sassoonsssassoonss Member UncommonPosts: 1,132

I just have started the playing the game and was not part of beta

Today being last day of the offer is it a good option to take 56 months sub ie game content wise

I am a casual player with max 2 hours gameplay everyday

MMORPG are always getting more content, skills, etc. As a new game you can expect CO to get some major updates in the first 6-months as normally these games are released with some stuff missing (features ready or almost ready but that didnt get past QA tests in time).

CO is fun and if you plan to play it for a few months, why not? You will get access to Startrek Online Close Beta, you will only pay $10/month (cause teh 6-month comes with a discount).

Playing 10hours/week you can expect to take one-two months just to hit 40 with one char. And if you want to craft, explore, pvp along the way, do the lairs (instances/dungeous) it can take even longer. Once you are level 25 you will start a special storyline (that never ends) against your nemesis (a enemy you will design to hunt you, think Superman X Lex) and at 40 you will have dailies, events, etc. Enough content to keep a casual happy for months with just one main hero.

If you are a alt-holic.. well.. you will have enough content for years :XD.

In my opinion, for you, if you enjoy playing the game those 2 hours a day, it would be even more worth it for you.  Because chances are, if you were one of the hardcore players that play 6 hours a day then you would hit the level cap quickly and get burnt out on the game's endgame (not everyone gets bored, I am just saying this happens quite frequently with MMO's) within a few months time and then you would have a few months of a paid subscription left but you wouldn't want to play the game.  As a casual player you would have the game drawn out longer since you wouldn't (hopefully) be able to "finish" the game as quickly, therefore you would end up paying for more months, assuming you enjoy the game...

If you are unsure about the game as it is right now though, I would have to suggest not getting the six month subscription.

    Hope that helped

I agree. this game is waay casual friendly which puts off a lot of those who are not.  I also purchaed the 6 mo sub thinking it is one of the few games coming out that I am remotely interested in.

It is fun to play and very casual freindly.  Highly recommend it for players of that type.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

I took the 6 months tbh star trek online beta is what appeals to me as STO and KOTOR are games i am after.

But its a fun game and tbh for someone like me who does not want to see another EQ clone for quite a while its worth it.

6 months: if you are casual prolly yet. Lifetime: no chance in hell.

    IMVPO.

I would reall wait a few months before playing until all is patched and balanced.

I'd advise against it until they get a few patches in. The content is pretty sparse ight now, balancing and nerfs will be applied too, remember. The game is too young at this point to commit long term, unless the $60 or so is of no concern to you.

CO shows absolutely no variety of mechanic in any of its quests, all the variety and customisation counts for nothing aside looks once you step into a world where everything you are asked to do and everything you can EVER do resolves itself into one solitary action - smash enemy. If changing the superficials or reading walls of text are enough to make that experience new for you each time then it may be worth a few months (Cryptic have shown themselves more than happy to do the bare minimum so dont expect miracle updates)...if this isnt enough to rejuvenate your fun then this game will get old faster than you can say Antidisestablismentarianism (probably faster than i can attempt to spell it too)

Says the dedicated CO bash troll.

Seems either a person is creating a special account for each game on this site to bash.

Or each game seems to have it's own dedicated troll.

Shame how this site has gone to shit lately with trolls and bashers everywhere.

I think thats a bit unfair, personal attacks and generalised labels for other forum members shouldnt detract from the purpose of the thread which is to discuss the game's long term merit. If your avatar is the be all end all focus of your experience then I suggest it might have some long term appeal, if however the world and quests are important I stand by my assertion that as there is only one physical mechanic involved throughout the entirety of the existing game and that does become repetitive quickly.... its quite unreasonable to assume when and what an later update might bring and use that as a reason to get anyone to commit to 6 months, you have to base the analysis on what has actually been released

Yet every MMO is the same as far as PvE content is concered. In addition, not sure of what you are looking for in an  MMO as WOW, AION, WAR, etc. do the same thing. Some more so then CO and require a major time commitment.

MMOs in general go with TANK, HEALER, DPS -- why? To smash enemy.

P.S.> Guess this also covers PvP content too.  as that is what v in there stands for

Is it unreasonable to expect new games to bring new idea's to evolove or progress the MMO...that is what seems to be absent here, yet if you listen to discussions coming from the devs in APB, DCUO and most especially SW ToR there does seem to be people willing to try something new..... Ultimately CO is a great avatar creator but its a real shame that it didnt bring with it variety in what you can do...the latter development needed to come first to justify the presence or realise the potential of the creator imo.

I suggest checking this site on the games that failed just because they did try something different.

Do you really think they failed BECAUSE they tried something different? Do you really believe we have already arrived at the pinnacle of online gameplay independent of the ongoing leaps technology, ai and internet infrastrucure are still taking?

What seems to have been discovered is the addictive nature of MMO's, in the most cynical of cases this is exploited in place of progression or evolution, but in real terms variety in what players can do, vairety in how players go about it, application and illusion of choice, consequence, risk and reward are all elements that many of the most anticipated mmo's are advertising, are you saying these are just dooming themselves to failure or have they actually looked at the mmo and said, what can make it better, what are people going to do when they tire of just more of the same?

Change is inevitable, fear of change and apathy are obstacles along  the way, but I can't really see a reason why this area of development is the only one that is not the better for it?
