I think the OB was open to all users. Head to fileplanet or something and check it out on your own. it's the only way you'll really know. Because this site is rabid for this game. Most people here have Aion goggles! kidding....
I've played almost every MMO to come out since UO. I loved UO, DAoC, CoX and EQ the most. I thought WoW was a decent game. In each one of them I gave myself time to learn if I like it or not. I normally try to make it to at least level 15-20. I even did this for games I wasn't too fond of like Vanguard, Horizons etc. When it came to Aion I just couldn't do it. I get to level 7-8 and I wanted to gouge my eyes out. In fairness I didn't level very high. But that is sort of my point. Even stinkers, I'd make myself do it and have a decent time while it lasted. Aion couldn't even convince me to do even that.
But that's not to say it's a bad game. It just wasn't fun to me. I will always say Aion has some of the best music you can hear in a game though. The music was fantastic. That's why I say try it. Nobody really knows if you will like it or not. Reading your posts, I'd almost say not. But you should still try it out.
levels 7-8 are tough thats when the level curve starts to rise a little, they don't go near as fast as the first 6, but its till not bad like you explained it, at least not for me. Its still typical MMO, do quest, get loot, nothing too good loot wise, cause your still in the newbie zone.
just remember if you get the game, the acension quest takes you through the whole level. very VERY quickly so 9-10 is a snap, then you can get into the more open part of the game
The only thing that can prevent me from buying this game is Gameguard.OP,like others had said you better try the game for yourself and make your opinion.
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
The answer is simple. Apart from the fact is has "autofollow" in PvP which makes it a joke as a valid PvP game. Here is an example of a typical Aion Boss in a PVE Dungeon: NO responsive reaction of any boss in Aion/ The video lasts ... 1.5 minutes with the boss at LESS than 5% btw. Healer, tank, dps don't move an inch, while the boss doesn't move an inch either, nor does he do any reactive things. http://www.xfire.com/video/1038cd/ and this goes on for 20 minutes (at least). YAwn indeed. even COMPARING these fights to Raids in WOW is ... well you choose. Typical Korean style PVE. "Watch out for the moving fire and holes" won't be heard in YAwn I guess.
I cannot agree with you on the autofollow makes it a joke game some of the best PVP games I have played had auto follow.
Daoc had it with stick and Autoface and it worked great kept the bunny hopping latency exploits down and EVE same way.
Look Zorn I know you are down with WOW and thats cool. But don't call something a joke just because its not WOW.
Look the game is making a fool out of itself: Just see the video above and tell me if that challenges the current state of the PVE raids ? And it is the SAME thing of ALL those Korean games. Dull, VERY dull PVE bosses.
NO reactive responses whatsoever. A raid/dungeon boss and nobody moves an inch.
The same applies for PvP: Positioning is one of the KEY features of present day PvP games. If you can't position yourself against the enemy, you are not talking state of the art PvP mechanics.
Jumping over and behind a target negates dodge and parry advantages in that other game, distancing you from the others is one of the KEY features in PvP.
Auto-following is in Aion and it simply is a gamebreaker for serious PvP players.
Period.
{mod edit}.Posting an open world level 28 Raid boss to make a point? And one video where the group is terrible? I took that crab down within 6 minutes in Korean's release.
Try killing the final boss in draupnir, try completing dark poeta in S mode, try Lord Ramnark, then come back at me and tell me Aion bosses dont have reactive changes and difficulty overaly, Dark Poeta in S mode is lasting more than WOTLK content for Koreans, Wow pve is dumbed down, Aion's isnt.
Autofollow isnt autochasing, you'll keep following the enemy's footsteps, which, unless you have better speed, you'll never catch that way. Taking shortcuts by moving your char yourself is the only way to go in AIon, autofollow is only useful for static enemies, in which case it doesnt make a difference at all.
I just leveled 10.. game looks good. Plays good (still not as smooth in the controls and world interaction as WOW), combat as a warrior looks pretty good, nothing special so far but it's ok. All girls look like grey porcelaine dolls (at least in the "light" side) that's a bit boring. And there are *a lot* of them. And not by far as good-looking as in the pictures you can see in the net. For instance the logo in this page.
Bad things: it's easier than WOW (so far). You not only have a GPS in the minimap, you have even a frigging radar telling you where the mobs are and what kind (aggro or not aggro). There are commands to help you locate almost everything (i know wow has questhelper mod). And forget about being too far, it automatically makes you walk to the mob till you are in range.
Oh and no swimming, all water areas are ankle-deep so no chance in hell to drown or even swimm. Jumping is not too well animated.
I would say in general and so far feels like WOW with another skin. And with 1 minute of wing flight. Maybe that's interesting, haven't experienced it yet. Will have to see.

Good read. I enjoyed his part on PvP and talking about Tara in Anarchy Online it was very fun You can tell WOW is not his only MMORPG or PVP experience.
I've come along way tried a lot but no come really satisfied me. Tried Aion without optimism but personally I have a blast. I like the fact that you don't have to the questing stuff and death finally means something again. Sure its all personal opinion but the game runs smooth, the gfx are nice maybe not as good as AoC but really nice.
If the game has some nice pve longtime motivation I'm definately sticking around with it for some time.
my advice: try it out and decide by your own
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
