Why open world?

GW is awesome. The best ever PVP I've experienced in an MMO. I'd even say its my favourite MMO of all time.

And it being F2P, it was like my dream MMO.

The fact that EVERYTHING is instanced really apealled to me. It was what set it a part from other "generic" MMOs.

But...

Why open world for GW2? :(

I think being open world is going to make GW lose its identity.

This is a MAJOR turn off for me.

I love open world.  Guild Wars 2 being open world is one of the main attractions for me.

You enjoyed the instanced aspect of GW and that is good. But there are also, a significant number of people who were turned off by that. By offering both, ArenaNet hopes to pull in both customers.

Just like Guild Wars isn't a copy of other MMO's, Guild Wars 2 won't be a copy of Guild Wars.

ArenaNet have developed a unique "questing" system that no other MMO has implemented. It's simply going to be awesome. We'll be able to take part in the Events system in a persistent world, whilst still doing missions in instances

I think A-net wants to create a really compelling pve-experience and you can't really do that in an all instanced game. It gets rather lonely running around in your own little world.  With the event system they aim to really bring the gw-players togehter as a community and create an epic world. GW2 is primarily being made for pve. There won't be much change to organized pvp other than ofcource the new classes and skills.

DUDE, u liked iot instanced, u gonna LOVE it open world

    CHILL DAWG!!!

Open world allows more interaction with other ppl while questing.

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Yes, the dev team has stated that they are targeting pretty much everyone.

To me... I need to meet some people while out traveling, but more importantly, I don't need other people running around in my missions. What they are doing with the new game is completely different, totally unique, and will be the best of both worlds.

I think you will enjoy this style more than the old style.

Nice Sig, I wana see gear like that for GW2

I was mad and happy about the instanced zones, one not being able to get a fun REAL person group together and meet people as fast or as easy as say wow. I do like the none waiting for mobs and farmers. Im pretty indifferent about open world in gw2, im looking for the pve and pvp

    NOOOOOO

THE EFFECT OF OPEN WORLD ON LEAKS~!!!!!!~~~~~!!!!

    NOOOOOOO

I think GW2 having the Event system is a big improvement from GWs.  I never really liked doing many of the quests in GWs because it's harder to find party members than doing missions.  That's why if they add and Event system and make the game open-world, people will have more fun getting together and completing these Events.  GW2 will supposedly still have instanced missions, so it isn't that huge of a deviation from the first GWs.

Lol i wouldn't worry, i trust arena net and i acctually am much looking forward to the open world aspect, it makes the world more engrossing and i've always loved exploring. Plus, finding new friends in places you didn't expect is always fun. Wide open environments should be something to look forward to not be afraid of, just wait for the release and we shall see!

Yeah, I am a open world mmo junkie myself. Once I heard this, the game grabbed my attention!

Im sorry to hear open zones will turn you away from Guild Wars 2, though I do hope you give it a go anyway.

I believe the majority of the mmorpiger community would agree on a mix of the two rather than a fullness of either.

(I really did make a Zero Punctuation reference) Cheers to Me!

I LOVE OPEN WORLD! Obviously, to perfect it, there needs to be some loading screens other than the initial. I like how WoW does it, if not anything else. All open world, but when it comes to raids/dungeons, they are instanced into your own place.(Exactly like GW1 outside towns)

I loved the idea of GW with instanced maps. It made it excellent for small groups of friends to adventure and get challenged constantly.

Open world is nice too but I really loved instanced maps for a change since it made the story progress in a more personal and engageing way!

Im actually turned off by the whole GW2 being more like a regular MMO. I like how unique GW felt. I just hope they keep a small team on GW so we can get content updates even after the new Guildwars/wow hybrid (gw2) releases.

GW was pure win. You don't fix what wasn't broken.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

As long as GW2 offers the option to turn off local chat and gives me an instanced GH when I need to get away from live players I can live with it.

On the plus side, an open world limits the number of PvE titles that ANet can implement, so it may end up more of a casual friendly game than the first one, which turned into a massive time sink later on.

  • PersephassaPersephassa Member Posts: 223

If you enjoy the instancing in Guild Wars than just continue to play that game. A-net has already stated that they will continue to maintain the servers.

  • SaiaxisSaiaxis Member UncommonPosts: 45

A better question is why not?

One of the things that drew me to Guild Wars was the instanced play cause it reduced looting and kill stealing. Thing is though, gets pretty lonely out there when you are just by yourself with heros and henchies, and unless you are in a guild it sometimes is hard to get parties going outside of missions.

With them already confirming instanced dungeons and missions, it will be interesting to see an open world in Guild Wars and what affect it will have on the gameplay, but I think it will be positive

If the world is instance based and i do not see anyone out side of cities i just wont play.  The game drove me away for that reason.  Hope they try something new in GW2 and let us see other people more often.

dont know but i can think of lot of reason ,might be now they got the technology to see the total sum of their original idea

    made in full.

theres lot to do i a open world

in vanilla wow there were lot of pvp area for lvl 55-60 probably not same model because areanet way of doing pvp is very adictive

add to that probably lot of other stuff we can dream about ,arenanet is one of the few company that came out of nowhere and is very successfull with an never seen before business model

Just from reading PvP wont be taking place in this open world. There will still be the PvP Battle Isle arena system (based now in LA), and a World v World massive battle in the Mists for those casual PvPers (probably with similar intentions in mind that Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry have)

  • scrat55scrat55 Member Posts: 1

It will be open world for people to walk and kill stuff, but for missions, quests, etc it will be still in instances like in original GW.

i like the instance because: no KS, no beggars and annoying people...

however, open world is more fun and the players will bring life into the game. in GW, i often feel like the game is too "empty" when i'm killing stuff. also, it will be easier to find friends / parties. AND if you have cool stuff, you have more chance to showoff, lol =P

I want to reborn as a Sylvari.
