What is Mark Jacobs up to now?  I'm curious if he'll stay in the gaming industry or move on to something else.  I'd be curious what his next project is if he stays.

I havn't heard anything either. Both him and Jeff Strain (Guildwars, Diablo, Warcraft 3) quited a little while ago and it have been quiet about them since.

But I don't think people that have worked so long in the genre would get a regular job. MJ is probably lying on a sunny beach with a drink and plotting his next game.

Lets just hope he have learned the leason from WAR for the next one.

I still have confidence in Mark Jacobs.  I think perhaps he just got caught up in something and forgot about his ability to be a great game designer if he just goes with his hunches.  So many people saw WoW and though, wow.  hehehe.

Mythic was a great company.  I always had a feeling that they were different from the rest.  From the time I first logged into DAoC back in the day, they just seemed like the underdog.  And that, to me, is a great place to be.  To me it just means you forge your own path and not go by the book in every situation.

After some of the comments Mark Jacobs made over the last year... which one would expect to see on forums like this one (not from someone in the position he had).

 

I would expect he is taking some time off and figuring out what to do.  At least I would hope he would relax for a bit...

He needs to make a DAOC 2, and go back to his base...the loyal playerbase he's had since DAOC.  Although now that he doesn't run Mythic anymore, I'm sure the rights still belong to Mythic/EA.  Trying to get a slice from the WoW pie isn't an easy thing to do, and often your success can be short lived.  That's why I hope he learns to just leave that 800lbs gorilla alone, and just make a sequel to the game that he was successful at.
