I agree, the video quality is ass. I'm not sure why everyone is saying it looks fine, when clearly it's horrible. The intro to the game (before log in) looks ugly as hell, and so does the intro after you make your character. My only guess is that a high def version will be shipped on our discs.
You're average MMOer is a poor wanna-be hippie who can't afford a $1000 monitor. On a higher end set up the video truly is nasty. Thankfully, you watch it once and you're off to the game which looks fine.
I have a $250 monitor, and it still looks ugly. I'm going to play Aion, and have preordered a while ago. There is no reason for people to defend the quality of these videos just because they love Aion. Let's be real, people. The quality is garbage, and if you think it looks good you have a real old video card, are blind, or a huge fanboy that believes anything in Aion is amazing.
And, yes... thankfully it's a one time thing. I still believe a HD version should be on the discs.
Just for the record, I'm running a Quadcore 3.2GHZ, with two ATI 4870's in crossfire mode on either a 46" Sony Bravia XBR2 1080p HDTV or BenQ 24" 1920x1200 LCD monitor. (Depending on where I hook my CPU up...)
LoL! You said: "depending where I hook my CPU up..." lol, that sounds like the everyday people I deal with who know nothing about computers but pretend they know more than me.
Not really sure what you mean.
I hook my computer up to two places, depending on where I want to use it. Either my Bravia or my BenQ.
He means that CPU does not equal Computer. When you say, "(depending on where I hook my CPU up...)" it sounds like you're changing out motherboards or perhaps have two computers and you move your CPU back and forth between them.
I agree, it's a bit nit-picking, but I believe that is what he meant.

Ah. Well, I could have said TOWER instead of CPU.. but that just sounds weird. :P

That's why people use the word computer, and not tower.
For some reason, intro vids are hardly EVER sharp quality. In all the MMORPG's, RPG's and FPS that i've played, the intro video was always a little fuzzy lookin.
I ran it on my syncmaster 1680/1050 and it ran perfectly. I also just got dun installing it on my downstairs comp which is a DELL 1920/1200 and the only I had was a little bit of screen tearing because of my resolution. But I get screen tearing ingame too because my video card is too slow to keep the entire tophalf and bottomhalf of my screen in perfect sync.

Well, nobody claimed it didn't run.
It's just very ugly when it runs. Full of artifacts and macroblocking.
I was going to make a post about this myself. I finished the 1.5 patch patch through NCSoft today, which is the only place the 1.5 client can be updated, and started the game.
The intro video started, and you are right. It ran super poor for me. I was able to finish it through the screen lock-ups, but I had sound skipping, 7.1 speakers here, stuttering, and everything else that goes with new game start-up video.
I went to turn my settings down and when I started Aion again, no startup video. I wanted to try and tweak it but it seems I only had one chance after it ran all the way through.
So not running, I agree with you, ugly, ehhh...graphics looked good.
Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed. Current mmo's grouping: tinder. swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.
Lol, all these people with super computers. I was going to make a post about this myself. A quick google would have gotten you plenty of faster patch mirrors.
Honestly. You don't need a monitor thats larger than the HD TV you have sitting in your living room. At that point you start to subtract from the quality unless the game is built to run that way. Sort of the way that movies, more specific bluRay movies, are formatted to fit large screens.
Look at it this way. Go download Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and try to play it at 1440x900 and you'll notice that it looks worse. play it at 1024x768 and it looks just right. Once you reach a threshold of screen resolutions for a certain game then its quality is going to start to deteriate. Obviously you've got a nice system with a big monitor so try lowering the screen resolution in the Aion options. Just because you can play at 1000000000x10000000000 doesn't mean you have to.
Aion wasn't built to run at extremely high resolutions ofcourse they wanted it to be beneficial to high end systems, but they don't expect you to play it at such a high resolution. Just calm down the resolution and see if something changes.

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.

Was I pointing my finger and accusing people of something? I wasn't stating that it was running as in it wouldn't be running at all otherwise, I was refering to the fact that it ran without any artifacts or macroblocking, because that is how you set the standard the video being "ugly" in this thread.
Anyways, It is likely because of some computer configuration you have going on whether it be software or hardware. Because most people do not have that problem.
Comments
He never said the game was ugly, only the intro. The intro wasn't even there in CB.
I cannot believe I'm defending mrbluray...
And I am not calling you stupid, only ur brane.

1900x1200 touch of color
4970x2 vid card

As sum1 said before me "still looks like Ass"
btw pre-ordered 2 CE's and love aion's graphics but opening cutscene is terrible
The following statement is false
The previous statement is true

i have same problem. My computer run AION in-game pretty cool, with almost high settings. But cant see the intro movies in conditions.
I just hit "esc" and start playing. Lets see if in OB still do the same.
Ack! I just checked the size of the intro video.
It's a 64MB Bink Video. No wonder it sucks. It's practically YOUTUBE.
For some reason, intro vids are hardly EVER sharp quality. In all the MMORPG's, RPG's and FPS that i've played, the intro video was always a little fuzzy lookin.
And I've seen ALOT of intro videos.
That's low end. :P Also, other than setting your resolution, the in-game settings have no effect on the playing of the intro video.
I'm running a Benq at 1920x1200. I also run a Sony Bravia at 1920x1080
I ran it on my syncmaster 1680/1050 and it ran perfectly. Dude, call Lani and see if they have any openings. Then you can fix it yourself, since you obviously have waaay too much time on your hands.
why would anyone call that lying $#$@$ for a job?

Really? REALLY? You're as dumb as the admins of this site, lol.
My video has strange lighting or some strange fog going on. It doesn't look bad, but I know it doesn't look as it should. Strange.
