Umm you make no sense. I mean the answer can be either yes or no depend on the GAME. Not the company nor their track record. If Aion is grindy (well depend on each person's perspective of what "grind" is) the answer would still be based on if Aion is ginrdy and not whether NCsoft is grindy.
If I am in fact missing something, then may it stay missing forever, because it is nothing beneficial judging from your reply.
Is the question still boggling your mind?
While I enjoy reading your posts since they are pretty accurate and on topic, your tight focus and ironclad logic betrayed you in this case.
The question is not meant to be answered, it is a rethorical question.
It is just pointing at familiarity of NCSoft as a korean MMO developer.
So you are saying when the OP asked:
How many here played Aion's PvE alot? Is it a Korean grinder that looks mazing?
Some people on the CO forums said it was. I have not yet played it, but was looking forward to it, hoping the PvE is engaging as well.
Any beta testers got an opinion?
And you replied:
Never played NCSoft game before?
Killing mobs or doing quests, it's all the same - dull and repetitive.
As much as I appreciate the humor about stereotypical view of Korean grinders. I don't see how that is related to Aion other than the fact it is an NCsoft game. Which is what I kept saying, even if Aion is a grinder by your definition, you are generalizing what NCsoft produced in the past and not about Aion I just pointed that out.
If you also mentioned crafting, gathering, and PvP also give exp in Aion compare to past NCsoft games, then even if you call it dull and repetitive it would be fine since opinions are not something I can say is right or wrong. You would also be very much on topic since it is about Aion and not exactly NCsoft.
Yes this question has boggled my mind even now. However, I am not going to continue this line of debate, since someone could always think it is humorous to reply even though it is not exactly on topic. I also many times derailed a thread slightly when the discussion lead to an insteresting point that I could not help but speak out about.
Its as much as a grinder as WoW, talk to NPC -> Accept -> go kill or collect things , rinse and repeat, it is nowhere even near any other grinder such as L2, that grind just doesnt exist in AION, sure you can kill mobs to level the same way you can in WoW, but the leveling through quests is exactly the same.
If you are one of those "hurr durr I dont want to group up with people in an MMO this is MY choice if i want to group up for quests! I need o be able to sologrind with quests to level 50 all on my own!" guys, then yes Aion is a grinder "ohmygawds there are not enough quests with random guys ive no clue about that want me to kill some random trash monster for random fucked up reasons 5 yards next to them and then reward me with like 5-10% of the whole level" guys, then yes Aion is a grinder "ohmygawds im so casual and have a wife and like 10 kids and i rescue 5 puppies everyday why cant i maxlevel to 50 within two weeks? I dont care about the content between 50 or whether i can allready enjoy the game before 50 i just want to get maxlevel within a blink" guys, then yes Aion is a grinder "ohmygawds i cant get the best possible loots in the game by playing my FOTM class like 30mins a week and jump arround in a tiny shut off rooms with like 5 other guys and actually have to play the real game and have to interact with the real wolrd of this game? fucking grinder!" guys, then yes Aion is a grinder "omygawds this one guy got his gears by like grinding 24/7 thefore i feel forced to grind too instead of enjoying the actuall game and get the same stuff a few days later. Thats obviously because of faulty game design, not because of my urge to get fat loots as fast aspossible, instead of just enjoying the acutal game!" guys, then yes Aion is a grinder
For anyone that plays WoW, yes this is a horrible grinder and you should just keep playing WoW because you will hate Aion. In fact, if you play any game and feel the need to ask whether this game is a grinder, then it IS. Please, please find another game to play, you will hate this game.
We will miss you terribly and I'm sure Aion will be diminished just by the lack of your glorious presence, but we'll just have to grind through this awful game without you.
Save yourself some time and buy a year's subscription to WoW. That way you can't even be tricked by the evil Aion players once the game is released and everyone is playing it. It might be difficult when all your friends are playing Aion and having a ball, but please remember:
1. All your friends are liars and are just trying to get you to play Aion out of pure malice.
2. Aion is a total grindfest and everyone hates it and everything you may have heard good about the game is a lie.
3. Everyone in the betas are just crazy fanbois and if they liked the game, they are just pathetic losers with no real lives.
Please post on all the other game forums what an awful game this is. Use your ignorance to your advantage and warn the world now. Aion is a Korean grindfest ! You might throw in that it's a socialist commie game made by aliens to enslave the human race. If that doesn't scare them off, then just make something up!

Yes its a nice post.
I get sick of threads like this about various games... every MMO is a grind-fest. Why? Because at some point you are doing the same thing over and over and over.
The real art of game design.. is when you don't notice that you are "grinding". Usually due to the fact you are actually enjoying... the game.
Harvesting = Grind
Crafting = Grind
XP = Grind
PvP = Grind
Grind = any action repeated many times. Its just like... oh well I give up.. won't be around much in open beta so I'll say maybe see some of you the 20th!
So the first few posters spam that this game is a grind and nothing more. heh....scuse me....ROFLMAO...ok...wait your serious? ....LOLLOLOL...ok that helped.
*seriously, All mmorpg's can be considered grinders if your talking about the leveling system, but then again Eve can also be considered a grinder..learning skills takes time and that to me is still considrered a grind of sorts. I think you guys need to decide on what you mean by grind in the begining of the thread. Because honestly Aion isnt even close to a grind as lets say other games are. I consider WOW a grind when the entire game is at 80 and your basically leveling from 1 - 80 with a new character. Dont even consider the DK level starter at 55 because thats limited to 1 class. Now i want to make a new character, i have to grind 1 - 80. Or do you guys mean i have to waste my time grinding because of this boring uninspired content? I have to say something on each of those.
1) If you mean grind by experiance gain/ levels then yes its a grind where it causes you to spend time in order to gain levels, its not slow. its a decent pace with a few levels harder then others because there is challenge in the game. its not ez mode.
2) if you mean its boring because of content or that its a linear rollercoaster. Then thats all opinion, depending on the person and if they bothered to read the quests or research the lore it shouldnt be boring at all.
ofcourse this is all relative....most players that dont like Aion dont really give it a chance to succeed, they go into the game with a negative attitude from prior trolls or ideas of the game. Usually their overall experiance comes back....negative dear i say?
So to answer you OP, IMHO the game works well for what it offers. Its a very polished, good looking fun MMO. Play the game, try it out...and see for yourself. Asking a forum about others opinions will on tell you 1 thing. What everyone else thinks, but it wont be even close to what you think...because we all have different tastes. So to all those fuming at the mouth that this is the second coming, its not and to those frothing at the mouth because they think its a asian grinder...its not so get over it.
For anyone that plays WoW, yes this is a horrible grinder and you should just keep playing WoW because you will hate Aion. In fact, if you play any game and feel the need to ask whether this game is a grinder, then it IS. Please, please find another game to play, you will hate this game.

