im seriously considering playing this game a bit (i didnt preorder so itld be on tuesday) i like the look of the power sets posted on the official site and im wondering to what degree a guy can mix them, like if i wanted to be power armor and gadgets or lightning could i be? i know the CoX games allowed you to fill out a full tree of offense defence or mix in other optional power sets like flying/teleporting/superleaping ect. from the looks of it CO sets like power armor inc offense and defense im just wondering how many powers you get such that i could be a fully functional power armor with some additional support from another tree i like like electricity or gadgets. thanks in advance. trolls need not apply.

you can pick any power from any set you want, just have to unlock them, if you take all in the might set you will unlock more in that set faster but as you pick powers you unlock some powers in all the other ones as well.
say you want this power in might called lets say mighty leap, well you need to pick 3 powers in the might set to unlock that or you can pick 5 total powers from any other set and that one will be unlocked
by lvl 40 you get 14 powers and 2 travel power and a bunch of stat points and enhancer points to tweak powers, good times
there was a character builder in the forums if you want more info on how you can really play around with powers
When you first make your character you choose an energy-building power and an offensive power. So you can choose only 2 types, but as you level the choices get blown wide open. You only have so many points to spend on powers, but how you use them (i.e. which powers you choose) is completely up to you.

i was hoping it was like that, thanks guys, ive been bored all summer so this game looks like itll tickle my nerd fun side a bit good now (now i have to decide if my power armor will have electricle or gadget support argggggg!) see you guys on tuesday as long as my walmart carries it or i remember to get on steam and buy from them if walmart lets me down! cheers.
There's a lot of options. I've been mixing up the different power sets, and I've found the best way to do it is to find the power sets that utilize similar stats (each power set is assigned two stats), and also pay attention to the stats that are assigned to that power set.
For instance, one of my builds is Darkness and Electricity. Darkness' two stats are Constitution and Endurance. Electricity's two stats are Recovery and Endurance.
They both use Endurance, which I make my primary stat that I assign points to. Constitution and Recovery I consider my secondary stats and assign points to them when the opportunity arises.
Endurance - affects your maximum energy pool (good for any build).
Constitution - affects your maximum hit points (again, good for any build).
Recovery - affects your equilibrium and recovery rate of energy (also good for any build).
Then just train the powers you want in whatever order you want (as long as you have access to them).
All skills have a minimum requirement for points spent in a specific power set.
If you have 3 powers in Darkness, 1 power in Electricity, and 1 power in Munitions (a total of 5 non energy building powers), then you can train any power from any powerset that requires a minimum of "5 non energy building powers from any framework."
You get to spend 1 power point once every few levels. I'm not sure how many we gain before the level cap, but you get enough in the first few levels to play around with the different sets and styles.
There's actually quite a bit to the different power sets and the depth of customization, good game Cryptic!

good to know xiirot, i just wanted to make sure ild have some ability to make fun mixes while i was sitting here waiting for the game to come out on the first so i can try it out ^^ im sure ill be like a kid in a candy store having a ball looking at all the options and finding new and exciting things i like. cheers.
Indeed, you can mix and match as much as you want. If you end up not liking your build, you can just respec it anyways. Not only that but when you first get a power, it's not locked in until you leave the "Power House" (the training area), so you can run around and test it out and see if you like it, or respec it for free and pick another one.

thanks blurr, thats also some good info, ima try some things but im thinking i definitely want power armor (im not really an iron man fanboy so much as wanting to be evil with a suit of adamantium armor with weapons of mass destruction mounted on it, i dont think itld need to fly either, walking tank with ability to rocket jump and come crashing down works fine for me muahahahaha) and heal bots and some of the tricks from gadgets look fun and lightning looks like itld be fun to be able to zap things with my armors power core =D so many options so few enemies to smite!
FYI respec-ing just got very expensive. I couldn't afford to go back 3 powers at level 24, and i'd never respec'd on that character before. They wanted 4 G for the first skill, 9 G for the second, and 11 G for the third.
hehe not an issue for me, when i get the game on the first (either going to walmart and buying a box at 12:01 am or downloading via good old steam) im def making a power armor and eventually possibly throwing in some gadgets like munition and heal bot pets and maybe gigabolt from lightning, having the rp option of using my armors power core to unleash a huge lightning seems devilishly evil =D if i want to test out other powers ill make alts for the set, after all heroes dont just change mutations randomly most of the time hehe. and they gotta make you spend your money on something so you arent tempted to ebay it =p
