How grindy is it?

One thing I liked about CoX was that the focus was more on beating people up than actually grinding.

Have they managed to carry that feeling over here, or is it all about camping an area and killing the same mobs over and over?

Since the nerfed the XP the game has unfortunately become very grindy at level20+

Quite some people are complaining now, that they run out of quests and are forced to grind hundreds of mobs to level up and unlock new quests.

But what do you expect, when Cryptic nerfs XP, while they don't have the content to support it.

So far upto almost lvl 5 and I've never had to grind at all.  Some people complain about not having quests to do but I think the key is not to skip quests and to move around between the 3 zones to pick up quests in each area rather they trying to stay in one area and push forward doing quests that are higher level then you are.

If you do need to make xp a good way to make some up is to do open quests.  They give nice xp and a nice reward and are kinda fun and you can meet people and make a team.  Unfortunately a quite a few of the open quests are bugged and don't work.  But the few that do are pretty fun.  Around the upper teens low 20s the one in snake gulch is pretty fun.

I'm almost lvl 25 and have never had to grind.  Honestly a lot of people are just not doing the quests and moving around doing all the content that there is and then when they find that they have done everything in an area that they can doing quests that are 2-3 levels above them they have outleveled content and quests that they should have been doing several levels ago rather then doing stuff that was higher level then they are.

People need to focus on doing the quests that are in the game.  Hit your crime computer and explore all the areas it highlights.  Explore each zone.  Always do quests that are lowest level first.  Never do quests that are higher level then you.  What I do is when I'm exploring or doing some quests and I encounter a higher level quest giver I just take one quest as kinda a reminder that there is a higher lvl quest giver.  Like right now I'm over half way though 24 and I have two quest areas in my book that are reminders.  One for lvl 25 quests in canada and one for lvl 26 quests in MC.  But I've been working on a bunch of quests in my crime computer that are lvl 20.  Just doing these I got half way through 24.  I still have 2 or 3 quests that are lvl 24 in my crime computer.  Then I have a quest area in the desert that I haven't started yet that has some 24 quests.  I'm heading there next, then to canada, then to MC.  I'm pretty certain that will take me to 26 or so.  And I'll probably find some more quests along the way :P  Plus there are two open quest areas that you can do around 25-30 which might be fun.  One in MC and one in Canada.  I'll probably check those out at some point as well.

I was fin until I hit level 31 then the xp nerf caught up with me.  It is a real phenomenon you just geat people who were in headstart on the more sane XP curve thinking it not real.

In point of fact his is even more damning as they had it fine and then messed it up.  The fact that most headstart guys who made it past twenty think its fine because they had some momentum from the original fix they put in then removed shows how silly this whole process has been.

It was fine.  Then they screwed it up for no good reason.

Yeap I know as well as many others it's very very real and not fixed. 31 is where many are getting caught up at including myself and a few others in my Supergroup there are many that haven't got that point to witness the huge 3 level gap between 31 and the next available mission with requirements which stops you dead in your tracks. So overall the head start was useless to me because my character is stuck and can't do anything I'm left with 2 options grinding which will probably take me 2 weeks or so of non-stop playing to get to 33 due to such low mob and PQ XP so I can at least do the next missions or roll another character. However keep in mind this happens even after doing every single quest up to that point even going back and doing the level 8 quests in the entry areas of the desert and Canada.

I have seen some 40s running around and asked them what they did to get past this gap and they mentioned something about one of the Repeatable quests in Canada that was giving 12K XP per turn in, but you lose the ability to do the quests around 29-30. However the devs deemed this an "exploit" and lowered the XP and put a timer on how often it's able to be done....

I was in the headstart with the "Sane XP Curve"  with this character even before they nerfed XP yet again this was a issue since the original XP nerf in OB. However since Monster Island was off limits in OB the dev's probably couldn't data mine this after the original XP nerf. Overall, I hit 31 before the launch date and have been stuck since launch this is nothing that just came about recently.

I have posted multiple messages on the official forums and even put in multiple GM tickets yet only silence from developers.

