I guess probably because they haven't implemented many theme park elements.

When I left leveling was not slow. You could get to 45 in  a week. There was a chunk
around 40ish that was slow due to a gap in quests, but other than that...fast leveling.
Although I agree, it's not designed for a casual gamer from what I can tell.

PvP isn't exactly pointless, but it's not central, and to many that seems like a flaw.

Games each have their own "success" point in which they are making more than
they spent. I am guessing since they are using an engine developed for other stuff
this success point is rather minimal. That being said, I think it can survive for quite
awhile with a smaller player base.

A sandbox MMO is a game that drops you into a player driven world. Players are given tools, and sand, and they get to make whatever they want with it. just like when you were a kid in your sandbox with a shovel and pail. You didn't have much fancy stuff, but you had fun.

A non-sandbox MMO has already made all the fun for you, there is no sand, its a playground or a "themepark". its not about you creating content, its about having fun with what the devs made. like when you used to climb around on the monkey bars or whatever.

simple eh? player driven vs dev driven.

Thank You qq100,  I couldnt have said it better myself..

Haha  yeah only if I didn't have too sleep. I remember when EQ2 was release I stayed up for 34hours to play the game. But for Fallen Earth the concept is awesome but its missing design or something. I was playing beta for three months and it always felt like it was a basement mmo. I hope it does well but...time will tell

I strongly disagree with original poster on ranged combat. "It does not do enough damage" means that he never passed level 20 I'm afraid or never had to fight ranged mobs that will rip you apart while you are trying to catch them with your pair of uber-hammers. Fallen Earth is all abour ranged combat, it's so imbalanced in favor of ranged combat that it's not funny at all on 30+ levels. Sniper assault rifles will take down any mob before they even come close to attacking you, even 10 levels above yours if you specialized in rifles. And pistols, although not perfect willl dish out huge amount of dps while you are dodgin hammers or swords.

This game is far from perfect, but saying that it's not good is just not right. I understand that opinions are like arses, everyone has one, but these comments do not look like they came from somoene who played the game for more then a week.

Leveling is extra fast if you know what you are doing. You can level while you sleep by crafting highest level components. Vehicle components will even allows you to skip levels at great pace while at vacation, just make few tires while you have that prolongued weekend, come back and you are already 3 levels up. What is not possible is grinding mobs to level and I salute that.

My overall impression of FE is that it has potential. I would like to see more pvp oriented content in the future.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

true, and it's very clunky too
Graphics suck(game looks like it was made in 03) yet the system requirements are that high? My friends cant even run the stupid game
the graphics are truly awful for 2009. the defence people keep making about it being post-apocalyptic is nonsense. you can still have well detailed textures, doesn't matter what the setting is. it's an ugly mess

Takes FOREVER to lvl. Not a game for a casual MMOer
this wouldn't bother me so much if it was an enjoyable experience levelling. as well as the world being unpleasant the quests are tedious
Fear that the game wont last and the servers will be shut down.
i'm not sure how many players they need to survive, but i don't see this getting more than a few thousand

Im going to play Earth Rise
    me too!

The combat is god aweful, and the controls are little clumsy.
Weapon imbalances are pretty big, especially between ranged and melee.
The graphics though i think are "all right" (did not like the character models though the environment is very nice), though they are a system hog, and it doesnt look like it should be that huge of a system drain, yet it is.
The game is still littered with bugs and issues with getting stuck in the environment are still pretty big.

I am definitely going to wait, cause this game is definitely being rushed into released.

In before the "this game is not for you" since i am a SWG player since closed beta of SWG up to last year.

talking about imbalances...wow after 4years still have imbalances...fallen earth isnt out yet...so no wonder...

On my ud rogue i can kill most players if i get the opening on bgs, i can kill most worlocks wihout them even clicking a skill, if they do i just interrupt...balance ftw

I get stunned by a paladin and 2 seconds later im dead...balanced...

So How can a game in beta be balanced? no game is balanced..if i got 400 ping and you got 100 ping its not balanced...

Animation combat can be fixed like some animations and combat was fixed in wow after launch, an mmo is allways evolving.

No mmo is released ready..because no mmo is ever ready...FE is more "ready" then 99% of the mmos released the last year, problems in FE are minor problems..that can be fixed easy and soon, combat, some animations and weapon damage, game optimizations to run better ...graphics are fine for a gigantic seamless world, not like the AOC graphics that need loading screens every 100 yards...and multiple copy of the zones to fit players...just an example with one of the crappy so called mmos out..AOC; Champions Online and so on

    To the OP

Maybe it is a virus that just does not affect horses.  You know, virus doesn't work the way most people think it does like in TV, movies, and video games.  Much like a computer virus, there are alot of misconception about how a virus work.

  • neoterrarneoterrar Member Posts: 512

Really, the way the "virus" worked out is rather peculiar.

Some plants got it...some animals got it, some humans got it...

But really, you can't fault the game for the little weirdness like that.

Maybe it's just me but Earthrise graphics look the same but with a glow effect on it? :P

You also have to consider that Fallen Earth began initial design in 2003... So kinda makes sense that the graphics look 2004ish, were you not able to play games in 2004 because graphics weren't cool enough yet? :P

As far as fear of Fallen Earth closing it's servers.... This is an indy company on par with CCP and EVE. When EVE first came out it didn't have anything near the potential audience as MMOs have now. It's only going to take a tiny chunk of a dedicated playerbase to keep Fallen Earth aloft and improving. Being successful doesn't mean you have to have all of china's gold farmers at your doorstep, just that you do good enough with what you have to turn a profit, and maybe even expand.

I'll pull speculation out of my ass and dare to say, with the news of Fallen Earth placing high on D2D sells, I doubt Icarus is going to have any problems with maintaining good standings for some time to come.

I must say I'm a bit biased, because I want Fallen Earth and Icarus to get every chance they deserve.

That sounds pretty cool to me. I like what I have heard about the improvised technology in the game.
