IMO its enough for a cap in Darkfall.

the title is a bit misleading, that is my fault.  Were talking about a skill cap in terms of what UO had where you have a limited number of points to divide between skills.

UO had a skill soft cap but it also had the ability to lock, raise and delevel any skill you wanted to at any time with a little bit of training.

Does DF have that option? I don't remember seeing a skill stop or delevel option for my character.

people talk about balance but in UO i could alter my build at anytime and be a totally different character with a bit of work. So in reality there was no hard cap in UO either.

Of course my time in DF has been limited and I havent fully played UO since 2002 so things may have changed but I believe thats the way things were when i was playing them (im getting old).

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

The UO raise, stop, delevel system is an other promise feature that tasos mentioned that will be in DF. So i believe he will add it one day with the cap feature.

The UO system is basically the only system I can see working with this game.  It pleases both sides, the ones who don't want a cap and those who do.

    Why?

You can still cap all skills, just not at the same time.  Thus it works for the one character only server model.

Likewise, they'd have to increase skill gains so people can easily switch (3 or 4 days) to a different build if they end up finding out after water magic is maxed they like earth magic better.

The Darkfall community is one of the dumbest communities ever.  They don't understand that these people complaining, albeit we're bitching and complaining...  are their food for loot, and this game's future for money.  Instead these retards tell people, "This isn't your game go play elsewhere".  Wow, really?  You just going to tell everyone that that disagrees with you? Then guess what your dream Darkfall, will die cause you're a retard for pushing everyone that doesn't agree with you away from this game.

If it bothers you so much t oread these posts then stop reading them, but the main point of all the complaints about the game is that people actually DO LIKE THE GAME, there's just something holding them back.  It's up to the DEVS not YOU to decide what elements of their complaint they take into consideration.  Your arguement is a moot point, and to sit here and tell people to quit playing is being a really big moron.

In the end the dev's are going to look at player retention, and then they're going to look to the forums as to why they're losing so many players and THEN they're going to fix the problems that made those players quit.  Players = money, not fanboys.

The dev's have already spoken.  Skill cap is coming in October, we just don't know in what shape.  Good day sir.

you don't seem to realize that confining players to one role, melee, archery or magic greatly limits their overall combat potential, especially since you are only allowed one character per server.  there are plenty of other paper, rock, scissors game out there where you will die based on what class you are rather than based on player skill, stop trying to make Darkfall one of them.  I want an equal chance to beat my opponent if I have put forth the effort to train my character up, an even playing field where everyone has access to the same abilities is as well balanced as any game can get.

Name one game where everyone has the same abilities and it works and is successful.

Even FPS games no one has the same skills/abilities.  In Call of duty there's tons of guns to choose from.  Tons of perks to choose from.  Tons of grenades, and even vehicles to drive...

In fighting games like Soul Calibur everyone is different, yet no one has an "advantage" if it's balanced.  So it's more about balancing than it is about different character classes.

Besides, you can switch your skills anytime.  They're not going to make you permanently be an archer, warrior, etc...  It'll be like UO.
