Does It Get Better?

DrWalnutDrWalnut Member CommonPosts: 133

I betaed the game but only got up to level 5. What I did play felt very sloppy and unfun. My character was a Force character with only the first couple of skills in that line. I want to know if when the headstart starts up tomorrow should I keep playing the game(though this time I think I'll go Might)? Does the game eventually get much better than the tutorial stuff? Does it get any more fun than what it was for me when I start really climbing the levels? Thanks.

Slightly, but not really. You'll get better powers, a nemesis, and access to better PvP arenas as you level up. In the end, though, it is just more of the same. That means it is good for a diversion, but it won't keep players' interests for long.

I really don't understand why people will question this when it felt sloppy and not fun. Usually that's a sign it's not the game for you.

    I agree.

    I agree.

There is a bit of a learning curve to any game and they aren't as much fun while you're learning things as they are after you've learned them. The OP didn't say WHY he thought it was unfun. Maybe he just didn't like to read all the info-text on the NPC's... Maybe he is coming from playing an "end game" character in another game that already has 10+ powers and two felt limited...

Maybe it isn't a game for him, but there isn't quite enough info to say if that is the case or not. If he only ever played to level 5 then that is not representative of the gameplay at level 10+.

I can only speak for myself, but yeah...it get better.

If you found it to be unfun, thats cool...maybe its not the game for you. The game dosent really finish the tutorials till like lvl 7 or 8, then you get into it. Or more of it.

The missions get a bit harder, but more of the same. Kinda like WoW. Kill 5 of this, get 10 of that. So on.

You do get a travel power at like 5, so that makes getting from point a to point b easier. I liked Flight the best, but there were better travel powers. A few much faster than regular flight.

PvP, wihc is my son loves is kinda cool, the cage matches not so much but at higher levels you get into different matches. Even one thats a FFA PvP. Not my thing but it can be fun to others.

Sorry you didnt find it fun, theres a few games out that might suit you more...Good Luck.

     Dax.

I don't know about you, but anytime a game felt "sloppy" if it be gameplay or the layout (UI, skills etc) it's usually a sign that's not going to change. I played the game up to level 12 and felt it was not the game for me, and I came to that conclusion because it felt to cookie cutter etc. Even though the "fun" factor may change later on. I see no point in playing a game that starts off boring. And kicks off half way through.

Its cool and all if that is the case, but maybe it felt sloppy because he needed to adjust his video options or press tab instead of click targeting stuff. There are numerous possible causes so who knows? UI's always take some getting used to. We can't expect every game to behave EXACTLY like WoW (or whatever your current game of choice may be).

That's true possible it's his video settings. And you're right we kinda need more info about what was sloppy and lacked fun. And for what its worth, I was fine with the UI. My biggest problem was I felt almost no difference in some of the builds I tried. I'm sure it changes later. But I enjoy feeling a little unique almost from the start. And the heavy instancing didn't help, but I understand its purpose. Not to mention load screens.

I'd say leave tutorial area and get your first travel power int he Powerhouse. Also, give yourself time to adjust to combat system. Learn how to use the chargeup attack etc

Force is a great powerset though. I'm going to go that route on my main tomorrow for my Dragonball Z hero and mix it up with martial arts, flight, and Teleport

He's gonna pwn. I already had played around with his build in the beta and feel in loveeee

I also started with Force.  Looking at some of the others I tried - Force is a little boring in comparison.

    gets better later on though.

Agree with Torgin though.  It's a fun diversion game - but I doubt it will hold subscribers too long.

    1-2 months for most people.

I think subscription is the wrong approach to this game.

I think people will happily pay for the first month and feel they got good value for money but after that they will be 'finished' and people won't want to pay a monthly sub to grind.

After 1-2 months people will look at that and unsub.  They may return when more content is added if their Toons are 'saved'.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

Nope, eventually the game de-evolves into pong... with only one paddle.... and no ball.

Alright, I've decided to try the game again and get to at least 10. Can anyone recommend a "fun" power set to start with? I was thinking about going Might but the main thing about powers for me is fun.

  • Well you should:

    a) get to level 10

    b) experiment with the interface control options

Level 5 is pretty basic just like any other MMO, there is definitely more to energy management is staying alive than level 5 shows (or even level 14).  I personally play in First person shooter mode and really hate the "MMO  controls".

I can't say much more than that as I have no idea why the OP reacted as they did.  If it feels shallow and sloppy then don't play simple as that.  But I can say that I do not like playing this game with auto-target MMO mechanics, its doable but not nearly as fun.  I use the shooter interface that locks your target/look to mouse movement when you right click.

I have a dual blades COh scrapper and a did a Dual blades CO MA character and this interaface makes lining up short range cones so much more fun  but I also like it for the mobility for ranged charaters etc.  Only problem is I can't see status effects as  idon't get a standard target display.  Also this interface puts energy builder as your left mouse button, which makes it way better as I can interlace energy building with real attacks much better and easier.  Energy builder should not be a hot button IMO.   That is not the way it works.

    Edit:

I  want to elaborate on the energy builder thing.  Some people call it Auto-attack (even the game does).  Energy Builder IS NOT AUTO ATTACK.   It is something you may need to sustain, but its main function is not exactly damage, although it can do damage.  Energy Builder is for energy you need to use it strategically, it can also buff you with certian things like a focused state or whatever,  it is something you will need to interweave in various ways depending on your usage and your power needs.  And how long you sustain it will depend but it is likely to be used often especially if you are melee based.  You may set it up do some extra damage or it may suck for damage.  It is not WoW Auto attack or even EQ2 auto attack.  WoW auto goes on no matter what,  EQ2 auto attack happen automatically but gets interuppted by special attacks, it can be a significant portion of your damage.  You can toggle your energy builder on if you like and make it automatic but then you get things like animation delays and annying sloppy interuptions.

The energy builder is not Auto attack.  It is extremely important but not for damage and using it as auto-attack while possible is not necessarily a good idea.  Use it strategically.  Keeping in mind also there are other ways to get energy like the Sorcery golem or the Martial arts momentum or the various buffs/passives or Ego leech etc.

Keeping it on auto can impose animation delays on you if you want to chain attacks.  Yet at the same time you may need to sustain it for a few seconds this is why I have it on the left mouse button (default for shooter controls).  It is neither a true auto-attack nor something that may work all that well as a hot button.
