While i plan to have a Spirit Master as my main as well. There are alot of other issues the Spirit Master will possess other than the grounded spirit syndrome..
Another HUGE problem with a spirit master is that in PVE situations including Raids only one is really needed. As a large portion of our damage comes from our DoTs which are not stackable at all. In RVR this can also tend to wasting of mana as you attempt to Dot your target to find out he has already been Dotted by another SM before you..
Spirit Masters are the least played class for a reason. I plan to play one becuase I have always wanted a pet class in every game I have played.. This just happens to be the one I plan to roll one in as my main.
In 1v1 at higher levels they are insane. But they do have their disadvantages. If they dont fix the non flyable pet issue soon expect to never want to go into the abyss much at higher levels. Imagine 1/2 of your character being useless.. Its like a Templar not being allowed to wear their armor in the flying areas.
Just keep in mind that your damage will be horrible, because DoT's do not stack (meaning no incentive for more than one Spiritmaster in raid setting) and neither pet's nor DoT's improve with gear.
By horrible I mean as bad as a cleric's...
A 50 Korean SM made a great post on Aionsource (I can't find it at the moment) that described SM's as a "control class": Your essential role is to shutdown the vital parts of the enemy with your CC that comes in the form of fear.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

While the gear scaling is definitely an issue, SM damage is far from horrible. SMs have excellent DPS, provided they aren't competing with other SMs for damage. They are basically this games warlocks, great CC, and very scary damage if given enough time to build up their DoTs.
Good news for people who were rolling Spirit Master anyway, or who were planning to, but were turned off by the pet issues.
Just keep in mind this just appeared on the Korean Test servers. It could be weeks before it goes live there and more weeks until it would go live here. Hopefully it will be fairly quick, but it could easily be two or three months before this hits the US servers.

Just curious, if anyone knows or not, but how do the SMs compare to DAoC chanters? I'm looking for a class that can more than hold thier own in the PvE side of the house to feed/farm for my main PvP character. Can an SM be used similar to a chanter in elite/boss farming?

Not according to the Koreans who have been playing this game at lvl 50 for nearly a year. BEFORE 50, however, SM's can still do decent damage compared to other classes; I'd almost say that they would out-dps sorcs if both were naked.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
Actually Sorcs not only do more DPS but also have more Crowd Control.
For those that might have played EQ1 I will use this as a reference.
Both Caster classes in Aion would be hybrids of casters from EQ1.
Spirit Master would be the hybrid between a necro and a magician with having fear kiting available and different types of elemental based pets. They also have a cold based snare attack which makes them excellent at the fear kiting. aspect.
Sorcerors would be the cross between a EQ1 wizard for nukes and Enchanter for crowd control.
The only benifit that Spirit Masters gain is that attacks will not break fear. Where as a Sorcerors mezz effects will be broken if the targets are damaged. But they have AOE mezzes available.
With that being said The spirit master is the better of the 2 at soloing (however this is not a solo based game) Due to them having a pet they can handle aggro much better than a Sorc can. However with the limitations of non stacking dots only one will ever really be all that helpful. Granted pets if people know how to use them can always be a very resourceful tool.
Sorcerors though have MASSIVE burst damage or great crowd control. But when they run out of mana a Spirit Master can still fall back on their pets and still be useful.
IF they are truly fixing the ability of non flying pets... It will greatly enhance the Spirit Master class.

Spiritmasters were never useless, but in abyss it was a little problem. Now they will be a big threat.

Well now, this makes me completly reassess my class choice.
According to a thread translating the KR test server, pets will have flight now.

I played SM in OB and loved it. Day before end of Beta I looted a Wind Spirit, pissed me off I didn't get to keep it xD.
