NC Soft should have just gotten rid of GG and had a better, more computer friendly system. I unfortunately feel all of the pain that you guys are having with errors involving GG. And to think, this is the ONLY game that gives me problems with GG. I have 2 other games on the same comp. and no problems at all. I ended up pulling my reserve and went back to EQ2.
yep same here.i ll stick to eq2 .my mind was already decided before but i was very surprised this time would be server side
espacially its just pre-buy lol.it will be way worst at release
Hah, you obviously never beta tested for EQ2. You think aion is laggy? Since when is a MMO stress test going to run how it is supposed to? FYI, EQ2 was much worse than this in beta, but at the end, they smoothed almost all of the crashes/lag out by release.. But guess what, a ton of people bitches about the EQ2 beta and cried home to their previous mmo and never touched EQ2 again, and to this day, most of the probably think EQ2 is laggy as all hell.
See how this is repeating in this thread? Bunch of kids who think a beta/stress test is going to mirror the state of release. Even EQ lagged a "little" after release because of the mass influx of players, but given away and everything smooths down. Nobody seems to realise this is completely normal. In the end, a bunch will never try aion because they think this is some demo. Just like the people who where stupid enough to beta EQ2 and consider it the final version.
I understand your points as well, but if the game won't work without disabling your anti-virus completely, isn't that a little silly? I don't trust not having my anti-virus up for long periods of time. Besides, keep in mind I was hardcore into wanting to devote my free time into this game, hell I was waiting for a year! I just don't find it keeping me excited. To each his own. I hope you guys enjoy yourselves.
Well I can understand a little better considering it is because of GG, but that is strange. I have no such problems. Hell I can run my antivirus actively while having firewall + defragging my comp all going at once and still run aion fine.
I think alot of the problem has to do with your own setup or the way your computer is configured. Lastly, NCsoft has mentioned either doing a huge modification to GG, or completely changing to a different software by the release. So keep tabs on that, you may still be able to run it antivirus yet.
I have Avast, and I even tried to make GG an exception, with all the files included. It just hates running Aion with my AV up. But, Phantasy Star Universe, which also runs on GG, no problems. Hence my confusion.
Edit- Thank you for letting me know, I'll keep an eye out .
I preloaded with Fileplanet...64bit vista with 6GB of RAM. I can't stay in game for more then 5mins. I get the same error as the OP.
I do NOT however use a software firewall of any kind or Antivirus of any kind. Nor have i ever installed any either.
I also tested with my XP SP3 notebook with 2GB RAM and I get the same results. Also no firewall and no antivirus...I deploy those via ThinApp when I travel and use Revo Uninstaller to pull them out when I'm at my home office.
I have redownloaded off FP but havent seen any difference on either system.
I do notice a fair amount of lag when I do connect,so I bypassed my router to rule it out...same thing...but I am thinking that latency might have something todo with it...my router reports latency at 115ms-3276ms (or 3.2secs) and I have no way to measure it when I by pass the router.

