! This game is massively unstable and unreliable, you will not be able to log in every day whenever you want to play, zones will crash the game on you, it will take days to download patches and if you're running Vista you will need to fiddle with countless files. A complete mess of a game... oh yeah and despite servers saying FULL (Antonia Bayle) they are deserted.

I played EQII from launch and really enjoyed it, high fantasy at its best. I left for other games later but returned a couple more times. Now though it is absolutely dreadful, nothing to do with the gameplay, all down to the customer service and reliability. Don't take my word for it though, the net is full of problems associated with my experiences over the last few days.

A real shame but i refuse to pay for a game i can't play. Cancelling when month is out. Goodbye EQII, i advise anyone considering going back to find something else to play.

Geez, don't know who or what pissed you off in game, but this game has never had the instability that you claim it's had except for when it was first released.  Nice Try.

Maybe you need a new PC? Seriously EQ2 is not that bad despite my hate for anything SOE since they screwed up SWG for me but thats the forgotten past. I think EQ2 is still the best pve game out there. There is a trial, no offense to the OP but try it out, wether you agree with him or not. I still play this game, I recommened Antonia Bayle server. It's the most populated of all, maybe not in the newbie zones but the player base is pretty helpful. I play in Antonia Bayle, send me a tell if anyone want to try this game and need help.

Ummm its Sony!! LOL It took you this long to figure it out? I feel abit sorry for your waited time and the money you put into their pockets... I left EQ2 as soon as I saw them putting out "adventure packs" that we had to buy to play. That to me was enough to leave EQ2 and never look back. I won't play another Sony game in my lifetime or Turbine (now that I've seen what Turbine did with Moria).

Ncsoft is my baby. IMO they are the most original and trustworthy mmo company out there right now. GW1 was and stil is killer and GW2 is going to hit the mmo scene huge, bringing in alot of gamers who continue to say GW1 sucks. Now Aions hitting shelves soon? Hell ya!

All the big gaming companys now have some competion....its about time!! :-)

Like i said nothing ingame has pissed me off and this game was fine on release as i said. I also bought a new PC a couple of months back and my ISP runs AoC, LOTRO etc... with no problems on full spec in DX10. It's a thousand times better than the machine i originally played EQII on. I can run the game on full spec no problems, no lag or chopping at all. It's just connection and stability that's the problem and you're right Ethian i should have known better, i've played EQ and SWG so i know Sony of old. Just gobsmacked how bad the performance of their servers and their tech is.

I agree, try the trial, but don't subscribe. I also agree the ingame community has always been fantastic. No problems with anyone in game, just tech issues.

I have to say I have to disagree on the part about EQ2 being the best PVE game out there.. I think EQ1 still holds that... 1. They have more active players than EQ2 still to this day. 2 they have more content as well.

Also think Vanguard really overall is a better game to play than EQ2 will ever be...

Right now Aion and GW2 is also looking very promising.

Well Aion is geared more towards PvP and GW2 is not coming out till next year. When SW:TOR comes out it should be the pve game to play. I played Vanguard at beta and the first few months at release but it's just a defeated game. I loved my Caravel and how the housing is set up but any game that didnt have a good launch I dont consider, they prolly have less than 40k subs in the 3 servers left standing. The original EQ I also played, it's still decent but it's a 10 year old game, graphics for most players are just not up to par.

I've been playing EQ2 on and off for years, no 1 single problem and when I went over to Vista all I had to do was start the game with admin rights, and it works perfectly well with just 1 click of the icon.

Currently playing it while waiting for CO to release along with a friend of mine who has taken a break from WoW and he has had no issues either.

Then again I'm not surprised some ppl encounter issues, MMO's are not the most stable of games, just check the forums and you will see the exact same issues countless times for every other MMO out there, maybe you haven't had those issues but others would have.

Phew i expected to get flamed for my OP. Thanks for being so constructive everyone. Ok, after not being able to log on today i've uninstalled and gone for a full reinstall. Here's hoping. If i can get on consistantly then i will stick with it. I agree with some posters that many have no problems at all with EQII (a mate of mine for one)

I do still like the game itself, for me it remains the closest to my idea of fantasy (even more so that LOTRO in some respects). Say hello if you're on AB, my characters are Eldoric and Raskar. If i manage to get connected tomorrow.

I had a good LOL at this comment.  I started in MMO on those two a few years ago but have moved on.

Recently a friend and I decided to go back and check EQ1 and 2 out for fun since we got free trials.  I could not believe how  these games, that we used to think were better than sliced bread, have deteriorated in population and in relative quality compared to newer games.

No offense to EQ players intended.  But EQ1 the best PVE ATM???  ROFLMAO.  It used to be a long time ago when there was no competition.

{mod edit} Just because you're having issues doesn't mean others are. The game runs fine on my computer, it never drops, and its never stopped being fun. The community is the best I've ever seen.

If you don't like it, then leave, but your computer is the problem, nothing else.

wow thats too funny...  EQ2 is rock solid for me and everyone in my guild.  I'd say your problem is you must have a computer problem.  I can't even remember a time when eq2 crashed or I couldn't log in and I've been playing it pretty regular for over a year.

Its a SOE game.. Sony crapovsky and that says it all.. dont put cash into their pockets :p

Aion, AoC, AC, AO, DDO, Eve, Eq2, GW, MW3, L1&2, RF, RIFT, SWG, SWTOR, TR, UO, WOW, WAR
  • Although I am not currently playing eq2, I have been playing it many times through out the years since launch, I can never rememer it being unstable or having much downtime, not even at launch. If what you say is true, everyone would have the problem and nobody would play. But crious enough that is not the case.

So hahaha wtf are you trying to do here? Fair enough if you dont like the game, but try to keep to the facts. No offence.

I played EQ2 at launch.  Back THEN, it was unstable and prone to server-side crashes.  The infamous Christmas 3-day rollback should be proof enough of that.  However, every time I've returned to the game since then, it has indeed been rock-solid, both client and server.

It's a very different game than it was at launch, to be sure.  I happen to like *most* of the changes they've been making, although I do wish they hadn't dumbed the crafting system down quite so hard... and that "Station Cash" crap is an insult... but overall, I'd resubscribe if I wasn't playing anything else right now.

I too, have been critical of SOE in the past, but looking back honestly, it's really only the bad decisions they made with respect to that science-fiction MMO which I shall avoid naming that caused me to blacklist them for years.  MMO's evolve, or they die.  If you don't like the direction your game is headed, find another one.

Still sitting on a 9hr wait for patches after a day. No other mmo is like this. A joke.

    Advice is to use :

    http://forums.station.sony.com/station/forums/show.m?forum_id=200

    Download : http://launcher.station.sony.com/update/StationLauncher_setup.exe

This should shorten the download a bit,

i myself am always done in about 1-2h (Whole game downloaded through the installer)

    * But others have different setups / speeds or use wireless etc.

    Greetings,

    Ortahr.

I have been playing since beta and have never had any problems (currently running vista 64 with no fiddling).

I also play on the Permaforst sever and it is a very active server.

Kind of ironic. The issues you described seem more indicative to when the game first came out than how the game is now.
