Concerned about spcs

Hi all. I've been lookinh forward to this game for a long time, as I loved City of Heroes. I always just assumed since the game is an MMO and with it's style of graphics that it would have no problems running on my laptop. I have heard the game is running terribly for people who have better video card than myself. I'm very worried now.

I have a DELL XPS M1730. Vista 32-bit

4GB Ram.

Intel Core Duo T7800 @ 2.60GHz, 2.60 GHz

2 Display adapters =

NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT

SLI technology

I think thats all the important stuff. Think the game will run okay? Any help is greatly appreciated. Age of Conan runs fairly decent on medium to high settings. Though all MMO's vary drastically as you all know.

Truth is, you don't know until you log in to the game and try it out. My specs are at least double yours and I get movement lag and FPS loss. It's a terribly optimized game engine and the graphics don't warrant the strain it puts on your system.

Hmm, so a terribly optimized engine you say? Ok cheers for the info. Somehow I have the feeling it's going to be one of those games that simply runs awful on my machine. Just sucks that it happens to be one of the games I was most looking forward too. Guess I am going to pass then. Even though I have the money to afford it, I will only be more devastated if I buy it, then realise it's going to run poorly forever. Better off never finding out at all I guess.

ugh, i was gonna suggest the open beta, but that just ended for the most part :/ best bet is to hope that they release a free trial or look around for a buddy key somehow.  i like the power types and the customization as well as the travel powers here vs what CoH/Villians offered. but i was sort of hoping for some Darkness themed melee. not happening so much here lol,  im an mmo addict but i may have to hold off on CO for a month or two and watch. just to be safe.

id say if you come across a way try and sample the game though, its not really bad  by ne means.

ive found from experience (i have a sager 9262 with sli 8800 gtx laptop) that most of the graphics lag comes from sli incompatability in the game software.  if ild known it was gonna get this bad ild have not gotten the sli but se la vie.  anyway make sure your drivers are the current best wqhl from nvidia themselves and then tinker with the sli mode settings in the control panel specific to the game itself, try recommended and then force renderings and if all else fails tell it to run off just 1 of the cards and see which mode gives you the best frames performance, had to finagle alot with aoc back in the day, man that game hated every other version of drivers.  cheers mate.

I wouldn't say the game is poorly optimized it just tends not to like certain builds.   I have an Pentium D 3.4 GHz with 2 Gigs of Ram and a 8600 and the game runs just fine for me.  I run the game at decent settings too.   At work I have a 9800 and all the fixings and the game runs uber excellent really I dont see why your set up would have a problem.   Most of my friends have set ups similiar to my work pc or Better and have no issues so really it seems to be a small few that are having issues...and alot of them seem to center around Vista users.  Hell my one friend has a Series 7 card and a Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of ram and the game runs just fine for her too.   I think your sort of Jumping to conclusions without any real information OP.

You really shoudl check the official forum boards and take a look at recent Tech Posts if your that paranoid the game wont run.  Honestly though if you can run AoC or Everquest 2 or any high res game you should be fine.

Well thanks heaps for the replies guys. It is all much appreciated. Yeah I'm just being paranoid as everyone, including myself has had so many random experiences when it comes to MMO's and performance. For example Everquest 2 runs poorly and crashes 24/7 on my desktop which exceeds recommended specs. But it runs flawlessly on max settings on my laptop. Pretty much every MMO runs really well on high setting on this laptop, aside from Vanguard which varies a lot and with Age of Conan I have to put some settings on medium.

Hmmm, I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy the game from Direct2drive. Even if it does not go well, at least I'm not paying full price for it. I'm going to have faith and hope that it works. Thanks again guys. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey again. Just had a question. I just bought the game from Direct2drive. It gave me a pre-order code for the open beta ( I know it's over) and it's allowing me to download the game. Just wondering for all who have also done this, when I recieve my full retial key on release day, will I have to download the entire game again?? Or will this one I have be okay. Stupid question I know but I have never bought a download copy for an mmo before.

Your crashing problems with EQ2 are either SLI related or Vista Related.  Vista if its not Professional or 64bit seems to be the devil itsself to some people and SLI isn't fully supported by alot of games I'm not even sure why people bother so much with it.

instead of speculating, try searching the system req's! the minimum req is accurate if you play the game on low settings and you shut down background tasks on your OS that you dont need, tested myself on my Dell Inspiron.

If you do decide to play Champions Online.  The one main thing that I would sugest is to go into the games video screen and turn off the comic outline function that puts on outline around your and others toons.  I found that by doing this to greatly inprove the performance of the game.

Of course I check the system requirements before I consider buying a game buddy. They give you an idea but there is no telling how a game is going to run or your machine unless you actually try it out. For instance I have the game 'World in Conflict. My specs are WAAAY better than the recommended for that game and it runs like crap even on average settings. However I bought Fallout 3 the other day. I dont meet the recommended specs but the games runs fantastic on high settings. It' too random.

It's too late now anyway, I have bought the game and it's downloading now. all I can do is hope for the best. Luckily I have plentry of money saved and am working a lot at the moment, so even if it is $50 down the drain, it's no huge loss.

Also I meant EverQuest 2 runs superb on MAX settings on my VISTA laptop. It crashes all the time on my XP desktop. Thats why I was paranoid about buying new MMO's.

Oh for real? Awesome dude, that makes me happy and all the more excited! Download is almost complete and by the looks of things I'll be playing tomorrow night after work! At least I hope so. I'm in Australia and the retail release is not until the 10th here. The Direct2drive version is worldwide though so I sgould be all good.

Yeh, with a system like that I'd be very surprised if you struggled with medium settings.

Like I said it was pretty close.  I have just a little more power.  I have no problems running it on MAX everything.  I can run AoC on medium with no problem also.

Ahh I see. Thanks a bunch manchine. Yes I see our systems are fairly similar. If you have no problems on max then I should be okay on some medium to high, which I'm very happy with. Sadly I just found out I'm now working on what was supposed to be my day off tomorrow but oh well. I'm really looking forward to this game now. I had already decided months ago that Aion and Fallen earth would not be for me. Been looking forward to Champions for a long time! Thanks again Manchine.,

In Beta I sometimes ran the game on my laptop which only has a gig of ram and dual core 1.7 prosesor. On the lowest settings it ran prity smooth though it did look like arse. Really can't envision u having any probs running it on your system op.

ild be willing to drop from 60 fps to 45 fps persay to have said feature on, it really adds to the look of the screenshots and vids ive watched =D

Hey guys. Just an update. I've only had a little time to play Champions but so far I'm friggen loving it. Game is running pretty well too. Some settings are on high while other such as shadows and reflections are on low. Also no AA and only a little anistrophic filtering (or whatever it's called.) I have tried it with and without both SLI and PhysX but does not seem to be a difference either way. The game recommended that I update my drivers. I did so and seems to have helped. Anyway I love Champions online, happy to finally be enjoying an MMO again and now I can post here more often. Thanks for all the help again people! :)
