I looked into moorgard index and didnt find my answer so I will see if you guys know.
Moorgard said that there is no exp loss at death, we just lose a shard which takes away some exp we gain from kills until we get the shard back.
but I think they are saying that there will be group exp debt penalty, what does that mean? Do you get exp loss if your in a group but not solo?
any beta testers that can answer this that know first hand?

you get experience loss in both group and solo...so pick your groups wisely. If I see the first hints of stupid hunting tactics, I disband.
But in terms of exp loss...when you die, you loose about one bulb of exp...which could be around .04% of the level exp to .07%
However, if you get your shard back (your spirit will absorb into your body by approaching it and absorbing it) you get a good chunck of your missing exp back (probably around 70% of it).
Also, the progression of time will recover your exp back as well. For example if you get slaughtered with massive xp debt right before vacation...when you log back in a week later, it'll probbaly be all gone.
But if your whole team sucks and they all get whacked and they can't get their shards back (like being all the way in the bottom-end of a dungeon) you're gonna get in trouble...my best advice is to disband lol
However, I have never experience that kind of bad luck in the almost 3 weeks of beta testing.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I don't like the group exp debt thing. One thing that sucks is a lot of the time it is hard to tell if a group is bad utill the fight has already begun... and you can't disband then. But people do stupid stuff like running between a lot of gnolls that are higher than them... and then guess what, i get punished for thier stupidity. They need to tweak the system on that because that is the only thing i have a big problem with in this game.
Playing: Vanguard SoH
Played: EQ, Planetside, SWG, WoW, EQ2
I think this may cause a lot of tension in groups. The group whipes and everyone is going to be looking for the person who messed up. There are too many things that can happen. Someone could train your group, bad pulll, mobs resist mesmerize and such. I could see where this could get really ugly and a lot of people are going to be bickering. I have EQ2 preordered, but this group experience debt has me wondering if I will like the game or not. I mean you make one mistake and your whole group hates you. Seems like a little too much pressure. We all make mistakes, but others with the one making the mistake shouldn't suffer. All in all I guess I think this is a bad idea. I am not going to say any more until I play the game, this is just my opinion.

A while ago (before we knew the new info about shards) Moorgard mentioned that eq2 would have an xp debt system of some sort and that the debt would slowly dissipate overtime whether you remained online or off (I looked for this quote but I unfortunately could not find it).
I don't recall saying that would be the case.

No, in fact, you don't lose any XP when you die in EQ2. Smile You lose POTENTIAL XP, as your spirit maximum has been dropped, but losing outright XP, no.
Exactly. There is no debt. Losing spirit is like somebody lowering the interest rate on an investment you made. You'll want to get your interest rate back up so that you can earn the greatest future profits possible.
this was in the Moorgard index under death, so what moorgard said was that there is no debt on death.
So this has changed?
In a good group, even if a few (or all) of you die, the XP loss is recovered quite quickly. IE: getting 3 groups of 10 skellies accidently agroed to the group. All 6 die, collect their shard, and not 10 mins later of continuing pull/slaughter, the debt is gone. I don't mind sharing in the death penalty because it's quite small when one death is split between 4-6 people.
What I DO mind is when that death comes from not listening and/or sheer stupidity. IE: when the person is told TWICE to not start attacking a yellow group 2 mob with only 3 people at their computer. /rolleyes
Clerics have a big problem with agro, so we're the one's that are gonna die the most. It is the tank's responsibility to keep agro and keep us alive. If they don't do their jobs, the least they can do is take a small responsibility in our deaths. Same goes for clerics that don't do their job.
I was kind of opposed to the idea, but really in these terms it does make "sense" in theory. I will have to see myself before I can decide if they can implement it without aggravating everyone. But I'm sure everyone has a few memories of those group members that refuse to play nice, so to speak. I think it kind of evens out the responsibilities of each member of a group to do their part, or they will be 'punished' in even a small way. That gives a little more incentive to pay attention. I just hope this does not evolve into a part of the game that makes me prefer solo at reduced xp just for the lack of irritation. At least if I get myself killed, I can't blame anyone else (barring trains, and other unforeseen events)
SO does anyone know if the moorgard posts are outdated when he said there is no exp debt?
