Alot of players will start with ranger. As they play through and find out how difficult the class is to play and level they will reroll.
You may be right, the ranger is the more difficult class of all possible choices. I liked its difficulty personaly, It reminded me of a mix between a wow hunter and a mage without a pet. Ofcourse I know they have traps as well, I am not a fan that their traps costs reagents though, its one of my gripes with the game. I also wished they would remove the requirement of arrows, or at least basic arrows.
yeah but the reason i THINK he's talking about it they are horrible for the first 6 lvl then just suck till 22 THEN they're alot of fun. will be tough to stick to a class that only has 2 abilities for 6 lvls then you have like 3 for 6 more lvls. i don't count the traps because of the cooldown and at those lvls cost can add up for those seeds. if you get a static group for lvling with friends it could be more toleratable, solo it sux, made it to 25 on the china with my elyos ranger. once you get retreating slash they have alot of veriety and are fun to play.
I'll be rolling Spiritmaster and Assassin. Just like everyone else, I was suprised at the low numbers people voting for Assassin .. especially considering the over abundance of them in OBT, at least on my server.
I know that Spiritmaster may be a bit broken in some ways, but I'll still be playing one. Most of the complaints about SM's are well know issues by NC, and I'm sure they will be fixing them in the future. Especially knowing how much us Americans complain...lol.
During OBT I played a Cleric exclusively, but if that's going to be one of (if not THE) most popular class choice, I'll go with something else. I'll never be able to keep up with the Jones's in that situation . . I can't play this game like it's a job, like many certainly will.
I'm central time, so I'll be going with an Eastern time server. Hope my choice turns out to be hi-pop. See you all soon!

Any rate, I'm amazed that assassin doesn't top this list with ease. I might end up changing to sin if there's a serious lack of them in-game.
Probably because it's not easy at the earlier lvls and that to top dmg when killing mobs, ecc you have a lot of movement to do, a thing that I found better then in other mmos.
Gladiator. i generally play melee DPS in most of my MMOs. There's just something magical about when you charge someone screaming "GO FOR THE KNEES!"

Thanks for everyone who is posting your thoughts on the poll/classes. Its too bad not alot of people are checking out the SM, its a fun class from what ive seen. Even if dots arent stackable now, im sure it will be looked into later. Even if dots arent there SM's still have DD spells they can utilize...lets also not forget the pet buff DP spell? Their pets become = in power to an elite mob. Ofcourse this is for a limited time...but for that time the DPS just explodes. It will be interesting to see how the SM pans out end game. I think they will be more used in PVP then PVE.

TBH, the more reading I do, I'm amazed that more people aren't jumping on SMs. They're the ultimate solo class, and while they'll have limited grouping chances, I've read their PVP viability is quite good, not to mention the predictions from many that the first 50 will be an SM.
Personally, the more I look into it, and the more I read, it really almost seems like there will indeed be an overabundance of clerics and chanters....at least to start. I still can't decide between just sticking to it, and watch as they thin out through the levels for all the priests' various flaws, mostly because the potential would still be there to go for a different role, and possibly have actual healers around for backup. Bah.

I'm so torn between Sorc or SM. The thing about SM is that I want my pet to stay by my side when flying, but on the other hand my pet can grab and smash you to the ground. Sorc - I love the damage, but very squishy. Decisions Decisions....
mutters, don't even include the EU servers... -mutters-
yanks
still voted does that mean i ruined the poll :-o

This isnt specific to NA servers, you can post and vote in general. This was just to get an idea of where everyone was right before launch. Im gathering most people that voted for a specific class are still on the fence. Im finding it very difficult to choose out of the 8 possible classes. They are very diverse in what they can do end game, and the stigma abilities are making it even harder to choose.
I played an Assassin in beta because I always love stealth types but I think if I purchase Aion anytime soon I'll be rolling a Chanter due to the fact that it reminds me of a Paladin, my only level 80 in WoW. Plus I have a thing for healing. But I have a question; to anyone who played a high level Chanter, can they be considered a main healer? Would I be able to handle a group in a dungeon, etc.? Please let me know, that's a huge part of my decision.
Yes and No. They can heal fine to a certain point. Chanters don't have group heal, when a group decide to take a dungeon boss (happen almost in every group) or fight 2/3 mobs it will be stressful for a chanter not beeing able to heal all who is taking damage.
I found dungeos are designed so that you have to be on your toes all the time with ads/spawns/links/patrols, some mobs even run away and cry for help. In those situation it will be troublesome.
For dungeon, I would prefer a cleric to be main healer while chanter off heal when we get ads. Less chance of seeing death maybe.
I played a spiritmaster and chanter in betas and liked them both but would like to try a ranger too. Not sure what the first one will be but I voted chanter. I'm a very slow leveler so it won't matter if there are a million chanters... they might all re-roll by the time I get to the Abyss.
i'm going to be rolling as SM. when people start to realize how useless their chars are when they are getting ganked by an SM they will start rerolling. mark my words.

Hmm. I wonder if by taking this poll, though, it will have a reverse effect. Like, I'm already thinking, "Well, maybe I won't go with that class if so many people are going with it..."
So I wonder if by doing this, the classes might be more evened out at launch, or the the poll might even be inverted!

Your looking at a cpl hundred votes. This will result in a couple of people per server that voted here. The results of this poll will have no effect on the selection in game. In addition the poll is slightly inaccurate as its only polling MMORPG.com viewers and forum goers. MMORPG.com does not cater to the entire MMO population, some people like it, some people do not, the types of people who do like it may be more inclined to play certain classes. All in all, I'm quite happy at how balanced the classes came out, and hope with larger and more diverse #s in game, they all come out pretty balanced.
However, note that groups are of 6, and there are 8 classes. For a group to have a proper healer, there needs to be a higher % of clerics in the game then the other classes. I think they balanced this sort of by making the clerics a chain wearing nuker/caster which will make them more popular, hopefully they remember to heal you while stealing your kills! Brings back DAoC memories of smite clerics. Sure albion had the most healers on the battle field, to bad all but a couple thought they were wizards with shields.

Because SM is a broken class. Dots arent stack so if there are 2 SM in a party or raid 1 SM cant dps lol

I am rolling a chanter because my daughter is rolling a glad.
and seems we might have a nice duo, leveling will be fun

I'm torn between Gladiator and Sorcerer. Played tanks and healers all the time in the past mmos, want to something a little different =P.
I've always been a fan of greatswords so I'm leaning towards Gladiator