Played L2 for nearly 4 years. No comparison. Quest oriented leveling [at least initially] Haven't ran into any "Kill 100 x" type quests either. Brought three toons to mid 20s in the CB. Has a sense of humor - lots of crafting [vs go find a dorf for whatever]. Excellent graphics, faction play vs open pvp. Flying is uber.
How many here played Aion's PvE alot? Is it a Korean grinder that looks mazing? Some people on the CO forums said it was. I have not yet played it, but was looking forward to it, hoping the PvE is engaging as well. Any beta testers got an opinion?
<<<beta tester
My opinion : I don't care what people say on the CO forums or any other forum site for that matter.
Is it a grind: Every player has a different opinion on what is a grind to them.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Excellent! lol as much as I despise "ditto" you nailed it. If you want to PLAY the game, with some depth and lots of opportunities to grow your character in whatever direction you want, you will like Aion. If your view of the game is first to level cap "wins" you will likely find it a grind - but that would be because you wanted it to be....
Take WoW for exemple. The levelng is not considered a "grind" since you do quest and kills mobs while leveling. At the same time your learning about the world and your place in it. You also move from zone to zone lessing the headache of being in the same place all the time. Now when you take say a game like Linage 2, and some F2P games. The games only way to level up your character is to kill say 500 Awesome Beast then thats a grind. I mean who wants kill 500 Awesome Beast for 2 days just to gain 1 level!
From what I am hearing is that Aion has quest all the way thru max level. Making more WoW like leveling then Linage 2 and F2P games.
All MMO's have grinds. If you don't like to Grind then MMO's are not for you.
Originally posted by Regnevanz Anyways I suspect OP is a troll to put the words Aion and Grind together in a forum topic however, you can level to max doing just crafting if you don't even want to kill one mob! just takes a bit longer perhaps and you got to be good at the old auction house.
Not a Troll, really wanted opinions after what I heard, that was the purpose of my post. Good feedback. I am infact already a subscriber and look forward to trying it tomorrow-
If you don't the asian style of game you are not going to like Aion. Its alot like WOW.
One thing I have to mention is that the engine is very very very similar to WOW. But a CryEngine from those that brought you Far Cry and Crysis. That is proabaly a standard though.
Read the names in the credits. You should be able to see them by clicking on the button on the main screen. And you tell me if its Korean. Could be Japanese, Chinese, Korean...I call it Asian.
Well, obviously my definition of grind needs clarifification!
To me, if I can play all the way to a level cap, going quest from to quest, be able to play some cool instances every few levels, with some raids along the way while leveling, along the way.
Mix in some PvP of various type, with an engaging story, exploration and good visuals, and there is a reasonable chance I will find it compelling. And no, I do not rush, I am one of those who reads the quests and I try to enjoy the creativity of the writers and the designers.
So to me really, a grind is simply when the devs are too lazy, short staffed or underfunded to build engaging quests to make leveling, fun and interesting. The simple solution is lots of territory to grind away at mobs, because you have no other choice. I have tried some Korean f2p mmo's like that, and I do not care how pretty it is, I would soon tire of it.
Once in a while, drinking some beers with friends and gabbing on vent while you grind together, well thats good fun as well. I just don't like it to be the defacto modus operandi for PvE leveling.
How many here played Aion's PvE alot? Is it a Korean grinder that looks mazing? Some people on the CO forums said it was. I have not yet played it, but was looking forward to it, hoping the PvE is engaging as well. Any beta testers got an opinion?
Answer to question: YES 1000x
Not to mention a terrible storyline, predictable and lame. There is nothing engaging about the game beside the grind for gear or level. I havent played PvP becuase I hate PvP. So from someone who loves PvE...it sucks. No No No NCSoft.
Having played the game almost a year now I would make a post telling you the truth about Aion but if you do that your post gets deleted and you get a warning.
So suffice to say buy it even if you dont play it because thats all that the gave devs and hence gaming rags bought and paid for by game publishers care about.

asp why would you play a game thats mostly dedicated towards pvp while you only care about pve. thats just setting yourself up for failure
I wouldnt say it is dedicated to PvP although its a part of the world. Its the same with WoW and never once did I play PvP in WoW. The PvE of Aion is nothing new or exciting to me leading to the fact that it dosnet engaged me at all. Maybe time will change my mind, but I have alot of issue with the PvE. The reason PvP dosent appeal to me is that it dosent matter how skillful you are; you will always be out-done by the people with the best gear and who can play the most (not me). Maybe this is "boo-hoo" but honestly if you are a casual gamer, PvP is out.
In good PvP those who can spend the most time should get the best gear, but it should only give them a solid advantage. Not make them automatically win any fight. That’s not such a difficult balance to achieve.
