Dunno. What is it about CO that didn't work for you?

I've been playing CoH/CoV for years. I haven't heard anything about Champions that has made me want to jump ship, so anything I can give you by way of comparison will be based on what I've read about CO only.

Combat in CoH might be a little slower, but there is a lot more in the way of content. What else would you like to know?

  • davidpham123davidpham123 Member UncommonPosts: 18

CO didn't work out for me because to me it seem pretty easy, and teaming was very quick, for example i would team up with people for a kill or a quest they also need to finish. But right after they finish they would leave right away, to me i would want to team up for a long time and not just for 5 mins. CO felt like a console game to me and i don't like console games :P. So my question is do you team up a lot in CoX?

  • 4Renziks4Renziks Member UncommonPosts: 390

CoX is all team based mainly, it is mission based or AE ( i hated AE) which is player generated mission, but most people just put a bunch of hard lvl mobs in there and teams would go in there and you get lvl 20 in 15mins, top lvl in maybe 8hrs. ...I didnt buy CO because it was the single most solo based game i ever wittness...get CoX if you like to play with other players in your MMO.

    playing: Dragon Age
    Waiting: for FF14, Mass Effect
    Want to try: Fallen Earth

    what sever would you recommend?

  • AcidonAcidon Member UncommonPosts: 796

From the sounds of it, I agree that CoX might be right up your alley.  Personally, after playing CO closed and open beta, I much prefer good ol' CoX (which, actually, i was in the beta of way back when).

I let my CoX sub lapse, but it had nothing to do with how I felt about the game.  I would return in a heartbeat if I had the time for everything (and I will sometime soon).

CoX is an amazing game imho.  If you enjoy teaming, you will no doubt find a regular team in that game (if that's your bag).

As far as Server choice, I really don't think it matters.  During my last stint, I was playing Liberty for CoV and Champion for CoH and both in-server communities rocked.  But seriously, I have never been on a server I didn't like.

When you log in the servers are sorted by traffic, only the top one being the last server you were on regardless of its traffic.  If you're really into teaming I imagine you'll want one of the higher trafficked servers during your game-time window.  Also, high traffice does not equal 'lag', so don't worry about that.  They are incredibly stable.

Anyway, I hope something in this post helped you out.  I mainly piped in because I miss the game.  CO was definately some time I will never get back.  But that's the risk we take in this world. :)

PS - It's also worth noting, for anyone else that browses this thread that may pefer solo play, that CoX is extremely well designed to be a solo type game as well.  It's actually pretty amazing how they have accomplished both ends of the spectrum.

I didn't want my post to sound like Grouping/Teaming was the only option for CoX.  Quite the contrary.

Best server, at least to me, is Virtue. It's a great server with Role players and non role players who get along great. That is the server I recommend.

virtue is good the unofical rp server .i play it an protector.both seems at peek hours i get invites to teams fairly regular.tho protector has a lower pop over all id say its still a fun server .

check the server forums on the ofical site.find the chat channels that would suit your play style .that makes a big difrence in the game as well.as chat channels become guilds unto them selves.

im on the justice server and at times can seem dead but at other times getting a team can be easy i like the sidekick system that keeps all members of the team on equal footing so noone is getting shafted for being lower lvl in fact many high lvl teams invite me to join regularly

I just started up with a friend of mine.  I played for a few months after it originally released and he played for a year or so before lettings his account lapse.

We restarted on guardian just because he has some friends that still play there.  Its not like other MMOs where your thrown a bunch of missions/quests that you grind out.  You have no more than 3 missions to work on but it seems like it encourages the opposite in that you find a group and you play with that group for your play session - helping each other complete missions.

The christmas related mission was also good fun and there are a lot of 'mini games' that they've added over the years that have helped mitigate the fact that the game was originally shallow feeling (only thing to do was level up and do missions).  It seems Paragon is focusing on features and aspects they think their customers would want rather than bloating the game with "contemporary MMO conventions" that may or may not fit within the scope of the game.  From what I've read, it seems like missteps by the devs have been made in the past, but no dev is always spot on.

For example, the upcoming Going Rogue expansion seems to be bridging CoH and CoV.  They have always felt separate because the pvp aspects that were intended to bridge them never really took off with the player base.  This will just add a new element of depth in addition to new content and tasty graphic upgrades in the process.

Unfortunately, CO felt like a remix of CoH and the latest crop of MMOs and not necessarily the best bits of either minus the fun character creator (even though my impression is that COs felt more restricting than CoXs).

About the only thing CO has that CoX doesn't is the Nemesis system.  The travel powers were somewhat improved.  That's about it.  I wouldn't even say the gfx are much better, if at all.  Animations are a good bit better, though.

CoX is worth trying, unless you despise instances, which is where you'll spend most of your time.  But its scalable gameplay, tons of content, and team friendly features make for a fun game.  I rarely miss a free weekend.

Also, hit up the forums in CoX. You can start a forum account even if you're on a trial account, there's a wealth of information there, and a great community. Any problems, head to Player Questions or the Tech forums.

As for servers, Freedom, Virtue, and Justice are the most active servers, in that order.

    • Freedom - Being the most active also houses (I believe) the highest PvP community.
    • Virtue - Unofficial RP server (Depending on activity, will often swap top-slot with Freedom.)
    • Justice - Unofficial 'Across the pond' server, lots of Aussies and Kiwi's gravitate to Justice.
    • Hint: The server list order has the last logged in server in the top-slot, then goes in order from least active, to most active. So you will see Freedom and Virtue at the bottom of the list.

The first thing they will tell you is that it's not about the end-game, or max level, it's about the journey there.

There is no 'Best AT', there are however AT's that will fit your play style and will be the best for you.

    Above all else, Have fun!

When it comes down to it, that's all that really matters. I've been playing for a little over two years and still log on almost nightly. Who am I kidding, I do play nightly. :)

Does this mean little to no end game? If it does, I'd like to know as I was going to subscribe. I like throwing fireballs but if I reached max and they go, "Well done (:" And I'm like, now what? Only to be told the journey was the fun, then yeah I think it'd be abit of a let down. Surely theres more.

There is little endgame in CoX, it is mostly about the journey.  There's a few raids, Hamidon, Mother Ship, and Recluse's Victory, some taskforces, and completing your build to hunt Arch Villains as well as Mission Architect stuff.  Allegedly the expansion is supposed to focus on adding true endgame elements as well but you'd have to wait for word on that.

CoX is a different beast from most mmos with its focus on instances, 3dimensional combat, the synergies it achieves in team combat, and the diversity of power combinations and customization of builds.  If you're all about grinding for some duration before playing a game instead of actually playing it, CoX probably isn't for you.  The trial is free though....

The endgame has always been to make alternate characters. And I've never found a single other game that offers as much play diversity from one character to the next. (I tried WoW after CoH and was struck by how same-y it was. "So everyone gets a melee weapon, a ranged attack, and armor? Yawn.")

Also it's about a third as long to reach 50 as it used to be, so the "all that commitment to my one character" argument is weaker than ever.

[b]That said[b], they know the lack of an endgame is sorely hurting. The Going Rogue expansion (due out around June I think) is supposed to be directly focused on that. In fact, the lead designer (Matt Miller) chose to step down from running the whole company because he wanted to just focus on design, and specifically on designing the endgame system.

How it will play, I don't know. But that's how it stands. CoH was never intended to be a "one and only character" game, and doesn't have much of an endgame at the moment, but something big is coming soon.

Although I agree with you, Architect does give you a similar path to the nemesis system as you design your foe and can add it in missions to fight against, you can also make him/her evolve as you would. It may not be as defining as CO but its close enough