Yep, I'm one of the people unlucky enough to have this issue and I have been trying to spread the word as much as I could all day, the majority of people with issues are this one - even check the poll I linked, its been going from 85-90% of the people with routing issues directly having issues with these companies.
Please let everyone you know with problems know about this! Word has to spread!
It's a beta retard. Man, why does NCsoft even let people like you past the TOS. NCsosft specifically stated they are doing server tweaks and tests/stressing WHILE people are playing. Don't get this wrong, THIS IS A STRESS TEST. I know all of you are playing for your "ENJOYMENT", But realize that in a beta, your enjoyment is NOT the purpose. This is not a "Demo" or "Free trial". It's your own fault if your gaming experience is completely ruined because you have no idea what a beta's purpose is. I will be frank, you all sound like a bunch of stupid/ignorant eleven year olds.
Normally, I would agree with you. However, as I stated in my first post, this game has been released for a good amount of time already in Asia. It is not like this is the first go at it. The game should not be having trouble like this when it has already had SEVERAL open betas in other countries. If you have beta tested other Asian MMOs, the bugs are always ironed out by US open beta, and it is usually just a quick preview, and making 100% that everything is translated ok, and that people can figure out the game. After 3-4 open betas, this game should not be having crashes every 5 mins. No game in recent memory has been this difficult to keep open.
Also, as I first stated in my post, this is open beta. No Closed beta. This is where they will not only get a good/bad reputation, but also where tjhings should already be ironed out. Everyone knows that once the game hits open beta, very little is going to change stability wise. Nerfs/balance tweaks? Hell yes. Mechanics/code tweeks? Usually not.
Long story short, they had plenty of time to fix these issues, and Gameguard is not something that they own, so as far as I know, they cannot just fix the problem. Gameguard has completely screwed my experience here. Lots of lag? I could deal with that. Unable to stay in due to some rediculous program that doesn't even do it's just half the time? Now I am pissed.
Also, it being Open Beta is not an excuse for booting people all the way to the desktop just because you couldn't connect to the server. Honestly, who came up with that idea?
I have not had a firewall or antivirus in 5 years. So no, that cannot be the problem. My wife has had the exact same problems as well, and her system is two weeks old, with nothing but WoW, Firefox and WinRar installed from a fresh Vista 64 install.
Hmm, that is quite terrifying, and it sort of wants to make me cry. Regardless; if that is the case, I don't know what is causing those problems besides latency. Anyway, its something to try for people having GG issues - that's happened to people in all the games that I've played that have used it. Even having the Chrome browser open causes it to error out.
Why is that terrifying? Anti virus programs have almost always turned out to be a complete waste of time, and usually slow down my computer more than half the malware out there. Also, the firewalls usually only help against the smaller threats anyway. In five years, I have gotten only small viruses, which I have fixed manually within a few hours. Besides, if I DID get a big one, I don't keep sensitive material on my machine, so I dont stand to lose much, and I can just re-install windows. Problem solved. I just find firewalls to be cumbersom, and a pain in the ass. Also, if you are careful with what you do, and don't click random links/e-mails, you don't have that much of a chance of getting something nasty.
Seriously,
Just install Avast Home Edition. It's FREE and it's the best out there.
I just add my game directories to the exception lists and I have no slow downs and no performance issues due to AV at all!
And the neat thing is. Avast runs perfectly fine and gives no issues whatsoever with GameGuard.
That's all I use. Windows Firewall and Avast Home Edition.
My main protection from the Net is my Apple Base station setup with NAT.
Like someone else said. I have been playing all night yesterday on two different EU servers without any issues at all.
Just some small lag issues and people camping the starter area.
But the moment you got out of the level1-3 area.... it became a lot better already.
And the servers were really really crammed with people.
I'm also getting the same error as the OP, getting booted after 20 minutes or so. The game worked without issues during the first two CBs, but then in the OB I keep receiving GG shutdown errors. Since nothing much changed between the two betas (besides upgrading Norton 360 v2.5 to v3.0), I'm waiting for NCsoft technical support for a possible answer.
I barely last 5 mins before I get "Gameguard Error: Gameguard will be closed".
Can't help you with them needing a s##t-ton more servers for latency, but I can help with that - GG is absolutely retarded and those errors normally come up because you're running a "smart" software firewall or an antivirus that has network threat protection. GG trips them, and they trip GG; its a vicious cycle.
Avira and Commodo have the worst problems, but I've heard of Norton glitches, too. Try adding exceptions for the GG application.

Try uninstalling Norton and download / install Avast. And see if you still get the same error.
As an IT professional for over 8 years and spending the first years on second line support, I can tell you that I have grown a DEEP hate for Norton.
It's one of the worst garbage there is! So many issues I have ran into on Second Line support were almost always related to Norton.
The moment people replaced Norton with another AV product. Most problems mysteriously dissapeared.

I used to use Nod32, which, at least at the time, was touted as being an amazing antivirus. However, as I stated, my time without an antivirus or firewall has been just fine. The place where most of my problems went away was when I switched from ie to firefox. I could get a problem every week with ie, but Firefox is a lifesaver. I don't know what it is about ie, but seriously, you are killing yourself if you use it.

This is not something I intent to do. It's pretty obvious from this thread that this whole GG false alarm issue is not related to the AV/firewall software.
Besides, the reason I stuck with Norton was because they had on time a version that covered vista 64bit at launch. The current version is also covering win7 64bit at launch.

LOL I did just the opposite, I switched from Firefox back to ie because things just seem to work better with ie, and Aion is running flawlessly for me.
BTW I use McAfee it's free with my comcast. All I did was disable it for 15 minutes (it has options for time limited disabling) and the game downloaded and loaded fine. Once I add GG to allowed programs it should be fine.

