Is it just me or did this game play and feel a lot like CoH.

I just cannot get over the feel of this game.   It's as if Cryptic looked at CoH and said OK how could we have made CoH better and that is all they basically did.    I swear some of the buildings and such were ripped right out of CoH and touched up here and there.    Sure the graphics are nicer and more fluid, but I just felt it was CoH with a graphics overhaul and game play.   Combat was better in CoH in my opinion.    Personally I feel CoH was the better game of the two though because it just felt more epic.   Some of the stuff they did in CO just didn't feel the same way.     Some people will no doubt like what Cryptic hs done and like the direction they are going with CO, but I just could not connect with it at all the way I did with CoH.    I think this will be a good game, but it will be a niche game and not draw in overly large number of players.    Because just like CoH there is not enough here to hold a player for months and months of game play.   It is fresh and new and I think that will be what gets people to play the game at first, but I think they'll see that this game like CoH is just to shallow and not all that deep.   It's fun to bash the baddies and what not, but you can only run the same looking and feeling missions so many times before you get bored and start wishing for something more.

It's just the original version of CoH.

Anyone remember the original alpha/beta client before Cryptic reworked the powers and game mechanics to what Coh is today?

They've changed things, but it's very very similar to that original client.

I like this game more if simply because NO MORE REPETITIVE INSTANCED MISSIONS.  CoH had its moments but c'mon, that was the WORST game design I've ever seen - run into the same five maps and kill the same exact number of mobs over and over?  Jesus.  At least this game has more outdoor missions where you see other players.  To me that is a big difference.

Also I think combat is more exciting in CO.  It needs more polish though.  I have no problem with Cyrptic making City of Heroes 2 and calling it whatever they feel like.

I agree with your overall assestment it is very shallow. But the depth comes with making the unique looking heroes. Theres a depth of creativity here that I think is unmatched. I'm enjoying it much more so then city of heroes

CoH always sent me inside of a crapped cave or warehouse from L1->50. Was really lame we couldnt use our travel powers inside of them well

In this game the PVE level designers took a step back and gave it thought. "How can we improve the experience? How can we get these guys to casually team?"

and they pulled it off. When i go to kill a boss i look around me and invite everyone to group. And people do! Granted they leave afterwards but blah thats current MMO crowds for ya

But finally formed a good group later and make good friends. And they game shot up another level

Then the open beta end event was amazing with heroes floating around figjhting destroids. sure, CoH had some city invasion events too that were cool. But here it was even better for me cause the costumes just look so much better too me. And the concept builds are just really wicked

Saw a guy called 'COSMIC FORCE' last night and man he looked so cool!

I really like this Open PVE approach though. However, it is harder to make great xp in groups cause u cant jack up the difficulty likein CoX.

So we missing that major feature so hopefully they have dsome dungeons

The pvp seems rather thoughtless though. Its a step down from CoV expansion major. Albeit, pvp wasnt strong in that either. But worse now for sure. Feature wise we missing some effort here. But I like that im not held for ten mins straight here and i can get out of holds. CoX just sucked pvp combat wise. Here, pvp combat is cool but the Levels suck and missing the base raids

Loving the open class system. I made a really cool L40 build last night :) Could be a little better but much more fluid than CoH by miles (FOR ME)

Combat system really awesome though. I like the active blocking system, etc. And it looks hella sexy when you get a nice block power like Force shield.

Just high marks for PVE. low marks for PVP :(

Open Class system = We are lazy and don't feel like making classes, so here's all the powers in the game.   Make your own class.

The overall game is somewhat limited right now so i have to keep telling myself that they will update it with a similar frequency as they did with CoH. What is there right now i am having lots of with and the endless skill combinations alone will keep me happy until the 6 month mark comes around.

It is very similar to CoH but ive been looking for a game like that for a long time, never found one and always kept going back and resubbing for a few months.

Open class system gives players freedom to make their own superhero its a no brainer for this genre. DC Online will also be classless.

Ironic you called them 'lazy' in this regard I think you need to spend some 'effort' and do more research. Nice troll there though

Well condisering that it is the same developers who made CoH in the first place, i wonder how you got that feeling.

Basically it's an updated version of CoH with different power-ups.

It does feel alot like CoH and that is what i like about CO. CoH's potential were immense but due to the known problems they didnt and will not be reached. But CO is taking that step, because they understood that CoH was what people want and they know how we want it. I suppose if they jump on the train at lauch with a few updates, expansions this can be CoH Extra Special.

I disagree, and people have been begging for an open class system for a long time.  You may have a point BUT - every other game on the market has a class-based system, except maybe 2?  So the fact that CO is being different gives it points in my book.

And I like it.  The possibilities are extreme and some of us have more creative character designs than "Ice man" or "fire man" or "strong guy."  Maybe my hero knows a couple spells but dropped out of magic school because he likes to swing a sword, and he found a super robot suit of armor two years later.

The possibilities for superhero creation are vast and near endless. I saw people were making Jedi/sith. I mean all the force powers u could dream of I believe is here. Even the chokes. And you can get replacers to give energy sword looks

I saw a Storm character and she looked just like her.

You'll see a sword & guns hero here. wasnt possible in CoX. Was just too restrictive

you can make a 'Last Avatar' hero here easily.

Saw a bunch of Dragonball Z guys. And they had all the powers the dbz guys would have. Was totally wicked

Think I saw a Brolly guy and saw SSVegeta fighting haha

some guy looked like he was out of Fallout 3

The creativity here is insane. They took they basic formula they had in CoH and expanded on bigtime

    It's just you.
