6 day review

This is a continuation of my 2-day review which was posted here www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/250804.  I have gone from 14 to 22.  I'll break this down into level ranges...

14-17:  This was a mixture of soloing with some grouping.  Plenty of quests, fun places to see... Was good questing.

18-19:  I'll call these the "Black Rock" levels.  Around this time you run out of solo quests to do and have several quests in the Black Rock Outpost area.  This is an open world area full of elites, plus bosses scattered around.  At lvl 18-19 the XP here is good, and many of the quests give good XP too.  I ran through the area with at least 4 groups or so.  Took out a lot of the bosses.  It was quite fun because it was decently challenging.  2 mob pulls could be trouble.  3 mob pulls you had to plan out what you would do or else you would probably wipe.  The area reminded me of Dol Dinen in Lotro, except with more bosses and interesting loot.  I mentioned I ran through the area about 4 times and that's because it takes a few times to get all the quests done.  Also, there is nothing else to do at this level range.  I really didn't have any other quests to do.  Luckily it's easy to find a Black Rock group because everyone else is loooking for a group too.

20-22:  This is where things get.... Grindy.... I know I mentioned in my previous review that around lvl 14 it felt grindy.  But it's really nothing compared to what we have now.  Right off the bat when you enter the lvl 20 area you are introduced to repeatable quests...  There are some other quests to do, and some give decent XP.  But shockingly, there just aren't many quests to do... To get to lvl 22 I had to do at least half a dozen repeatable quests.  It's basically all soloing too...  There are some gathering quests that I can't do because my gathering skill isn't high enough, but if you look at the quest reward they often give only 2 or 3 mob kills worth of XP.  Some of the repeatables only give a few kills worth of XP as well, so basically they are asking you to grind mobs with little reward.

PvP/Rifts:  Now at lvl 20 you are in areas where rifts open up and you can travel to enemy lands and they can travel to yours.  A quest took me to enemy territory and I tried to gank a SM but was unsuccessful.  Also ran into a couple groups of Elyos and they said hi by destroying me. I've never actually seen a rift, but I guess they spawn randomly at certain points.  I really want to do more PvP, and I wish the Rifts would open up more often.  I have something like 1 kill (I sneezed on an enemy, somebody must have eventually killed him) and 4 deaths.

Combat:  At lvl 21 I realized I could press 3 buttons to activate 5 skills to do maximum DPS (2 skills were part of a chain and you can use the same button twice).  This coupled with the intense grinding depressed me.  However at lvl 22 I've been given a new attack, and a couple defensive skills which means I am doing a little bit more thinking, not just pressing 3 buttons.  Seeing what other skills I have coming keeps me going.

Final Thoughts:  Unlike other games where you are abondoning quests because there are too many, you are wishing there were more quests in Aion...  I'm determined to get to 25 and see the Abyss..  But the lack of quests has been saddening.

Sounds like you're missing some areas.  I have yet to ever run out of any quests/areas to play in.

I don't have access to the game at the moment, but I know there are new areas for the early 20's.  (I played in CB and got a character to the late 20's).

Your best bet is to visit the flight/transport NPC's and look for new areas that are rather cheap to travel to.  That will probably be the early 20's area.  (I think I had a quest that introduced me to that area).

Maybe someone who's a little more familiar with the map can give you the name(s).

    Good luck!

Yep, agree with this. You are missing quests somewhere along the line.

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.

Hmm well there's Morheim and then there's the island area (starts with a B)....  In both cases there were quests but I had to do those repeatables as well.   You're saying you didn't need to do those repeatables?  Afaik there are no quests worth doing in Altgard at lvl 20+, and if there is a 3rd area it's news to me.

Isn't it so much fun? lol. Nothing better than a good gank here and there.

I've never ran out of quests either. At the most, you may have to do some of the repeatables (once) but never had to do them multiple times (sometimes i did do that just for the hell of it though). The thing about after 20, though, is the quests are constantly putting you up against monsters that are 3-4 lvls above you. If you aren't comfortable enough with your class to deal w/ that lvl gap, then you may need to pad your exp w/ some of the 20+ gathering quests.
