I'm sorry, this is not a stress test. This really IS a marketing event.
The server versions and architectures are the same as the ones overseas and people from the US have been playing on them since forever. Live version and server version are two entirely different things, considering in wow the server is probably already on the next version on the server for their expansion release.
It is the same server architecture as overseas, done the same way. They don't need to stress test because they've had servers for years, they know how many people they can handle. They also know how many open beta keys went out because they released them all.
This is not beta, this is not a stress test. This is a marketing event for a game that's already been released for over a year in the rest of the world. If it were a true open beta you'd never see it this early before release because you wouldn't have time to fix bugs/server in time for release without catastrophic problems. Please talk to developers and read books.
This open beta is nothing more than a display of NCSoft's incompetence. These kinds of results in an "open beta" (bs marketing term for free preview when it's this close to live) that is not even truly open is utterly ridiculous. I'm canceling my pre-order. Enjoy the inevitable mass-exodus cancellation woosh within the first month or two, a la AOC and Warhammer. Quite sad. I pity those of you that have experienced other hyped-up marketing masterpieces such as AOC and Warhammer and still have the blindness to give another company another undeserved $60. Good luck. I can think of a hundred better things to do with my money than give it to these modern-era art counterfeiters, because that's all they are, is a bunch of people taking rehashed unoriginal non-innovative crap, branding it as their own, and then not even having the decency to make an effort to assure that it all runs smoothly. All while asking us for money. No thanks.
Play a real mmo??? Darkfall...or if u dont like full loot go Fallen Earth?? I mean Aion?? ROFL wtf? CO??? wtf?? to play wow clones play the best..wow itself...
ROFL wtf? Dude, speak in a language we can understand. Whose side are you on anyway? You seem to hate everything.
I think he refers to the fact that it went up 38 mins late,or possibly the rubberbanding issues from having 50K + players all try to login at once,or it could be the 10 min server downtime to address server stability,or maybe he is complaining about the network servers "which NC does not own" that are imploding from massive congestion on route to the NC servers.
People make me laugh,OB was for 1.5 implementation if you thought for a min that it was going to be some smooth playing happy fun time,I feel sorry for ya.
I had an awesome connection, and was enjoying the game very much until the 10 min server down time. Unfortunately, since the downtime to "fix" server stability, I can no longer play, due to lag.
The game is fun though. I'm sure they'll get their kinks ironed out. I do have to say that I thought, since they already have massive numbers playing in Korea, they would handle the OB, no problem.
I'm just waiting for a F2P overhyped sandbox WoW clone with full PVP, epic raid bosses, instanced group content, and Crysis-quality graphics to come out. That, or something fun.

People like you, with no patience, should really stay out from betas in general. It is open beta, regardless how much you want it to be free preview and no doubt the main reason for it is to stress test it. There were some lag problems (for some people) during closed beta as well, but those were mainly sorted out.
This game has been runnign pretty stable for about a year in Korea. So in it's essense, your argument is nothing but a rant devoid of rational thought or logic.
Just a tip, which I know you won't take. Wait few weeks after a release before you even consider other games in the future.

So... it's been running pretty stable in Korea for a year, servicing chinese and korean gamers...which undoubtedly outnumber this little marketing release.....and it's all the same architecture but it's not working in north america. Okay. Gotcha. Logic.

Goes to show how very little you know about server hosting.

Korea has different servers this "free trial" you wanted is just in depth bug fixing and server stabilizing before going live.

You really are an ignorant moron. Open beta is GOING TO LAG they all do and shit i think they do it on purpose. They have to stress test the servers to see what htey can handle and work out any problems. OPEN Beta IS NOT A FREE preview im sick and tired of people like you who refuse to realize what the fuck an open beta is even done for.

The irony in this post is so amusing.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Seriously hope they make a lot of money off of people like you. Did you also believe Bush about weapons in Iraq?
Why did you change your post? Why not let everyone know about how you've been beta testing mmos for over 12 years and you work constantly with servers and ISPs?

What's the point? I work on major projects for colleges, too. But then what? They're all so stupid off the Kool Aid there is no point in explaining anything because they're going to play fanboi while daddy NCSoft pats their head. By all means I'm not saying the game is horrible, just that NCSoft is sucking and they're handling it wrong.
Not to mention the business practice of "If it's not broke don't fix it" comes into play with servers 99.999% of the time, so what would be the motivation to change it between the Korean and US servers? Come on.
Is it wrong that I enjoy all of these posts from people canceling their accounts? Every time, I just relish in the fact that this is exactly the type of person that I don't want to play with in game. People who whine and complain, people who feel the need to shit on anything others happen to like. Good riddance.

Personally, I think it will be resolved by launch but frankly, in my opinion, if they would have been more proactive in analyzing those that were already encountering problems in cb they could have avoided or at least minimized how the ob has gone for some so far.
I don't see how this is too late to stress test the server though. Other betas i've been in have done it around the same time frame and worked through issues when they found them.

Why is our holyness Darkfall brought up more in this argument than Aion, on the Aion fora?
Anyhow Aion is fine, not for PVPers in my opinion but its a polished PVE/rvr game i reckon
You do realize rvr = pvp yes?

EU has not had such network issue, NA thing but NCsoft are working on it
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
You do realize rvr = pvp yes?
no thats bullshit.
FFA pvp is PVP. RVR is RVR
UO, AC:DT, Shadowbane, the EQ Zek servers, DF MO EVE
are PVP games.
And my opinion will never change no matter who tells me differently - ever
Actually RvR is a copyrighted term, Mythic is the only ones who can use it. (Think about that when you see adds for the Best RvR)
Read the MMO lawsuits thing on this site its really funny
PvP is just the generic term.
not saying I fully disagree with you einstein, put its a PvP game for lack of a better phrase...
well faction based player versus player captures it, but thats too long and if you start saying FBPvP everyone will be like WTF LOL LERN 2 TYPE NOOB.
