Vista Installer Issue

ciryadinciryadin Member Posts: 12

Hey Guys,

Okay, so i tried downloading the 10Gb file from Fileplanet but found that the setup.exe is fubar.

So then i downloaded the 10gb Torrent File, everything is fine setup.exe runs fine.

Okay so i startup setup.exe, i see the first installation window of Aion with the blackwing check, press next

to launch the installer but now it HANGS at the Installer part doesn't load through properly.

I'm using Vista Home Premium though + latest DirectX + latest vid drivers and i've never had any issues with

installing games before, anything i missed or should do to fix this?

Regards,

~Ciry

I thought NCsoft would be smart enough to make a general compatible installer.

I just picked the Torrent downloader listed on their website, they made no mention its XP/Vista 32/Vista 64 only (compatible)

So anyone else that downloaded the torrent file directly from Aion website and having install problems?

Do i need to put UAC off, or compatible mode on the setup.exe?

You could just download the NCSoft Launcher and let it download the game for you, that's what I did.  Had no problems at all.

Of course, that was months ago, and right now the patch server is probably REALLY busy, so it may take some time.  But OB doesn't start for another 7 days, so you should be good.

If you don't want to wait for the patcher you can download the 1.02 version from here:

    www.gamershell.com/download_48634.shtml

And then download the CBT to OBT patch from here:

    www.fileplay.net/file/6039/aion-closed-beta-to-open-beta-patch

Even the free servers for those 2 websites are pretty fast.

I'm not talking about issues with the download, the one i got from the torrent does launch unlike the fubar fileplanet one.

But the game is HANGING when i actually press NEXT from the first install screen, and it tries to launch the Windows Installer.

Is this due to UAC, or incompatibility?

Or is it another fubar download?

Yea, I know you weren't having trouble with the download.

The reason I posted the links above is because I know for a fact that doing it the way I posted will work on a Vista x64 machine.

I had issues getting the CBT to OBT patch torrent to work as well (would not extract correctly the first time and the 2nd time I could not run the installer) but downloading from fileplay worked perfectly.

Edit: The full proof way to install the game is to download the NCSoft Launcher from here and then let it download the game through the launcher, but that will take a long time.  That's why I gave you an alternative.

No problem, hope you get it installed.

These are the woes of pre-release games sometimes.  :D

Let me know if you have any issues with the CBT client or getting the OBT patch applied.

Btw, will they wipe after OB?

I know some games keep chars after OB, others wipe and then give a 1 week headstart to pre-order accounts.

Just wondering which one Aion will be.

Open Beta characters will be deleted.  Pre-order customers will be able to log in and start playing on the 18th for the 2 day head start.

I believe pre-order customers can also log in on the 16th to reserve their names, but not play.  Could be wrong on the date though.

I've got Vista Home Premium x64 and didn't have any issues installing the NC Launcher.  Installing the game itself was also OK with no changes (and no special Vista version to chose).  Running the game is a different matter.  I have to temporarily disable Kaspersky and turn off UAC and then it runs.  All because of that little shine of happiness that is GG.  Other than that though...

Or use torrent (can be faster etc but you wont get a key out of it if you haven't preordered).  You can find the links in this post (right at the bottom of the first post)  with instructions as to what to do once you've downloaded the files here (however you download it)

I wouldn't recommend disabling Kaspersky.  I use Kaspersky Internet Security and had no issues allowing gamemon.des access through either 2009 or 2010 versions.

You should get a popup when starting Aion to allow gamemon.des access to your PC.  It's better to just allow it through the software than to disable Kaspersky entirely.

If you've already blocked it and now don't get the pop up any more from Kaspersky you can just remove the gamemon.des file from the Applications Filter list and then re-launch Aion.  It should pop up and let you allow the program.

If you have any issues you can let me know and I'll try to help you with it..

Anyway, if you disable Kaspersky it can potentially leave your computer vulnerable.  If you are connected through a router with a built-in firewall it should be ok, but I still wouldn't recommend it.

I can't say much about UAC because I have that disabled.  It's an annoying piece of useless software anyhow.

Disabling Kaspersky temporarily while you play the game (and do nothing else) is no big deal and is very easy to do temporarily.  Simply right hand click on the K in the toolbar (lower right), chose Pause Protection then select an hour or however long and off you go.  To re-enable simply right hand click on the K and select protection again.  As long as ytou don't then go browsing websites, downloading and running exes etc and just play the game you will be perfectly OK.  I'm suprised you haven't had any problems with Kaspersky and GG.  It's a well know issue that has been reported to Kaspersky themselves (look at their forums).  personally I don't mind.  GG is effectively a rootkit and I don't want Kasperskey to let rootkits run.

I'm not sure I udnerstand the consistency of your point.  On one hand you say don't stop KIS, but on the other you say disable UAC as default.  Both contribute to the security of your system (UAC was effectively the key security addition over XP on the user side, just maybe a little enthusiastic - which W7 fixes of course)

Okay found the issue, UAC was the culprit.

The moment i turned it off and rebooted the PC (standard procedure), the launcher immediately continued on with the installation.

Gonna check if the game still runs fine after i turn UAC back on.

Thanks for the input sofar, maybe this little knowledge helps others deal with the same problem.

You don't need to reboot the machine btw (I know it tells you whenever you turn it on or off).  UAC will get turned off (or on) and the programme should work.  The warning will stick round though but other than that I'm not sure why the OS cries about rebooting machines and so on.  Doesn't change much but hopefully this will save you some time (saves me having to reboot every time I start/stop needing UAC).

There should be no issue with the game and Vista. Only issue that can be created while using the fileplanet is either A) ur using internet explorer and you shouldn't read b and c, B) you either didn't run as adminstrator, or c) didn't let your firewall allow it. Using Firefox both of these don't occur with the file download. Just make sure when you run the setup do it as administrator or on your administrator account. Always let your firewall allow specific files. Gamedaemon or w.e it is pisses kapersky off so unfortunately you have to allow it every time manually. As long as your running game programs as administrator and making sure ur firewall allows the program It should be fine.

Would someone please be so kind and help me with installing this download? I am kinda at the end of my latin.

I played already in closed beta and downloaded without a problem, but now i donwloaded both the aion fullinstaller and the patch through bittorrent ( both gamershell & fileplanet always resulted with a fail message), then i unzipped both files and when all was done i clicked on the ncsoft launcher, which now actually still says that aion is not installed. I am pretty lost now.

What do i do wrong please?
