I love KOTOR. Just not gonna pay a sub. for a solo game if thats what it turns out to be.

Hauken Stormchaser I want pre-CU back Station.com : We got your game Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
I do not care if they announce all players will be uncustomizable hamsters with small carrots instead of lightsabers. My pre-order will be in. Why? It's an MMOG. It's an MMOG based on Star Wars. It's an MMOG based on Star Wars made by BioWare. That's why. Thank you and goodnight.
Fixed. There is no more RPG in this game than there is in Counterstrike.
this post ^^ makes me..../meh
Big yes from me, unlike some people I can get past art styles / combat styles to enjoy the underlying story of the game
And it is an MMORPG , the sheer amount of people who will be "Role-playing" in this game will be staggering to say the least.
Well to be fair you could say the same for Counterstrike i'm pretty sure some where out there on some remote server there are a group of people role playing terrorists and counter terrorists
But on a serious note I think those who will play SWTOR as a game will out number those who will role play based on observations on other MMO's. I agree SWTOR at this moment in time is looking like a MMOG, a game based in an expansive online world with lots of story driven quests to keep you entertained, may be that will change as more information is released based on the social interaction elements and other content not related to quests.

"Staggering" - I've heard all these types of predictions for the last several failed AAA titles that delivered nothing but boring quest content and broken features. I expect it to feel much more single player than it does MMO.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

I disagree, there's a huge story with choice where you develop your character both moraly and by skills. At the same, I will be playing a character with a fully developed backstory and role-playing him if I happen to meet someone in character.
May I ask WHY there is no RPG is this game? Because of the progressing skill system? The attributes that move up as you play? Your gear that gets better, as you play? Maybe it's the huge focus of story and character development... as you progress. There's no data yet that these key RPG factors WON'T be there.
And, are you sure you didn't mean to remove the MMO like the last ten billion people calling it solely an RPG? Because, BioWare hasn't made anything but an RPG in ages, and they make damn good ones. I doubt they're stopping now.
EDIT: Social interaction doesn't make anything an RPG, that's just part of playing an MMO period. Look at Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Baulder's Gate, no social interaction, great RPGs. I think you guys are getting the MMO and RPG confused.

You sound like someone who has never played a Bioware title and are still butt-hurt over the fact that this will not be SWG2. On the topic of SWG, let me remind you that in terms of actual Star Wars role-playing, that game was an utter failure. When so many players decide to be dancers, crafters, and nerf herders in a STAR WARS game, its obvious there is something wrong.
I don't remember any of the movies ever focusing on Han Shcmucko the illustrious tailor from Naboo and his adventures in selling boxer shorts...

Yeah I'll be playing it although I don't plan to leave what I'm currently playing. I may change my mind on this, but as of right now I'm looking forward to a Star Wars game to play in a similar way I'd approach a single player. If it turns out to be more than that, great - If not, I haven't lost anything.
I'll play it simply because it's Star Wars. Hell I played SWG even after SOE raped it to death. It's kind of hard to turn away a die hard SW fan, no matter how bad the game plays.

Woah... I got everyone all fired up with that post
Sorry. I should have been more clear on my RPG point. I consider RPG's, in the sense of an MMORPG, to include more elements that allow people to come together, roll play and interact as a larger group or community within the game. I wasn't referring to the single player variation of RPG such as KOTOR or Fallout. My fault.
I think this game WILL play like a single player RPG, but that's not what I'm looking for. This game sounds like some sort of bastard cross between Diablo and KOTOR. Almost a coop play feel to it, and they even include henchies so fewer people will need/want to group.
The question in this thread asked whether or not we would play the game based on the current information. Given what we know now, it sounds like a real yawner for someone who is looking for a deep MMORPG to play for the next 2-3 years. If you are looking for a theme park to roll and re-roll, you will likely be stoked. If you are into single player RPG's, this will probably feel like one, but a few of your buddies will be there with you.
If you are into real MMORPG where you are interacting with a larger section of your server's population, you will probably be out of luck. Wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am grouping, Wal*Mart anonymous speed shopping at the Auction House, and leveling as fast as you can to get to loot and/or end game content will be the way things go, and some of us have seen enough of that. For those of you who haven't, I hope you have the MMOG time of your lives.
I know it deeply hurts the feelings of fanboys when I say something negative about this game. Don't worry though, there is a good chance one of us will be completely wrong, so all is not lost. The difference is, I have nothing invested in being right here. In fact, I would LOVE to be wrong, but I think I have it pretty much nailed down. I've been looking for a new game to play for a while now, and I would really like this game to be something more than it's shaping up to be. More of the same.

Oh, okay, we're all good then :P That's the way I'm starting to see it, but I still find that fun. I really don't play MMOs to group with random people and make friends, I play them because I like to share my acomplishments. It never gets old getting that awesome piece of gear and being able to flaunt it. SWTOR seems like it will let me do that still and, if I want, get a group.

