I've played many games and never really saw the point of player housing. They take up too much graphics. I've owned houses in different games and the only game I had a house worth having was in a MUD. Now if a graphics game could build me a house to fit the description of THAT house....
As long as they give us good storage options I would prefer no housing for more and better content.
Well speaking as a former UOer, I loved housing. Its not just a storage space. You can decorate it with your own flare and show it off to your friends. It serves as more then just storage and a show piece though. I remember one of the journals talking about crafting devices in your house. That means instead of doing a little crafting at this NPC shop, then running to the other side of town to use that device in that NPC shop, then back again, you have all the devices you need for crafting in one place. You are even standing right next to your storage so you dont have to make bank runs to get more supplies, you just continue crafting. If you have no intrest in crafting, then your house becomes a trophy room from fights you have survived. Granted with instanced housing fewer people will see it, but you can still show it off to your friends.
I played UO for roughly 4 years, and never owned a house. After a couple of years, it just seemed that almost all of the flat empty space in the game world was covered in houses.
But I'm wondering, with the instanced housing in Wish.....
*where* in terms of the game world will your house be? will it be some sort of House Dimension?
[we need a worldwide genocide/ a planetary suicide/ and when the whole damned world is dead/ there''s your f***ing peace]
Put me down on the "blah housing" side of the discussion. I've played a couple of MMOs, and I have never had a house, with the exception of FF11, which gave everyone an apartment.
Now, as long as the world provides (conveniently) all the services I need than I don't see the purpose of housing in MMOs.
My two silver worth...

I am so syched to play this game, but I too will miss player cities and housing.
Take SWG for instance.
Our guild was lucky to have a city on an advanced planet, so hunting for upper levels was right out the back door so to speak, and that included force sensive mobs.
Anyway the housing setup was more than just a place to store stuff etc.
We had crafters quarters, with all the acrouments needed in one place. And higher level crafting facilities than most.
We had a mall, which was quite busy. The credits were rolling in.
And then my favorite, the guild hall. Okay, as leader it was my house too.
This was where the movers and shakers in the guild could meet, plan attacks, strategy, whatever.
It was quite the thrill, from what I hear, to be put on the admitance list to that structure, and offered visable means of indentifying the power in the guild. And everyone who entered their first time was like "WOW".
Not to mention the setup of the guildhall was awesome (thanks Zanya) and really fit the rp aspect of the guild.
Anyway it wont stop me from wanting to play this game in the slightest.
But it was one thing SWD had going for it. And by limiting the amount of cities per planet, and making certain planets off limits, you werent faced with endless player housng.
player housing, as it stands in mmos to date, is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
the only benefit i see to housing is being able to set up a shop in your house and perhaps hire an NPC merchant to take care of your selling/buying while u are out adventuring/logged off. now that would be cool.
Poll? Hurts me noone has put up a poll 'bout this by now
SO I'LL PUT UP ONE RIGHT HERE! this way---> -----> and down
--------------------------------------------- Resplendent In pendants (Natal trophies torn from bellies of desanctified nuns) A demon, bewinged, bedight In scum, prowled their circle seeking entry to run An arctic tongue upon Her vulva Where rubies smeared to alabaster thighs Glittered like a contract in the purse of a whore Receiving sole communion from the body of christ
Thanks for the Poll, I think there must be player housing, to me it has many purposes, the most important thing is to know, after a long day of adventures, I can come back to my safely home, sort trough my recent earnings while sitting at the fire... etc, ie rp purposes.
and also change my clothes, whatever, I hate to see people, changing their chainmail armor at the bank or out in the open... oh well but perhaps its just me
as I understand it Wish will have instanced housing, with Innkeepers, although I don't like instancing I can see the need for it, but I miss the days where you could walk somewhere and find a smal hut you never have seen, and just walk into it, perhaps talk with the owner if he's there.... with instanced houses the chance that someone suddendly bursts into my house (with everything that might follow that is almost nothing
edit: and yes normally I keep my chests locked

That isn't to say that WISH won't have housing options by the way. From what we can gather, it will mostly be dependent on guilds and towns, though.
Hopefully we can learn more about this at the upcoming dev chat on Wednesday!

Just my 2 cents.
