i was like.. closest for the 1st question (-19.something, while others got -29 and less)... sorta kinda maybe...
and uh. 23.52 DB for the second question
and
Latsabb for the 3rd question
*crosses fingers*
EDIT: Oh wait itd be like 49.7 DB for the second question i *think* because you said on the return, the signals increase the DB instead of decrease. so itd be 7 (2 way splitters) plus 15 (3waysplitters) plus 3.2(those 100 feet) and plus 10.5 (8way splitter) plus the original 14
Hmpt...from the internet, it said 5db lost for each 100 feet of RG6..oh well
That is 100% correct. However, that is at a higher channel. You would lose around 4.9dB on a channel around channel 79. That is called Skin Effect. The higher the frequency of the signal, the faster it loses signal over a cable. So, on channel 2 it would be losing 1.6, and at channel 79, it would be losing 4.9. That is why if you have bad signal on your analog TV's, the lower channel look better than the higher up channels.

You are in the right mind set, but as I said in one of my other posts, the return at the pole is 38. So, going into the house it was 14 at the pole, and coming out of the house, it is 38. This is because it has to make it all the way back to the headend (where TV is delivered on cable) with that signal. The signal will degrade further, and the headend wants all signals to be exactly 0 when they arrive. :P Move on it quick folks, this is the question that is going to get you the key. Rememver to post all three answers in your final posts, or it wont count!
1. was kinda close on my attempt, was hard to get exact figures online though ><
Yeah, you and a few other people were at least in the ballpark, and were going with very good information. It is just hard to know what the loss on channel 2 is from people on the internet, lol. So, i am going to give you that one. Your number 2 is still wrong though.
1. -23.52 2. 38-23.52 = 14.48 for return 3. latsabb
Return works in the opposite. It is additive, and not subtractive. And, 23.52 is what your signal at the outlet was, not the attenuation of the line. :P
Also, just to explain where people were going wrong, you were use the -23.52 at an additive, and forgetting the 14 from the origonal signal. So it was 38+~37.
When would you ever need to know any of this? Daily as a cable installer. :P

I farted.
1. 8 db
2. 45 db in return
3. latsabb
Well, at least everyone can agree on number 3, lol. But no, you are incorrect on 1 and 2.
1. -23.52
2. 38-23.52 = 14.48 for return
3. latsabb

1. -23.52
2. 38+23.52 = 61.52

You are on the right track, but still incorrect.
37.52 for number 2?
-Core 3 "Its the Pwn!"
Nope, much too low.
is my number too high...
im trying to remember my electronics class...
38+14.48 = 52.48
2. 52.48??
well im thinking...
38+23.58+14 since pole has 14 already?
so bascially
2. 75.58?
http://hushwolf.mybrute.com
Nope, too low. 61 was too low as well.
1. -23.52
