Did the volunteer fanbois kill the MO community? I think they did. That or the game is so terrible that everyone moved on but the die hard fanbois and the people making fun of them.

can i have more backstory? kthanks
Imagine what happens when you give a bunch of die hard fanbois mod power with a forum rule that states "all mod actions are final and will never be reviewed or retracted" when the forum community is already unstable due to rediculous amounts of previous excessive moderation and miscommunication from the developer. All during the opening stages of a closed beta that has no beta forums.
Imagine the chaos. Now think about what would happen to the community following these events. That is MO right now. Fanbois spamming and mods deleting all posts and threads they feel like without reason, and banning people they feel shouldn't be in their special place.
The forums are moderated by voulenteers that are hand picked by the developers. They have been doing what fanboys who are given mod powers do: deleteing threads that break they claim break the ToS rule of trolling or NDA violations, but are infact are critisims of the game. I've had 2 post deleted today that weren't really nither, I simply pointed out that a mod shouldn't be telling others to leave the forums if they don't like the game.
I wouldn't say that relfects negitively against the company since it happens with all gaming forums.

I think you add in the 1 month " beta " that has literally gotten no where and the game has sort of fizzled out. Maybe after that miracle content patch gets in and they drop nda we will see something happen.
The p2p " beta " didn't help either.
Yes, they have recently hired some mods from the community and they are shocking tbh, going as far as telling people to "leave the forums" and deleting posts that bring up some constructive criticism of the game. Very sad state of affairs indeed.
I think the problem is that mods are NOT hand picked by the developers, instead they are picked by "lead mod" who thinks he is more important than the devs themselfs. He is picking like minded individuals, so you end up with some out of control forum nazis.
It was this sort of reaction by the Mods coupled by rabid fanboyism even if you just foolishly asked a question that was asked before, (like the past 3 months) and you got a beat down. (USE THE SEARCH) .
Bah, I decided just to stay away, wasn't worth the bother, so what I know about MO I learned here.

Indeed. I called that mod out on it and was quoted in a guy named popcicle sig

Let's not confuse "hired" with volunteer mods. They aren't being paid they are just volunteer fanboi's. They weren't hand picked either. They applied and got accepted because they are fanboi's and the lead mod doesn't understand the fanboi's are the trolls destroying the forums.
Now those same rediculous forum trolls are empowered as moderators and given full ban permission with absolutley no responsibility. The volunteer fanbois can ban anyone at any time for any reason and no review will ever be considered. The closest term I can come up with for this is Hardcore Stupidity.
The fanboi's make the claim that no one posts anymore because the forums are filled with trolls and something needed to be done. The real truth is no one sticks with the community there because the moderators are glorified fanboi's with ban sticks and anyone who dares to disagree with them is instantly banned and publicly ridiculed.
Mortal Online's community is DOA, and even the game wasn't a complete lemon, it wouldn't be able to make up for that. Community is a required element and Star Vault killed the one they had.
Volunteer mods are a double-edged sword. They are great to use, when handled and trained properly. You have to show them what to do, even if they have tons of experience using forums. Several guidelines need to be set, because volunteers usually have a lot less to lose than "paid" staff.
When the game isn't even out yet, the worst that can happen is that they are denied (well their volunteer account) access to beta. That doesn't mean that they can't be stopped by making other accounts to get in.
I'm not saying that this happened at MO as I never really concentrated on their community of forums, but I can honestly say that if allowed to run rampant volunteer mods can help destroy the very thing you are trying to build. I also want to stress the fact that volunteer mods can be very helpful, especially if used properly. It isn't necessarily a bad thing to have volunteers helping.

Volunteer moderators are good for fan sites, but are a big mistake when it comes to a commercial business.
Moderators on official forums should be paid professionals, not fanboish kiddies who mostly lack the maturity to moderate anything. Not to mention that it creates the imbalance of giving some people who are finally just players too more powers than the average player, which can easily lead to abuses.

yes indeed. Mods chosen from the community are very biased as you mentioned. For example, if you go to some school and make a random boy the head of school, guess what will happen? His friends and people he likes will get away with murder, where as people he doesnt personally like will permanently sit in detention. This is what I see at MO forums right now.
Dont get me wrong, I am not here because I am bitter for being banned or anything, I havent posted there since early August, I just lurk these days, but I call out situations when individuals abuse their modding privileges when I see them.