I use ei still, but only for things that require java, which is unfortuatly my online banking. Java wont work with Firefox and Vista 64 for god knows what reason.

If you don't run any AV at all. Still I would recommend to install one and run a scan to be sure.
You never know if you accidently got any hidden malware or trojans from various websites that might interfere with GameGuard or GameGuard seeing it as a threat and shutting itself down and the game.
Another possibility is and what you could try is deleting the gameguard.des file, so gameguard redownloads and updates itself.
Try that.
And if you play on US servers. It seems you guys have a lot of issues at the moment. So it could very well be network related that GameGuard shuts down.
I don't know if GG keeps a live connection to NCSoft servers. If so, then that could be the problem as well.
Especially when you said that it ran absolutely fine in Closed Beta.

Yes, I play on the US servers. Also, I do still run scans from Bitdefender online here and there, and have Spybot as well as Hijack This to check my system with every once and a while. But to keep them running all the time is just a waste for what I do. If I randomly downloaded stuff, and read all of the "you have won 1 million dollars!" e-mails, then I might bother with it, but I don't, so it is usually not a problem. I do occasionally get something from torrents, but even that is rare because I actually read the comments on them.
Anyway, as I said, my wife is on a new system, with almost nothing on it, and she is having the same issues. And being that this seems to be a widespread problem with people, and that I play all other games just fine, I don't think I will be wasting a ton of my time trying to check my system.
As I said in my first post, things are screwy right now. I will be back later when things have smoothed out.
.... I don't know if GG keeps a live connection to NCSoft servers. If so, then that could be the problem as well. ....
This might actually be the case. This morning I opened Aion just before going to work and GG didn't disconnect me like it did the previous night. I'll see how well the game behaves this evening as well.

Exactly, just try it a bit later in US Off Peak hours and see if it gets better.
And before you try again, just delete that gameguard.des file in the GG directory, so it redownloads and updates GG. Just to be sure.
i played on and off from half 5 to 12am plus lol, and so did my mate and my bro, only crashed once but didnt bother me... some people always have problems
Some patch errors that can be solved now, but I forgot which thread the solution was on. I'll try to find it if I see it, but best if search the forums yourself.
I am not sure if there are more, but I think most errors have some solution now on Aionsource.com and on this forum. Problem is the routing issue is on the ISP side.
Pretty terrible so far. I can't connect very often, and when I do, there's a ton of rubberbanding, delay, and disconnects. As stated by previous posters, it wouldn't be nearly as bad if the program didn't completely close with a disconnect.
Logged on last night and other than all of the servers being pretty busy there wasn't much trouble until they decided to take the server down that I was on but I had been playing non-stop for a couple of hours without any issues at all up till then.
As has been stated by others this is a beta test phase and they are trying to put loads on all the new server hardware and work out the kinks. If you can't handle problems and servers going up and down then you really should wait until the game goes live.
Originally posted by denshing Hah, you obviously never beta tested for EQ2.
I did actually. And except some overcrowding issues on the first day it ran flawlessly. Aion on the other hand won't even let me log in ( "You are disconnected from the game server"...) and there appearantly are plenty people having the same issue.
Considering it's not even an actual beta and translating and adjusting to the western hardware and ISP specs was the only thing NCSoft had to do this failure just isn't acceptable.

I think alot of the problem has to do with your own setup or the way your computer is configured. Lastly, NCsoft has mentioned either doing a huge modification to GG, or completely changing to a different software by the release. So keep tabs on that, you may still be able to run it antivirus yet.

Cheers
This might actually be the case. This morning I opened Aion just before going to work and GG didn't disconnect me like it did the previous night. I'll see how well the game behaves this evening as well.
Aion, oh Aion
Why must you tease
I've been looking your way
Now I'm begging you please
If you'd just let me play
I would stay the whole day
Instead you let me down
And left me here with a frown
So now instead of having fun
I'm alone, with my gun
Now you've left me no choice
And you gave me no voice
Aion, oh Aion
I'll just ask you this
When I pull this guns trigger
Where's the next quest to go get

Exactly, just try it a bit later in US Off Peak hours and see if it gets better.
And before you try again, just delete that gameguard.des file in the GG directory, so it redownloads and updates GG. Just to be sure.
Good luck!
i played on and off from half 5 to 12am plus lol, and so did my mate and my bro, only crashed once but didnt bother me... some people always have problems
Alot of things are weird atm.
Such as some routing issue by some ISP.
