-Laughs- A lifetime sub or a six month sub to Champions online.
Joking aside, it hasn't been THAT long since they took the IP over from Perpetual. They are already at beta? Maybe its just me but I haven't seen any news or even a crescendo of information like Bioware has done that builds excitement. The only thing I've gathered so far is it will be half assed as far as some features the player base considers Trek.
At any rate, It seems awfully fast to be going to beta this year.
You mean all the information from bioware like the fact that they are making a fully voiced mmo with cut scenes, or that they are making a story driven mmo with fully voiced cut scenes or that they are making a fully voiced story driven mmo with cut scenes?
I have read and seen a lot more about what you get in sto than swtor but have seen a lot less hype
however i wasn't expecting beta for another 6-12 months
I mean yes the voice overs, a peek at the game world, the walk through, probably one of the best MMO trailors ever made. While not official the slip about player housing. Now what has STO released to perk your interest?
I really don't care they are using Champions engine. Thats still a short time to build a MMO the size Trek should be. They've been working on Champions how long? IT just came out and now STO is going to beta too?
Rushed..
I think Cryptic announced that the game will be a cash shop driven game. I would rather have voice overs than have to pay more than a monthly subscription to get items from a cash shop from Cryptic. The more I hear about this game, the more I move away.
Originally posted by zaylin Indeed, I have to agree. I like the Star Trek Uni. a lot, and would hate to see this MMO get rush and sacked...if ya know what i mean.
if you like Trek (like I do), you will hate this game. Unless you think Start Trek was the 'Captain Kirk Show'.
To all soothsayers i have a question. Which upcoming game will be worth following? I do not have the mystical ability of seeing into the future and have to rely on my own opinion after either seeing some reviews from people who acually play the game or playing the game for myself, so any inside info from the mystical community on which games will not be a waste of time keeping up with would be appreciated.

Well, that's a very good question. I haven't been excited by an upcoming game since Warhammer (and that was a disaster). I'm very jaded now (hence the name). I'm seeing the same sloppiness and greed that plagued the video game industry in the early '80s. MMOs will probably need the same kind of die-off to teach the devs that they better start putting out quality games and respecting their customers.
The only thing I see coming out soon that MIGHT be good is Fallen Earth (mainly for the deep crafting system). As it stands right now, I would try that out when it releases.
Whatever 38 Studios and Blizzard will be releasing in a few years might be the best chances for a top-notch MMORPG.
Funny, last year, I expected to be playing Warhammer, WoW, and Stargate at some point, but now I expect to have NO MMO a month from now.

I do understand your frustration. But i figure if one in ten games is decent i want to know about the one. Unfortunately if I were to say that every upcoming game was a failure i would be at least 90% correct. For example I think Aion is a good enough game, my problem with it is that it does nothing different enough for me to buy it. STO and SWTOR im hopefull will bring something different, at least its a different setting so will see which one does what. By the way, i got caught with War and AOC also.
The laggy awesomeness of a 100v100 battle wears itself pretty thin incredibly quickly. Sure, its pretty cool the first couple times you do it... after that you just want a playable game. Pretty much anyone will tell you from playing Eve, a 10v10 is a million times more enjoyable than a 400v400 after you've had your share of both scenarios a couple of times.
Actually 10 vs 10 battles wore really thin on WAR scenarios. after do that over and over with no real large scale open world RvR I quit. 10 vs 10 is so boring to players like me it might as well be you and your buddies playin some FPS on split screen at home on a PS3 or Xbox. Its nice the first 20 times or so but gets boring and predictable fast.
Big battles kept me in DAOC for years. WAR ended for me inside 4 months. All because of instanced small scale scenarios. Anyone else have that experience? The subscription numbers would tend to agree at least on some level.
So you prefer the WAR battles where the whole area freezes up, people are rubber banding all over the place, and you basically can't do anything but watch on in frustration?
I'm not saying 10v10 battles are more fun than 200v200 when they work. I'm saying 400v400 battles generally don't work at all, and by default a 10v10 battle is better.
Besides, WAR sucks in general. Its not fun regardless of the situation. It's RvR system is crap.
I agree WAR sucks in just about all its forms. What i am saying is if I cant have the 100 on 100 battles that run well like they did for me in DAOC and EQ then I will not settle for 10 vs 10. No way no how. Gimmie the good stuff or go home. 10 on 10 isnt fun to me on any level in a game that claims to be an MMO. whats that first M in MMO stand for? Massive. If it isnt massive I want it renamed so I wont be tricked into playing it. Nothing massive about 10 on 10 scenarios.

True, but 10v10 open RvR is a LOT of fun (at least in the lower tiers before sick CC sets in). Few people criticize the game more than I, but I can admit its high points as well.
The game is actually closer to being really good, than most people will admit. Massive battles? Nope, no way that I can see them being any damned good, but with less CC, 48v48 is posssibly attainable. That would be massive enough for me. Frankly, DAOC doesn't look very good to me, from the videos I have seen.

I am a curious person.. I signed up even though I know I will not like this game. Though I probably won't even download the damn thing if they let me in. It has already failed (me).

Yes, the sad part is everyone was so happy when Cryptic took over the IP from Perpetual. Now I'm not so sure... And believe me I don't mean to be negative but I think we've all been burned. Right now Swtor, Stargate and Trek was on my Radar. SWTOR started out with a rocky start over the graphics but Bioware knows how to sell their product. Even if the game turns out to be crap they are slowly releasing just enough information to keep people interested/excited.
Stargate I think most of us have written off as a lost cause. There was still a little hope with Trek. I figured they hadn't released much info on it because it wasn't ready. Its only been 2 years. But then wham! Beta?
I hadn't heard it would be micro transactions. If thats the case I can completely remove it from my small list of hopefuls.
