    HEY HEY .. HEY

2012 has been fortold by mayans etc,

Yeah, but Mayans and Egyptians and all those ancient cultures got all their technology and information second hand from Atlantean survivers who in turn got it from aliens.  So there must have been some degredation in the "ancient wisdom" as it passed from one to the other.

It's just unfortunate that we in the modern world are so abysmally ignorant and backwards compared to those wise, all knowing ancient peoples.

With all the money and man power for sale with that money why would it take  2 years now plus 4 more years to make this mmo.  I dunno but with a enough money and staff time tables can move a little faster.     As far as the game's features I rather not waste my time trying to guess.    I hope the game is released in the next two years provided it is ready.

Well given the number of Mayans running around today.... they were correct (from a certain point of view)...just a few hundred years early.

Are you familiar with how Blizzard releases games?  They don't care how much money they have behind it.  They will not release it unless they are 100% happy with it.  If that means development/testing taking 10 years, then so be it.  They are the ones famous for coining "it's done when it's done."

LOL. Well said. It's hard to have faith in the insights of a culture which failed to invent the wheel.

    Okay my prediction:

    The community will HATE this.

What he misses is "friend lists, etc" where the "etc" stands for ignore lists and enemies.

This will breed Meta Gaming.  Want to create real rifts in your community?  Your player 'reputation' will follow you everywhere.  Sounds good in theory - but Blizzard do know how many gamers are assholes?  Right?

My prediction is that Blizzard will realize this is a terrible mistake about a month after they get it up and running and dump it like the leper it is.

    I could be 100% wrong - but we'll see.

I'm going to have to disagree there, I have played MMOs where your reputation with other players is 'everything' because you need other people do get things done. The outcome has been amazing regarding community. The community turns out to be more helpful, friendly, and enjoyable because they have to be respectful or face getting a bad reputation and never getting invited to events. Of course ninjas/jacka**es won't care for this though.... I hope they go through with this and it looks like they are :D

I guess going to the moon counts for nothing... Hop on your wheel and try that.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

    To the OP:

Honestly, this sounds increadibly vague. He could be talking about anything. Something that hasn't been done before can be a good thing, it can also be something that goes horribly wrong.

Now I don't expect Blizzard to gamble on something to go horribly wrong though, however, I'm not too excited yet.

I liked WoW when it came out because it was new and fresh. With regards to a lot of elements it had taken the good part of several different MMOs out there and enhanced them. The bad thing is though that they turned it into a game which "demands"  a lot of time investment. Which is something that the average Joe with a family and kids does not have. Sure, teens plenty with time to kill who love to invest this much time, but I feel that they are missing the point in some regards.

One can only hope that their new MMO will also cater to those that cannot dedicate all their spare time to an online game. See, we also have families to cater to, believe it or not. There are lots of MMO makers out there who seem to forget that at times.

My prediction: Blizzard will once again do what no other MMORPG till today has achieved, and it will definitly be a hugh suprise for all the anti-wow players. As keep in mind Blizzard  told more the once that their game will be nothing like WoW, so according to many forums posters (not me) that must be a good things (I find that a good thing nevertheless, I like'd WoW, just not playing it for years). Then again some are so bitter nothing anyone ever makes will do justice towards what they want.

I completely agree with you. That is why I'm hoping for something with bigger focus on social interaction, customisation and horizontal progresion.

I canot predict what will happen but I can have expectations from my past with Blizzard games. I expect the game will be finished when it comes out, polished and tested till their testers eyes bleed out awesome, have great conectivity with BNet, have much more stable engine optimized greatly to online play compared to WoW, I expect it will use much of the "quality of life" or "vanity" functions common in WoW, it will use some of inovations that come with SC2 and D3...

All those aren't a guarantee that it will be the best game in the world or anything like that, or even that I will like it when it comes out, but judging by everything I know, it's more and more likely it will deliver on most things to most people even if not on all things to all people.

They are going to make a fantasy setting MMO for The Mature and Hardcore MMO Veterans who have been so hungry for a game like that for so long now it's time cash out! All while WOW remains a starter game for the kids and newbs alike works as a bridge to their new game!

    This just confirms it! WOOT!

I don't think even Blizzard is cocky or foolhardy enough to take on WoW head-to-head.

Assuming the 'totally new' proclaimations are true, I'm thinking survival horror or (blech) cowboy theme.

Interesting interview but I can't see Blizzard straying far from the WoW model. People have gotten so used to the level/gear/grind I think if Blizzard tries to do something different people will start complaining. And we know what happens to an MMO when massive amounts of people start complaining!

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

There is no possible way I could invest worthwhile time in 2 different MMO's and still come away knowing that I've achieved something, it's a case of all or nothing.

I've tried before splitting my time between MMO's and it just didn't work, next thing I knew I'd just spent 3 months in 1 mmo and I've just paid out 3 months for another MMO account to sit idle and for everyone to leave me behind skill and lvl wise, for me personally I just could not see the benefit to myself.

However I am very intrigued by the statement that this MMO will be unlike anything ever seen before, a very bold statement indeed from Blizzard as WoW was certainly not in that catergory, I haven't witnessed a totally innovative MMO for 10 years, but I'm sure if Blizzard is trying to get the message out that this new MMO is going to be something never seen before then I'l give them the benefit of the doubt.

Not me. I don't think it's possible, and Blizzard really doesn't do 'innovation'.

You ignore World of Warcraft?, don't asume that innovative means something never done before, of course it can be....but simply put "a new way of doing something"

What Sams is saying is what a lot of people have argued for a while, but my greatest fear with this prospect is that rather than being more of an RPG than WoW, it will be less.

I despise WoW, so you'd think I'd be excited, but I have to recognize that being substantially different from WoW doesn't mean it's a move in the direction I'd want.

Well put. I think that is a reasonable concern.
