its setup like guild wars all zones are instanced. not like its one big server for everone.
Thats the same thing dude..its techincally 1 server (or rather 1 server thats made up of clusters of servers) that are dynamically controlled. You don't Pick a Server like in WoW and your not limited / cut off. Its basically a REgionless Server thats broken up into zones and instances of zones depending on the population. Its basically 1 big server for everyone. Thats how Eve Works as well except Eve doesn't instance off its Zones it simply lets you die of lag.
Im sure guild wars does this too but in CO you can see which instance of a zone your team, guild, or friends are in and how many people are in each one so you can pick either a close to full or a nearly empty one.
Basically your not caged in by server or region like a older MMOs (wow, eq, eq, vanguard).

sorta... unlike Guild wars, the area you are playing in isn't just your group... each "shard" hold 100 players.
There are group only instanced missions too... but that is besides the point.