The game wasnt grindy in the CB or OB. You were just doing quests and were leveling pretty fast. Was just a little too WoWish and unoriginal to my taste, but some ppl did like its pace.

Now, since this XP nerf, reading that many people are stuck at lvl 31, is really shocking. I just cant figure how they can pull out such a nerf, with such a bad timing, without even considering whether the quests will be enough to reach max level or not (knowing that most xp come from quests and the mobs give so few). Sounds like a really bad move.

Its not grindy till you hit the 20s, its OK a game and can be lots of fun.

It wasnt grindy at all till the Day 1 nerf patch, that was a killer. It wont really affect you unless you played in OB and/or the Head Start. Since you dont know how it was before, you cant compare it to whats it like now. :)

The game is not really grindy, and its only week 1 of the game. Im sure theyll work out the lack of quest for the levels 20ish, and 30s. There is an expansion already planned for it. Blood Moon.

If your not sure on the game or just want more opinions, go check out there website. LOTS of opinions there!

Right now the situation is really odd. The developers nerfed the xp, buffed mobs, and nerfed many of the major powers. This is very frustrating they wanted til launch day to do this.

It's a fun game but I am finding some truth in lack of content posts. But I am only L15

I have not grinded at all. And as long as you have Quests you won't have to. But problem is you might find yourself searching high and low for the quests

If you PVP you're in better shape cause you gain xp from that.

Something is fishy here though. Really, really, really fishy. I get the impression the 'suits' at Cryptic/Atari are panicking about some of the no-lifers that already hit 40. So they seek to punish the rest of us due to those hardcores.

It's tricky, on one hand some powers needed serious nerfing. The game was hella easy in OB. But now just plain on gun wielding mobs give me trouble forcing me to get a Defensive passive. Then again even in OB I felt the need for one heh

I love the game for the fact I get to be a superhero though and make one close to my 'concept'. I cant speak on if there is grind obviously since I'm only L15.

Something is odd.  I think they killed a potentially successful game in a matter of hours.  And I mean Auto Assault killed.

Well, as this wasn't really a heavy hitter of an MMO to begin with.. cryptic really needed to hit this one out of the park on launch.. and even with the END Builder I was against in Closed Beta, and the lack of content I talked about in CB, and even the balance issues I spoke about in CB.... if they released it bug free and worked on balance on the side, I think they could've saved themselves SOME heartbreak and implemented balance when it was more polished.  Instead they generated an earthquake that brought millenium city to its knees for 12 hours.  Thats the opposite of what should have happened.

It more than just the earthquake.  They created some of the problems that killed AA.  One of those was significant content gaps with very little mob xp.

In AA on release the mutant side had quest gaps and mobs gave very little xp.  The only solution was an awful grind becasuse the game was not made to support that kind of grind.  Unlike Aion where grinding on mobs is viable and useful xp.

CO did not have this in the last weeks of OB and headstart then they introduced, in a stealth release day patch, the very problems that killed AA, even though AA had some fun and innovative stuff just like CO.

It just so fucking strange/insane I am really flabbergasted.  AA always had that problem.  CO just decided to re-put it back in after fixing it in beta.

Exactly, because leaving a few power sets that would make the game butter to skate through in a day or two with no challenge, would definitely have been preferable. Then you could complain about how easy it is, and how EVERYONE adopts the one or two uber builds to play PVP and the matches never end because of some of the defensive slotted powers + TP.

Ooops, they couldn't win if they left in the unbalanced code either, could they (in your estimation)? I guess since you decided its going down like Auto Assault, we'll see in a year and a half (Which is how long Auto Assault lasted).

Personally, I'll be playing the game though.

I didn't know they removed any of the content.. that would be a horrible idea as the content was slim pickings to begin with.  In OB for giggles I leveled from 1 to 25 without ever visiting millenium city.  I thought that was a triumph of some kind... at 25 I went to MC for the nemesis... but I digress...

The stealth patch.. or "miracle patch"  was not necessary.. they could've gone with the a smooth launch and bug fixes later.. but they DID go the AA route I suppose. (taking your word for it, AA wasn't my bag)  ... I really thought this game would've done better.