I voted yes, although i'd like to say "HELL YEAH" i'm refraining from doing so as i've been burned in the past with other games pre launch.
StarWars genre? - doesn't bother me what the genre/lore is.
MMORPG? - i hope so as i view the RPG side of things to be based on storyline and background for your character.
Grouping? - honestly no idea as i haven't read much regarding this side of things.
and to be completely honest an open with everyone i'm hoping it's gonna turn out to be a mix of SWG/Jedi Academy/KotoR.
*Side Note*
Don't take this as a personal attack as it's not meant to be but MindTrigger, you mentioned about NPC henchmen in a previous post, have you ever played Guild Wars m8? the reason i ask is cause that has henchmen too but they are rarely used as people prefer to team with others, i'm guessing/hoping that it's gonna be the same with SW:ToR. Henchmen are ok if your online and not many are around to group with but they're not as good as real players m8, they are limited in what they can do so in a way they are more of an encouragement to group with other people.
I too am a huge Star Wars fan and I will definately be playing this game.
I must have played through KOTOR at least 40 times since it was released in 2003. The story for KOTOR was far superior to any of the Star Wars prequels by a LARGE margin and that is the main reason that I am excited about SW:TOR.
BioWare make great story-based games. I have played and enjoyed them all (in fact I'm currently playing through Mass Effect again for about the 12th time). Even if SW:TOR is as single-player focused as some of the trolls on this forum seem to think, it will still keep me entertained for a very long time as I will be playing each class through 3 times each, once taking the good guy route, once bad guy route and once middle of the road. I want to experience every possible branch in the storyline. 8 classes, 3 routes each, equals 24 playthroughs and thats before you add on the normal MMORPG content (endgame raiding, PvP etc..) that BioWare say they have in the game as well as strong story-based elements.
P.S. 24 Playthroughs? Yes I do have OCD.!
Ha! Hope you have plenty of time on your hands to devote to it. Sounds like you're really going to need it for all of that. lol
Yes. Kotor is one of my favorite games of all time, so I will definitely play this game.
I understand why the MMO purists are reticent about this game, but I still think I'll enjoy it if I can essentially play a game like Kotor while chatting with online friends and maybe calling upon them to help me from time to time when I get to a rough spot.
Playing | GW2 Wanting | Pantheon Watching | Crowfall Retired | WAR, Cabal, MO, CO, SHK, WoW, FFXIV: ARR
I'm most likely going to play, I find the universe, the idea of voiced dialogue and a storyline interesting. This could be a very good game, but I have catious optomism, instead of saying "Yeah this is gonna be a wow killer and change the industry!" I think it might set a new standard of quallity of story telling and gameplay, but thats about it.
Agreed...but as for wow that is an MMO that i lose interest in everyday and with SWTOR coming out it will be a "change of venue"
Considering that Kotor and Mass Effect are better rpgs and games than 90%+ of the mmo games even going back to the classics, and that ToR will, if nothing else, provide a unique experience from the conversation/npc interaction standpoint, it is more than worth the cost of admission...especially considering every other mmo on the market just tries to tweak the core formula in order to pull subscribers from WoW or whatever the hot new game is.
I'm playing Aion, and I'll admit its nothing special. ToR could be.
But people said the same thing about Vanguard and AoC and WAR, and they proved themselves unworthy of the "Best MMO" crown.
The big question will be how big/good will the community be. Galaxies, say what you will, had a pretty amazing community for the first 6-12 months or so. People BUILDING cities (in fact, designing them to be defendable) and roaming about with a group of friends terrorizing/saving/whatever, was as fun as it could be in an mmo...will ToR have a community like Lotro, or more like Wow?
The popularity of Star Wars will bring a wide variety of people together, some good, most bad...
Updates be damned. MMO's are the only gaming genre that gets nitpicked to death by people before they are released. Bioware does not make bad games. MMO or not, this is a Bioware game. Nuff said.

Fixed. There is no more RPG in this game than there is in Counterstrike.
I'm glad you moved past the stage where you decided to predict it will not be an MMO.
I am baffled though that you are now saying it won't be an RPG.
Oh wait, you also continue to predict it won't be an MMO. Hmm, so if you take MMO and RPG out of the title...what is it then? A Boardgame maybe? RTS? First person Shooter?
I am confused.
Woah... I got everyone all fired up with that post

I wouldn't deny you that fun and I totally understand, my friend.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
yes i will be playing because its scifi......unless they give it to sony then i will not play it.....instead wait for blizzards new scifi mmo
Sounds like you're really going to need it for all of that. lol
The game looks absolutely fantastic. For Alpha footage I think it is on the roll for an absolutely stunning game.
ZOMGZZZZZ!!1!!!1!!!! Lightsaberzzzzz!111!111!!!!!
Fuck No!
With so many MMOs to choose from, why should I go for a single player game disquised as an MMO?
Because it has a Star Wars in the name and lightsabers?
No thanks.
For 15 bucks a month I`d like to play something more multiplayer-ish.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

90% of all info have been negative. So i wont play SWTOR.
Agreed...but as for wow that is an MMO that i lose interest in everyday and with SWTOR coming out it will be a "change of venue"
that i so need.
But isn't that the story with all mmos?

I don't use xfire anymore.
I Steam =D
Considering that we don't know nearly enough about the game to even attempt to vote in a poll like this, what the heck, I voted yes just for chuckles.
QFT
Damned right.
I seriously hope you are being sarcastic. You play Darkfall, 90% feedback/info has been negative towards it.
