Hi there, I've just bought a 24 inch 1080p monitor (hasen't arrived yet) and i am looking for a resonable priced card to run it. I'm currently running an 8800gt and i don't hink it will be up to the job. Any suggestions?

I'd probably go with a 4870 1gb, I think they run 120 - 140 at newegg.com. Best bang for your buck IMO. 4890 is better, but costs more, the 4850 is a little cheaper but not cheap enough to justify buying it over the 4870.
Waiting for the next ATI or for that matter Nvidia is probably the best. The 8800 GT can well run the new screen too.
My suggestion is waiting until both ATI and NVidia released their new cards (should be late autumn) and then look on the benchmark tests on how well they are doing. Otherwise I think the OP should look on the benchmark test I linked to and buy the card that did best in the right priceclass but waiting a little while is best.
The 8800 GT card is still better than many of the low price cards right now but and the next gen is just right around the corner.
Anyways whatever brand you buy, avoid all low budget cards like you did last time. That is why the card hold up so well and still can run your new screen even though it is aging fast now.
Buying a divx 10 card when the 11 cards is so close doesn't make any sense, and also will the old cards drop in price when the new comes out.

Get a card with a lot of video RAM. I suggest at least 1GB to be safe.

Buying a ATI card the week before the next gen come is not so smart.
