Weird Article about EQ 2, SOE, and IGN Relationship

It's a...weird...read, but something I personally thought at least about IGN the most after reading some reviews there.  But still, insider information on back door dealings.  Conspiracy!

But I'm if that's true, SOE isn't the only company that does it.

Where is the fear in being removed from a beta program you don't agree with? Several people agreed with the writer yet no one wanted to be removed from the beta.

If I personally was in a program that I was not happy with....I would be glad to be removed/leave. Good read though.

Interesting read indeed

It is really not suprising to me at all though.  Many of these especially larger websites trade favors for exclusive information.  I remember early on that IGN got a bunch of special exclusive videos, and the staff was on the EQ2 official boards posting about it and basically advertising.  So I go to the IGN site and find out that you have to be an "insider" to see the videos.  IGN was using the official EQ2 boards to advertise for fee based content.  At the time I was very ticked - I started a thread on the subject that quickly became a controversy... in no time the EQ2 mods had deleted the thread and I received not so nice PMs from the EQ2 mods and from Deathstriker.

But to think this type of thing only happens with IGN is pretty naive.  Most of the gaming sites, including this one derive the majority of their revenue from the gaming companies who advertise on thier site.  Its an inherit conflict of interest.

I agree, but this article just talked about IGN and SOE, so didn't mention anyone else.

So who do you guys think are the most "unbiased and unpaid" reviewers out there?

Include magazines and websites.

PC Gamer seems unbiased.. or at least only very slightly biased if at all. They seem to rate games simply on their worth as games.
