Would hook a lot of subs I think over time. Kind of a different angle on the free-trial. A given % of people are going to want to try the heroes they make.
I dunno did this work out that way for Spore? I think some said they felt like they did not need to buy the game as it was the best part anyway. But then again people say crap like that all the time and then still buy the game. And then you are like WTF you said you didn't need it then they shrug and you tell em they are a wish washy dumbass.
But as a sidenote you can save files that have the entire costume setup and then load it. So it would make sense to have it offline so you can simply save the file and load it at the tailor or whatever. So basically half the work is already done as far as making an offline version useful and having a point of people who play as well.

Haha... I mean.... hahaha... Thanks for that one. Gotta love it, you just got carried away there.
Hey, it's human nature, don't hate them - shrug back!
On-topic edit: I think the OP is a pretty good idea myself.

Similar to what spore did eh?
NOt a bad idea, but I wager cryptic doesnt want to do it at release. They want people to buy the game, and making new heros is half the fun
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)

Well, hopefully that wouldn't be the case for CO. If it is then CO's got a lot more to worry about anyway.
